Mr. Roger Hayden, 66, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at his residence in Hamburg. A native of Portland, he had lived in the Pine Hill community for the past two years after a 19-year residence in Lufkin, TX, and he was a former resident of Crescent City, CA. He retired from Louisiana Pacific as a plywood area plant manager after 18 years and was also a former Georgia Pacific employee and continued to work part time as a consultant for Georgia-Pacific. A member of the Plywood Pioneers Association and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Crossett where he had been junior and senior warden and was currently serving on the vestry, he was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Bessie Childs Hayden, and a sister, Pattie Hayden Nunes. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Claudia Wigley Hayden of Hamburg; two sons, Steve Hayden and wife Becki of Fordyce and Mike Hayden and wife Lisa of Natchitoches, LA; a sister, Marlys Carpenter and husband Gary of Crossett; a brother, Jack Hayden of Monroe, LA; a sister, Jean King of Crescent City, CA, and nine grandchildren, Shana, Jennah, Ashley, Kristina, Kelsey, Holley, Christopher, and Jason Hayden and Aaron Carpenter. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. George Hart officiating. Pallbearers were David Edwards, Tommy Hatcher, Donnie Paul, Eugene Owens, Paul Jones, Otis Paul Malloy, Jim Clark and Ronnie Paul. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Givens, John Moskeand, Clem Johnson, Edwin Edwards, Scott Campbell, Gary Draper, Don Rothenbush, Cecil Smith, Calvin Murphy, Arlo Johnson and Fred Graves. Burial followed services at the Flat Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 795, Crossett, AR 71635.Family Members

Mr. Elmer J. Carpenter, 67, a native of Ashley County and a life-long resident of Hamburg, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He retired from Georgia-Pacific's plywood operations in 1995 as a maintenance supervisor, and he was a member of the Judson Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Myrtle McCarty Carpenter; a brother, Velmar Carpenter; three half-brothers, Henry and Clark Carpenter and Travis Lansdale; and a half- sister, Edna Usher. Survivors are his wife, Madie Cunningham Carpenter of Hamburg; a son, Dennis Carpenter of Arkansas City; two daughters, Janice Moffatt and Norma Amos of Hamburg; two brothers, Willie Carpenter and Howard Lansdale of Hamburg; a sister, Eva Pruitt of Fountain Hill; ten grandchildren, Amanda Moffatt Jeffers, Scott and Brad Moffatt, Landen, Jana and Dana Carpenter and Nicholas, Russell, Ryan and Cory Amos; and three great-grandchildren, Jay and Ace Jeffers and Alec Amos. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 13, in the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church with Revs. James Morris and Lane Amos officiating. Pallbearers were Scott and Brad Moffatt, Nicholas, Russell, Ryan and Cory Amos, Landen Carpenter and Clint Jeffers. Honorary pallbearers were C. B., Robbie and Morris Cunningham, Lynn Croswell, Vernon McNiece and William Van Hook. Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mrs. Ethel Streeter Carpenter, 73, of Fountain Hill went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 18, 2010. She was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Fountain Hill for most of her life. She worked at the Hamburg Shirt Factory for over 25 years and she has been a Foster Grandparent at the Hamburg Pre-K for 13 years. She had a great time teaching and loving the children there and they each had a special place in her heart. She had an amazing ability to let a kid be a kid. She was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12) Today many people's hearts are sick with longing and missing this precious lady. She was mostly known for her loving heart and caring spirit. She married her husband in April 1954. She loved him so much that they snuck off to get married and they were together until his death. She only had one child by birth, but she had countless others that her heart had adopted as her own. She had the rare ability to see only the good in the people she met. Even when others only saw the mistakes you made, she chose to see the positive and good in you. She had a way to love you through your tough times. She was a great example of a meek woman. She was soft spoken and had a way to put your heart at east. She would say, "Everything's gonna be alright." You knew she believed it and she had a way of helping you believe it too. She was truly a servant and wanted everybody to be well taken care of and happy. She was a care giver and if you needed her you could bet she would be there. You never heard her say anything bad about anyone and she would never dream of hurting anyone's feelings. You could count on her saying what she thought, so you never asked her opinion unless you really wanted to know the answer. If you found yourself having a difference of opinion from her, she wouldn't argue. She figured that if she had an opinion, you probably did too and what ever it was, it was okay.
She loved her kids, grand kids, and great-grandkids. She was a great Wife, Mother, Granny, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt, Teacher and friend. Grandson Dylan hung the moon for her and she hung the stars for him.
She will be missed for many things, but no one can make a better fried catfish and deer hunting won't be the same without coming home to her great fried chicken. She spent many years quilting and loved it. In looking back on the beautiful tapestry that she wove in her life, we can see the beautiful stitches and designs that she left not only on our own lives, but in the world around us.She is preceded in death by her husband, Velmar Carpenter in 1989 and her parents, Claud & Doris Sparkman Streeter.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen Amos and husband, Danny of Fountain Hill; a sister, Claudine Phillips of Williamsburg, Kentucky; a brother, Thomas "Vernon" Streeter of Brazoria, Texas; grandchildren, Carrie (Christy) Franks and husband, Jeff, of Beaumont, Texas; Larry "JR" Hasty and wife, Melissa, of Fountain Hill; Geoffrey Hasty and wife, Jessica, of Dublin, Georgia; Dylan Amos of Fountain Hill; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brad, Bailey, Dustin, Justine and Jake.
Funeral services are 5 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Drew County, with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Larry Hasty, Geoffrey Hasty, Jeff Franks, Brandon Franks, Nicholas Amos, Russell Amos, Ryan Amos and Cory Amos. Memorials may be made to the Prairie Grove Baptist Church, 261 Bowden Loop Road, Monticello, AR 71655.

