Clair Henry Davis Clair H. Davis, 76, died Tuesday, 6 Jan. 1981 at the Community Hospital, McCook. He was born May 6, 1904 at Hildreth to the late Oscar and Emma Davis. He came with his parents to Wauneta where he grew up. He was married Sept. 10, 1960 at Colby, Kan. to Ethel Bacon, and had made his home in Culbertson since.
Survivors are his widow, Ethel; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Esta) Richards of Dumas, Texas; three step-daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Donna) Gutherie of Indianola, Mrs. Alvin (Belva) Snyder of Loveland, CO, and Mrs. Dave (Mavis) Bowman of Billings, Mont.; two step-sons, Gary Bacon of Los Angeles, and Larry Bacon of St. John, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one brother, Cletis Davis of Silver Spring, MD.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the United Methodist Church, Culbertson, with the Rev. Richard Atherton officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta. [McCook Daily Gazette, Wed 7 Jan 1981]

Frances Fauniel Ryan

After her divorce from Clair, Fauniel began teaching school. She eventually became a principal in Sidney NE, then moved to Ft. Morgan CO where she was "the most popular" second grade teacher for years. She loved her life nad her friends, but the apple of her eye was her granddaughter, Sheri.

OBIT:
Ethel Ellen Davis Ethel Ellen Davis, 87 died Sunday, January 23, 2000 at community Hospital of McCook. She was born January 8, 1913, at Dawson, to Edward and Hattie (Rose) Stevenson.
She was married to Clair "Shorty" Davis. They lived in Culbertson for 43 years. He preceded her in death in 1981 and on June 23, 1997, she moved to El Dorado Manor Nursing Home in Trenton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shorty; an infant daughter, Betty Lou; three brothers, Ed, Carl and Barney; and three sisters, Golda, Myrtle and Cleo.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and wife, Margie Bacon of Joshua Tree, Calif., Larry Bacon of Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Donna and husband, Elson Gutherie of Indianola, Belva and husband Snick Snyder of Loveland, CO, Mavis and husband, Richard Brunswick of St. George, Utah; one step-daughter, Esta and husband, Gib Richards of Denton, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 22 great great-grandchildren.
Services were Friday, January 28 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. Memorials may be made to El Dorado Manor. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Carpenter, former deputy county treasurer
Elmer E. Carpenter, 78, of Largo,Fla., and formally of Bradley, died Saturday at his home.
Visitation will be 3-9 pm. Friday at the Schreffer Funeral Hom's Bradley Chapel. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
Services will be held et 30 a.m Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.
The Rev. Joesph Butters will officiate and burial will be at the All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.
Mr. Carpenter was born to the late Ira and Caroline Naese Carpenter. His wife, the former Lorena
Locher, whom he married in 1936 at St. Patrick Catholic in Kankakee, died Aug. 29, 1988.
Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law. Donna and Ronald Poewers of San Diego, Calif., one son and daughter-in-law Tom and Maggie Carpenter of Oak Park; and three grandchildren.
One brother and one sister also are deceased.
Mr. Carpenter was production manager for the David Bradley Mfg. Co. from 1937 until his retirement in 1961.
He also was the chief deputy treasurer of Kankakee County from 1965 until 1973.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic church, Mr. Carpenter was a member and past president of the Holy Name Society.
He was chairman of the building fund drive at St. Joseph Church and served on the committee which established St. Patrick Central High School in 1954.
Mr. Carpenter was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and had served on the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital.
He was active in the Boy Scout program from 1948 to 1958 and received the highest award for services to scouting, the Silver Beaver Award in 1957.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Fund.

Ira J. Carpenter, 79, of Clifton passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at his Clifton residence. At his request, cremation rites are being accorded. There will be no visitation or services.
Mr. Carpenter was born at Clifton on Feb. 5, 1936, the son of Ira and Myrtle Murphy Carpenter Sr. His parents are deceased.
He married Lydia Marie Harback at Blytheville, Arkansas on August 29, 1986 and she preceded him in death on December 30, 2011.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Linda Carpenter of Kankakee.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Carpenter was retired from the Shapiro Center at Kankakee and had worked for the Daily Journal for a number of years as a driver. He loved Horses and animals.

