The records of St. Georges Church at Hempstead show that Samuel was married
there to Esther Hopkins. After the peace, they moved back to Westchester
county where Samuel purchased a farm at Greenburgh where he resided until his
death. His will was proved 23 Sept. 1822. See notes on page 151.

In an attempt to correct much of the erroneous information regarding
Zeno Carpenter born May 18, 1762 in North Castle, Westchester,
NY. As posted in the Feb 7, 1851 Quaker newsletter THE FRIEND as a
memoir/obituary for Zeno Carpenter, son of William and Sarah Seaman
Carpenter. This is an excerpt from: "A Memoir of Friends in Smyrna,
concerning our beloved Friend Zeno CARPENTER, a member and minister
of New Hartford Monthly Meeting."
This our dear Friend, according to his own account, was born in North
Castle, Westchester county, New York, the 18th of Fifth month, 1762,
of honest parents professing the Troth, viz., William and Sarah Carpenter.
He was received a member of the Society of Friends; and about his
twenty-fourth year, he was joined in marriage with Lydia Clark. In
reference thereto he says, "I have and do believe, that it was the
pointings of best Wisdom that we were joined together."
In 1813 he lost his beloved wife, which proved a close trial to him,
yet he was favoured to resign all up to the Lord. In adverting to
which he says, "1 feel in a very tried, lonely situation, no other to
rely upon but God alone, who is my Rock, my Refuge, and safe hiding place."
In 1815, he removed within the limits of Bridgewater Monthly Meeting,
of which Smyrna was then a branch. In 1817 he was married to Sarah
Hoag and in 1822 removed to Utica, where he spent the most of the
remainder of his days.
He quietly breathed his last the 23rd of Third month, 1849, aged 86
years. Now gathered home like a shock of corn fully ripe. " Mark the
perfect man, and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace."

Carpenter. See page 152 & 153 for notes & family.He was a loyalist and became a Colonel in De Lancey's Battalion and as a
consequence he was forced to leave the country at the close of the
Revolutionary War. He had been married only a short while, when they left New
York on the ship Cyrus, with his parents & siblings, in September 1783 for what
is now known as St. John, New Brunswick.
On the voyage his wife gave birth to his son Willet, who, as far as the above
reasearcher can tell was their only child.
Col. Willett Carpenter became an extensive ship owner and afterwards in
partnership with David hatfield, was a prosperous merchant at St. John. He was

To the Honourable the Commissioners
appointed by a late Act of Parliament further
to enquire into the Losses and Services of
the American Loyalist &c &c &c
The Memmorial of Willet CARPENTER late of Westchester County in the
Province of New York but now of Queens County in the Province of New Brunswick
Most Humbly sheweth That your Memmorialist for his Loyalty to his King and firm attachment to the
British Goverment was Compelled to to [sic] fly for Refuge and Protection to
the Royal Army than at New York as Early as the year 1777 March the 12th
Day and your Memmorialist hath Rendered Goverment the Services and on
Account of his Said Loyalty hath Suffered the Losses Stated in the Schedule and
Estimate hereunto annexed.
Your Memmorialist therefore Prays that his Case may be Taken into your
Consideration in order that under your Honours Report that your
Memmorialist may be Enabled to Receive Such Aid and Relief as his Losses and Services
may be found to Deserve.

The Schedule and Estimate of the Losses and Services of Willet Carpenter
During the Late unhappy Dissentions in America Late of the County of
Westchester in the Province of New York.
(Vizt.)Â Â Your Memmorialist assisted to Raise a Company in the Kings
American Regt. as will appear by Request of Colo. FANNING went into the Fishkills
Mountain and Guided in Twenty Recruits to New York and after the
abovesaid Service Guided in to New York from North-Castle Seven Recruits to the
abovesd. Regt. five years Service at Morisinia under Command of Colo. James
DeLANCEY, Colo. Isaac HATFIELD and Major BAIRMORE.
1782 Sent out as a Spy by General LOUSBURGH and made Returns. Twice
a prisoner. Willet CARPENTER
Her father is believed to be Richardson Davenport but may have been his
brother Robert also.
