Annie Lou had one daughter born April 1899, that child is listed on the 1900 census reports as Harvey Lee & is erronously listed as grand-son to head of household. Her name was likely “Harvie Leigh” (Lela) Owens. The 1910 AL census list the following children; 1. Leigh Carpenter dau., (Harvey had been dropped along with the Owen last name, she was simply listed as Leigh “Lela” Carpenter & probably never knew that Andrew wasn’t her biological father.)

Janrose Cotton Carpenter, 87, widow of David Earl Carpenter, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012 at The Terrace in Berea.
Mrs. Carpenter was a life-long resident of Madison County, having been born in Poosey Ridge on March 7, 1925 to Carl S. Cotton and Hallie Cotton White.
She was a graduate of Berea College and a retired teacher, having taught at Clark Moores Middle School and Madison Central High School. Mrs. Carpenter had worked in the Research Department at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and Oak Ridge Atomic Energy Commission. She was a member of Kirksville Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Retired Teachers of Madison County. To her family, she was the Matriarch and main caregiver who held memorable 4th of July celebrations.
Her survivors include two sons; David Milton Carpenter (Debbie) of Berea, Martin A. Carpenter (Theresa Barnes) of Bardstown, granddaughter; Shaun McEntire, grandson; Wesley Barnes and great granddaughter; Elizabeth McEntire.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Tommy Cotton and James Cotton and her sister; Sarah Harris.
Funeral services at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Pennington and Bro. Jack Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-9 P.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Gordon Cotton, Jimmy Cotton, Butch Fineisen, John Yeager, D. H. Hill and Barry Gibson.
