Mary Anita Sedberry, 95, of Little Rock, passed away May 17, 2015. Born April 12, 1920 in Montrose to Claude Carpenter, Sr. and Bessie Harrison Carpenter, Mary was a retired realtor, having managed numerous apartment complexes in Little Rock.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, brother, Claude, Jr.(79759621), and son, George.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Bettye, deceased) of Little Rock; daughter-in-law, Diane of Benton; four grandchildren, Anita, G. W., Beth and Krissie; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Savannah and Vivian.

The family would like to thank the staff at Foxridge Chenal and the nursing staff at the Coronary Care Unit at CHI St. Vincent for their loving care.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).

Graveside services will be Thursday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m., at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, officiated by Deacon Jim Dockins.

Claude Brewer Carpenter, Jr., 86, of Little Rock was born December 30, 1924 and died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara McHenry Carpenter; daughter, Kimberly Thompson (Terry); son, Patrick Carpenter (Joni); his sister, Mrs. Anita Sedberry; grandchildren, Olivia Carpenter, Mollie Fiegel, Katie O'Brien, Austin O'Brien and Daniel Thompson; a great-grandson, Xander Fiegel; and a much loved ShihTzu named Muffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Bessie Carpenter, a daughter, Claudia Kelly Carpenter; a nephew, George Sedberry; and a brother-in-law, James Sedberry.

Claude was educated at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and received his Bachelor of Law at the Arkansas School of Law at Little Rock, as well as his Juris Doctorate. He had worked on his Master of Science Degree at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

During his lifetime, he was a teacher and principal in Pulaski County. He was Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arkansas, Administrative Assistant to Governor Faubus; Administrative Assistant to United States Congressmen in Washington, D.C.; an attorney for the Arkansas Public Service Commission and attorney for the Arkansas Commerce Commission for the State of Arkansas.

He served in the United States Navy in World War II for three and one half years and was in the United States Army National Guard for twenty-seven years, where he retired as a Colonel.

He was the recipient of many awards and decorations, the highest of which was the Legion of Merit.

He was active in Veterans Affairs by serving in the American Legion M.M. Eberts Post 1 for sixty-five years, holding many offices – the longest being the National Legislative Commission for twenty-seven years. He served on the Governor's Task Force for twelve years and served two terms as Chairperson. He was a life member of the DAV and Retired Officers Association; a member of Mary Williams Lodge 307, and West Wood Lodge 353. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite; a member of the 40/8; Navy Fleet Association and the Scimitar Shrine and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was active in the Clinton Presidential Campaign as a member of the Arkansas Travelers and Veterans for Clinton.

In his professional life, he invested in real estate, one of which was building the Fifteen Fifteen (1515) Building which he later sold to the State.

After the death of his youngest child in 1984, he bought several race horses and he and his wife traveled to many states with the race horses.

While facing many medical challenges during his life, he always had a smile on his face and many did not know of the pain he suffered. He finally succumbed to cancer on November 1st.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at Baptist Hospital, especially on the 10th and 3rd floors; Baptist Home Health; and Baptist Hospice. A special thanks to Dr. Jerry Silvoso and Dr. Kamal Patel who helped him for many years.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his "Baby Dog", Muffin.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel             (501)224-8300      . Entombment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Child Welfare, 7th & Victory, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203.

Barbara Jean McHenry Carpenter died November 21, 2017, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Barbara was born on April 16, 1932, in Little Rock, to Vera McHenry.

She was preceded in death by her mother Vera, her husband, Claude and her daughters, Kelly and Kim. She is survived by her son, Pat Carpenter (Joni); granddaughters, Mollie, Olivia (Allison), and Katie; grandson, Austin; and great-grandson, Xander; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte.

Barbara was a secretary for the Faubus Administration where she met her husband, Claude, and her wonderful life really began. She will be remembered by many whether it be from her time hosting a morning show on Channel 7, to running Claude's political campaigns, the Shack BBQ Restaurant, her time serving for the American Legion, serving as an administrator in the healthcare realm, or traveling the world with her beloved Claude.

