NOTE:
His biological mother gives her out of wed lock child to Manuel & Bettie Cockerham.
As for how we know Gilbert Carpenter was my Father’s biological father, we learned that from family members of both Lela Mea Sanders and Gilbert Carpenters family. Also, we have both taken Autosomal DNA test and compared the results on several databases. Based on our DNA matches with Gilbert Carpenter’s direct relatives on both his Paternal and Maternal side, we have concluded that he is the only possible biological father. Lela gave up my father to Manual and Bettie Cockerham but we haven’t been able to locate an official adoption record in the state of Louisiana which is not uncommon since that was the during the Depression era in the deep south. Based on our common ancestors, there is no one else that can be my Fathers biological father. Mark