Rev. Hunter E. Carpenter, 82, of Hamburg, died Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Crossett Rehabilitation and Health Center. Mr. Carpenter was a native of Fountain Hill and a resident of Hamburg for the past 56 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was the Parts Manager for the Higginbotham Motor Company and the Linder Motor Company in Hamburg for many years. He was a Minister and pastored several Southern Baptist Churches in Arkansas and Louisiana. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.He is preceded in death by his parents, Lige Clark & Lula Strong Carpenter and a brother, Floyd Norman Carpenter.
He is survived by is wife of 60 years, Willene Graves Carpenter of Hamburg; a son, Rev. Tim Carpenter and wife, Dianna, of Hot Springs; a daughter, Gail Carter and husband, Randall, of Van Buren; a sister, Janis Graves and husband, Jerry Wayne, of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Adrianna Carter of Rogers, Andrew and Will Carpenter both of Hot Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington, Rev. Garry Graves officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery with Rev. Gayle Riles and Rev. Tim Carpenter officiating. Pallbearers are Mark Bowden, Clyde Upton, Steve Upton, Jerry Jackson, Ricky Carpenter, Will Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter, Kevin Graves, Randall Carter and Wayne Graves.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Willene Graves Carpenter, 82, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in Crossett. Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Hamburg and Fountain Hill for most of her life. She was a homemaker and an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Carpenter was a Pastors wife and her husband often stated that she was the best Pastor’s wife a pastor could ever ask for. She was an excellent cook, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rev. Hunter E. Carpenter in 2016; her parents, Ira Homer and Willie Emma Turner Graves and two sisters, Evelyn Faye Carpenter and Norma Graves Wheeler.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Tim Carpenter and wife, Dianna, of Hot Springs; her daughter, Gail Carter and husband, Randall, of Van Buren; a brother, Jerry Wayne Graves and wife, Janis, of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Adrianna Carter of Rogers, Andrew Carpenter and Will Carpenter both of Hot Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ty Danielson and Rev. Gayle Riles officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Drew County. Pallbearers are Mark Bowden, Jim Atkins, Dr. Justin Atkins, Ben Carpenter, Clyde Upton, and Steve Upton. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Graves, Wayne Graves, Randall Carter, Jerry Jackson, Will Carpenter and Andrew Carpenter. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel.Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home

Mrs. Esther A. Carpenter, 91, of Fountain Hill died Friday, September 15, 2000, at her residence. A native of Drew County and a resident of the Prairie Grove community in Drew County all her life, she was a homemaker and a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshal Carpenter, in 1998; a son, Garland Carpenter, earlier this year, a daughter, Clotene Carpenter in 1947; her parents, Owen & Mary Mullins Carpenter; five brothers, Horace, Willie, Frank, Owen & Tom Carpenter; and seven sisters, Rosetta Chadwick, Marie Carpenter, Lois Causey, Effie McManus, Mary Carter, Amy & Birdie Carpenter.
She is survived by five sons, Ronnie Carpenter of Ladelle, Kenny Carpenter of Hamburg; Mershal D. Carpenter of Crossett; Jimmy C. Carpenter and Billy Randell Carpenter, both of Fountain Hill; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 17, in the Prairie Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Jack Ferguson & Jimmy Bates officiating. Pallbearers were Ricky, Gary, Herbert, Jimmy Ryan & Randell Wade Carpenter, James Martin, Ryan McRae and Herbert Carpenter, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were J.W. Knighten, Clifford Bowden, Bob Lloyd and Macon Causey. Interment followed services at the Prairie Grove Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.Family Members

Bio: Connie Jolene Wood, age of Hot Springs, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Monday, August 19, 2019.Born September 13, 1944 at Monticello, she was a daughter of the late Frank M. Carpenter and Edna Mary Lee Carpenter. She was a graduate of White Hall High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello (Arkansas A&M College).
Connie worked as office manager for Cardiovascular Surgery Center of Arkansas for several years. She was also a member of Pine Bluff First Assembly of God.
She was also predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Wendell Wood on June 24, 2014.
Survivors include her son, Brad Wood and wife Julie of Little Rock; a daughter, April James and husband Chris of Hot Springs; a sister, Carolyn Rodgers of Malvern; three grandchildren, Natalie Fischer and husband Jacob, Abigail Horton and husband Ronnie, and Jessica Wood; and a great-grandchild, Hayden McKee.
