Number 1823 in the Carpenter Family in America by Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.
Family on page 308 & 309.  He was baptised by Rev. C. W. Baird of Rye.
He removed with his father to Newwark, NJ in 1888 and is engaged at his chosen
profession, surveying.  On September 29, 1897, he was married. Mr. Carpenter
provided material aid in the book "Carpenter Family in America" by Daniel H.
Carpenter.

James Allen Carpenter married Louette "Louie" Boone on December 20, 1846 in Greene County, Indiana. He was a farmer, also living in Illinois where all, but one, of his children were born. He moved to Webster County, Missouri around 1868. Together, James and Louie had the following children:

Mrs. Elma C. Ripple, 76, wife of Harold S. Ripple, 10201 Grosvenor Place, Rockville, Md., died at 6 a.m. Thursday in the George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D. C.  She had been in failing health since being admitted to the hospital Jan. 8.

She was born in Marshfield, Mo., on March 18, 1902, daughter of the late James and Mary Jane (Armstrong) Carpenter.  Her early life was lived in Missouri, and she had made her home in the Washington area since 1929.

She and Mr. Ripple were married in January 1935 and had lived in Rockville for the past 14 years.

Mrs. Ripple was employed by the federal government for more than 30 years.  Prior to her retirement, she  worked in the U. S. Department of Agriculture and was secretary to Ezra Taft Benson, former secretary of agriculture.

In addition to her husband, a native of Waynesboro, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ruby Jersey, Richmond, Calif.

Bio:
Harold S. Ripple, 76, of 10201 Grosvenor Place, Rockville, Md., a native of Waynesboro, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, in the George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was critically since being admitted to the hospital last Tuesday.

He was born in Waynesboro, July 6, 1907, son of the late William and Louise (Sachs) Ripple.  He attended the local schools and was a graduate of the Waynesboro Business College.  As a young man he was employed in the office at Frick Co. until moving to Washington in the early 1930's, when he was employed by the Federal Government.

He later received his degree in law from the National University Law School and was admitted to the D. C. Bar.

During World War II, he served with the U. S. Navy.

Prior to his retirement in 1965, he was last employed as an attorney by the Veteran's Administration.

His wife, Mrs. Elma (Carpenter) Ripple, died in February, 1979.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of George Washington Chapter No. 487, Knights of Pythias.

He was the last of his immediate family and is survived only by several cousins.
