Bio:
IN MEMORIAM
Mrs. Maggie Evelyn Carpenter was born near Minter, Lamar County, April 5th, 1844.  Afterwards moved to Farmerville, Collin County, thence to Hunt County.
She was married to J. M. Carpenter in 1868, moving with him to Gober, Fannin County, where she resided till her death, Sept. 16th, 1923.
To this union were born six children, five of whom survive her.  (J. W., deceased), J. E., W. A.  and R. E. carpenter of Gober, and Mrs. Bettie Terry of near Bonham, and Mrs. Minnie Minchey of near Honey Grove.
One sister, Mrs. Mary Gray, Farmersville, Texas, 33 grand children and 9 great grand children.
She was on the bed of affliction for several months and suffered at times excruciating pain, but amid all the suffering she was patient and cheerful, and said at the last that she was ready to go.
She joined the Methodist church when quite young and lived a devoted Christian life till God said, "It is enough, come up higher."  She is not dead.  Those who live in other hearts are immortal and she could not die.  We shall see her dear old face in that land unswept by storm and tempest.  She had her toils and heartaches, her hours of weeping, but the clouds have rifted and these mists have vanished before the winds blown soft from the heavenly land.  She faced the rising sun with ecstatic joy.  Dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend has slipped away from the world.  She helped so much to build.  She has joined the "Choir Invisible of those immortal dead who live again."  "There beneath the spreading skies Where angelic anthems rise In the region of the blest Sank the pilgrim down to rest And an angel softly whispered, "Child of time thy course is done Thou has fought and thou hast conquered Now indeed is rest begun."  After the beautiful and impressive sermon by Bro. Graves we laid her body to rest in the Gober Cemetery. " By One Who Loved Her"

Carpenter Family
Hi, Larry:
While I was browsing Fannin County TX records, I found, and ordered, records related to the sons of Johnson Bassham and Malvina Carpenter Bassham. Zephaniah (Zeph) Bassham died 15 March, 1897 and James Johnson died 9 Nov 1892. If you would like a scan of the supporting documents, you can email me at mharrisblanco@aol.com.

The Bassham's other son, Luther, lived beyond the rest of his family. I am still operating on the THEORY that Luther ended up living his life as my great grandfather, David R. 'Doc' Stephens. I have a lot of DNA evidence and am continuing to work on the paper trail.

Regards,
Mary Harris