Her love of animals knew no size. From her time racing thoroughbreds down to her darling shi-tzu Sadie and all the stray cats in between.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 25, at 12 noon with funeral services at 1 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.

She is survived by a son, James H. Carpenter Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Greenville; a daughter Geneva Kay Heath and her husband, Bill, of Brandon; one sister, Sue Plunk of Duck Hill; one sister-in-law, Agnes Heath of Winona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Bob Blakely will officiate at the services.
Burial will be in Valley Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Stafford, Pete Heath, Robert Browning, Jamie Carpenter, Andy Fancher and Shane Heath.Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Stafford, Jesse Heath and David Heath.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 this evening at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.

CARROLLTON - Services for Jiles Thomas Carpenter, 76, of Carrollton, who died of cancer, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at his home, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.

Mr. Carpenter was a railroad conductor, who retired after many years of service with the railroad. A native of Carroll County, he was a former resident of Memphis, Term., where he worked for the Army Depot. He lived in Florida for 20 years before returning to Carroll County. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He attended Enon Methodist Church in Carroll County. He was a member of Big Hungry Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Potts Carpenter of Carrollton; two daughters, Janet Carpenter Potts of Forney, Texas, and Sharon Carpenter Carter of Horn Lake; one sister, Juanita Martin of Greenwood; and four grandchildren, Donny Shankle of Memphis, John A Potts and Jeffery T Potts, both of Forney, and Shelley R. Shankle of Little Rock, Ark.

The Rev. Bobby Cain and the Rev. Wilson Ray will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Enon Methodist Church Cemetery

Pallbearers will be Johnnie Martin, Terry Tingle, Ricky Kirk, Jeff Potts, John A Potts, Doyle Carpenter, Joey Carpenter and Zack Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Booker, Charles McCorkle, Curren Noah, Ray Hall, Harris Powers and Charles Cern Johnston.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Gladys Potts Carpenter, 91, of Carrollton, MS died Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona, MS. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Enon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County, MS. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Ramage will officiate at the services. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carpenter was born June 25, 1927 to William Everett Potts and Ree Etta Gilliam. She was a member of Enon United Methodist Church. She worked for over 30 years at Sears & Roebuck in Memphis before her retirement. She loved doing volunteer work for the needy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jiles Thomas Carpenter and her daughter, Sharon Carpenter Carter.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her daughter, Janet Carpenter Potts of Carrollton, MS, and sister, Redean Taylor of Orlando, FL, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Athlean Carpenter, age 82 of the Ladelle community, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2018 at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock. She was born November 9, 1935 in Ladelle to the late Elisha Harvey Goyne and Sarah Lee Deal Goyne.

She was a dedicated pastor’s wife to her late husband, Rev. Ronnie Carpenter, homemaker and a retired Drew Central Food Service Director for 37 years. She also previously worked as a sales retail sales clerk. In her later years, she was the daily sitter for her two great granddaughters, Emma and Caroline, for seven years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Garvin and Clell Goyne; one sister, Virginia Lloyd; and one infant sister.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Ladelle Baptist Church where her grandson pastors and, in recent years, also attended Prairie Grove Baptist Church where her son pastors. It was her joy to support both her son and her grandson in their ministries. She was very active in her church as she sang in both church choirs, was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was on the finance committee for many years. Her hobbies included reading her Bible, sitting on her porch bird watching, cooking for family and friends, hunting in her early years, along with picnicking with her two great granddaughters.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Ricky L. Carpenter of Ladelle; one daughter, Rhonda Carpenter Mitchell and husband Billy of Ladelle; three grandchildren, John Mitchell, Joanna Rayner and Ryan McRae and wife Liz; seven special great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and three brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Ladelle Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Carpenter and Rev. Ryan McRae officiating. Burial will follow in Ladelle Cemetery. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Ladelle Baptist Church and Prairie Grove Baptist Church.
