GRAVE: images plus bio picture
John Elmer Carpenter
Birth: 10 Jun 1885
Death: 11 Jul 1959 (aged 74)
Burial: Price Cemetery, Lebanon, Smith County, Kansas, USA
Memorial #: 61322653
Bio:
John Elmer Carpenter, the eldest son of Mark and Nettie Carpenter, was born in Gratiot, Lafeyette County, Wisconsin on June 10,1885 and finished his course of life Friday July 1, 1959 reaching the age of 74 years, one month and one day.  In 1894 at the age of nine he moved (by covered wagon) with his parents to Lebanon, Kansas and here he spent the rest of his life.
On December 15, 1910, John was united in marriage with Ora Handley, a happy relationship that continued for 48 years.  Two sons came to bless their life and home: Harold and Karold. His principal occupation as section laborer for the railroad started June 10,1921 and continued until November 16, 1950 when he became ill and was unable to return to work, thus forcing him to retire on October 17, 1951.
These thirty years of hard honest labor give some insight as to the inner man.  John was courageous, faithful and humble as well as energetic in his life.  The golden rule was the guide for all his relationships with his family, his friends and his acquaintances.  Even in his eight years of suffering he displayed an amazing sense of humor and faithfulness in all things right and good. His great interest in life was his family and the families of his relatives and friends.
Young people were drawn to him and adults admired him.  His influence on the youth came because he had so much faith and interest in them, their activities and their future.
His honest friendliness and readiness to lend a helping hand earned him an abundance of friends from all walks and age groups of the community.  He was good to his neighbors and friends, a truly great father and husband and was admired and respected by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 30 years and past Noble Grand.Preceding him in death was one sister, Rosa, and three brothers, Frank, Ernest and Martin.
Left to mourn his passing, but to hold in their memories many things for all of life are his wife, Ora of Lebanon, two sons Harold of Denver, Co. and Karold of Stockton, Ca.; four sisters: Nellie Atwill of Lebanon, Myra Buller of Vancouver, Wa., Florence Eustace of Bridgeport, Ne. and Pearl Hart of Lincoln, Ne.

Martha M. “Marty” Carpenter Chandler
Birth: 26 Apr 1939 Wisconsin, USA
Death: 30 Mar 2014 (aged 74) New Glarus, Green County, Wisconsin, USA
Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Blanchardville, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA
Memorial #: 127566852
Bio:
If Martha "Marty" Chandler's life were a book, her last chapter was written on March 30, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Her first chapter began in Wiota when her parents, Clifford and Muriel (Wendt) Carpenter, welcomed her on April 26, 1939. She attended Van Matre School in Wiota, graduated from Darlington High School in 1957 and later UW Whitewater with a degree in education. Her first year of teaching was in Beloit and after marrying Carl Chandler on June 22, 1963. Marty taught various grades and subject areas in Blanchardville from Phy. Ed. to English. The next chapters included a variety of jobs in Blanchardville where she helped run the family insurance business, was a municipal judge, and sold real estate for many years. Other chapters would have been about her memberships in several community organizations in town such as The United Methodist Church, Jaycettes, Blanchardville Community Pride, Village Board, Historical Society, and Women's Club. Another chapter would describe her years with the Lafayette County Improvement/Development and the Wis. State Board of Realtors. One of the bigger chapters would be filled with hobbies and interests. Marty loved to hit garage sales, shop with coupons, travel, watch movies, read books, plan outings with the Red Hat Hatters along with her many treasured friends, and was a sports lover particularly the Packers, Badgers, Dallas Cowboys, and #1 Pecatonica Vikings fan.

Most likely the longest chapter would be much like Marty--devoted her family. She is survived by her husband Carl; two children, Chuck (Jodi) Chandler of Blanchardville and Cheralee "Cher" (Larry) Schliem of Blanchardville; five grandchildren Cayla (Nick) Allen, Kimberlee Chandler, Brooks Chandler, Jennah Schliem, and Drew Schliem; and one very special great granddaughter, Avery Allen; two sisters, Marilyn Elver and Joyce (Jerry) Tvedt, and two brothers, Jerry (Marilyn) Carpenter and David (Audrey) Carpenter; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Joe Elver. In her final chapter, Marty will no doubt have the best seat in the house, never missing another game.

A celebration of Marty's life will be held on Wednesday, April 16th from 5-8 pm at the Blanchardville American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Marty Chandler Scholarship Fund would be appreciated. The Saether Funeral Home of Blanchardville is assisting the family.
