Mrs. Velma Elise Carpenter, 89, wife of the late William Frank Carpenter, entered into rest on Monday, October 18, 2010 at University Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Pineview Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Mrs. Carpenter, formerly of Belvedere, moved to the area in 1952 from Lexington, SC. She retired as a clerical worker from United Merchants Manufacturing. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where she was a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class. Additional survivors include two nieces,and one brother- in-law.The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of National Healthcare in North Augusta and to the staff of the 7th floor at University Hospital. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Faithful Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from noon until 1:30pm. Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church of North Augusta, 625 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841. Please visit the online registry at www.rowlandfuneralhome.com

Bio: Mrs. Thetis Carpenter BrinsonSeptember 28, 1924 - October 24, 2014Thetis Valeta Carpenter Brinson, 90 of Sylvania passed away Friday afternoon at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by her family.Mrs. Brinson was born September 28, 1924 in Guyton, GA, the youngest daughter and youngest child of the late Ernest Gary and Fannie Newton Carpenter. She was a 1942 graduate of the Guyton High School, where she was a member of the girls basketball team and voted as best in athletes of the year. She went to work at Savannah News and Press as a bookkeeper in the circulation department for 10 years leaving in 1952 to marry R. Edward Brinson whom she met in 1950 and moved to Sylvania, GA. She was a member of Bay Branch Baptist Church where she taught in Sunday School, Training Union and Vacation Bible School. She also served as Treasurer of the Church and as a former member of the choir. Mrs. Brinson was preceded in death by sisters, Merwin C. Lee and Ernestine C. Nease, and a brother, William L. Carpenter.Surviving are her husband, R. Edward Brinson; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Edward and Nancy Cannon Brinson; grandchildren, Brittney Layne Brinson Thompson and Kelly Thompson, and Garrett Edward Brinson; two great-grandchildren, William Thompson and Emilia Thompson.She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to an extended family. She loved all her family dearly and demonstrated it to them daily. She was a true friend and encourager, sharing her loved ones joys and sorrows always willing to share or lend a helping hand. She was a generous and caring friend to all who knew her and was the true example of a virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. She was always ready with a warm loving smile or a word of encouragement. She was a woman of strong faith and love who instilled those ideals in her son, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. in the Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel.Graveside Services will be Sunday, October, 26th, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. in the Pfeiffer Cemetery with Pastor Travis Smith and Rev. Blake Hicks Officiating.Pallbearers will be Gary Brinson, Garrett Brinson, Kelly Thompson, Tommy Spence, Bubba Nease and Jerry Burns.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531 Statesboro, GA 30458.Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.

Bio: Catherine Hungerpiller Carpenter, 93, of North Charleston, died Tuesday in a Charleston nursing home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Deer Park Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Parks Funeral Home of Summerville, will be in Hungerpiller Family Cemetery in Elloree. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Augusta, a daughter of Charles W. Hungerpiller and Lorlie Nichols Hungerpiller. She was a graduate of Elloree High School. She was a charter member and pianist and organist with Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church in Tybee Island, Ga. She was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church and was the widow of Ernest M. Carpenter. Surviving are five sons, Charles R. Carpenter of Albuquerque, N.M., Jack A. Carpenter of Pueblo, Colo., Roy M. Carpenter of Pace, Fla., William H. Carpenter of North Charleston and Richard L. Carpenter of Elloree; a sister, Lois Hungerpiller of Elloree; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