Mrs. Carpenter was born Oct. 25, 1944, in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia Salichs Harback.
She was an administrator at Shapiro Developmental Center in Kankakee, retiring after 35 years of service. She was a registered nurse and had a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
She loved all animals and enjoyed trips to Florida and watching sports on television, especially auto racing.
Survivors include her husband, Ira J. Carpenter, whom she married Aug. 29, 1986, in Blytheville, Ark.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Randy and Linda Carpenter, of Kankakee; one sister, Neisa Dawson, of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Herb and Laura Harback, of Keswick, Va. one niece, Andrea Dawson, of Charlottesville; two nephews, Matt Harback, of Keswick and David (Willie) Harback, of Bristol, Va.

Killed In Crash
Clifford Carpenter was killed Instantly Friday evening shortly after six o'• chick, when his car and one driven by William C. Thurber of Westchester, crashed headon on a snow-blown high-way just west of Addison. Five persons in the other car were injured, none critically. Mr. Carpenter was born May 18, 1917 in Milks Grove township, but had lived Most of his life in the Chebanse area.
On Dec. 23, 1939, he wase united in marriage to Ethel Elliot. Deceased is survived by his grief-stricken widow; a daughter, Janice, 14; a son, James, 10, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carden-tee of Kankakee; and a brother, Roy of South Bend, Ind.
He was a graduate of Chebanse High School, and was a member of Chebanse Lodge No. 429 A. F. & A. M.. the Village Board of Chebanse, the Central Community Unit School District No. 4 board of directors, and the Central Foundation board of directors. For many years he operated a fleet of trucks.
At the time of his passing he was employed by the superior Motor Coach Sales Co. of Palatine.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Coke Croxen Funeral Home in Clifton, and at two o'clock from the Chebanee United Church; with the Rev. Lester A, Hill oilliciating.„
Mrs. Lloyd Burling was organist and Mrs. Lawrence Seibring and Miss Marilyn Burling rang "Still, Still With Thee" and "Does Jesus Care."
The floral offerings were many and beautiful, which bespoke in silent terms of the high esteem in which the departed was held. George 'Fortino, B. J. Burling, LeRoy Tatro, Carl Nordmeyer and Maurice McGinnia bore the remains to their final resting place in Evergreen cemetery.


Ethel Irene Elliot

Ethel I. Hopkins, 94, of Chebanse passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Faith Place in Danforth. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the United Church of Christ in Chebanse, the Rev. Marsha Collins will officiate. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am service. Burial will be in the Ashkum Cemetery. The family requests memorials in her name for the United Church of Christ of Chebanse. Arrangements are by the Knapp Funeral Home of Clifton. Mrs. Hopkins was born near Chebanse on December 5, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Hazel McCuen Elliot, her parents are deceased. She married Clifford Carpenter in Chebanse on December 23, 1939 and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1955. She then married Richard Hopkins in Gridley on April 11, 1959 and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1988.

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bill Faulkner of Ashkum; a son and daughter-in-law, James “Jim” and Charlene Carpenter of Loda; grandchildren, Lori (Phil) Radtke of Gilman, Tami (Bill) Kreft of Ashkum, Jeff (Kim) Faulkner of Clifton, Jason (Sara) Faulkner of Clifton, Kimberly (Don) White of Bourbonnais and Greg (Deanne) Carpenter of Bourbonnais; granddaughter-in-law, Laura Carpenter of Chebanse; grandson- in-law, Mike Barr of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Wendall Elliot of Manteno; a sister-in- law, Mary Elliot of Chebanse; a brother-in-law, Paul O’Brien of Reddick; twenty-three great- grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husbands are a granddaughter, Kelly Barr; a grandson, Timothy Carpenter; a great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dorothy Miller, Eloise Anderson, Lucille Peck and Lois O’Brien; and brothers, William Elliot and James Elliot.

Mrs. Hopkins was retired from the General Mills Corp with over 20 years of service and she had also cooked at the Central Community High School. She was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Chebanse and its Harmony Circle. She belonged to the Chebanse Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star, Chebanse American Legion Auxiliary and the Mills Mothers. She loved knitting, crosswords puzzles, reading and spending time with family and friends.
