She was preceded in death by her husband A.J. Curtis, her father and step-mother, Ted and Laverne Wheeler; her mother and step-father, Geneva and Bill Jobe, one sister Jerry Scroggins; and grandson, Michael Piper. She attended Tabernacle of Faith Church.

Charles Edwin Carpenter, 66, of Hamburg, died Friday, August 23, 2019, at his residence. Mr. Carpenter was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1971 and attended Southern Arkansas University. Mr. Carpenter worked as an Assistant Manager for Jade Grocery Store for 17 years.  He then worked construction for Danny Amos, built houses for John Hodge, poured concrete for John Wooten and retired from construction work five years ago with Ricon. He was a member of the Church of the Redeemer, loved his church family and especially enjoyed greeting everyone at the front door. Mr. Carpenter was an avid sportsman, and tried out for professional baseball.  He enjoyed sitting in the mall while his wife shopped, hunting, four wheeler riding and loved going fishing with his lifelong friend, Jimmy Pennington. Mr. Charles told his wife and daughter that he was ready to get in the boat with Jesus.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Wood Carpenter in 2000; four brothers, James “Pete” Carpenter, Waymond Vance Carpenter, Jimmy Carpenter and Doyle Carpenter and his grandparents, Tom and Lena Bozeman.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Losh Carpenter; his daughter, Stacey Carpenter Martin; his mother, Lena Maxie Bozeman Carpenter all of Hamburg; two brothers, Haskell Carpenter and wife, Rita, of Crossett and Willie Mac Carpenter of Hamburg; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Taxiera and husband, Phil, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Dorothy Weathers and husband, John, of Huntingtown, Maryland; two brothers-in-law, David Losh and wife, Julie, of Leonardtown, Maryland and Douglas Losh of Lothian, Maryland and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2019, at the Church of the Redeemer with Pastor Bob Whiteley and Bro. Jerry Grant officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Drew County. Pallbearers are Jimmy Pennington, Thomas Carpenter, Richard Carpenter, Steven Carpenter, Tad Huntsman, and Jamie Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Bates, Rodney Reeves, Tim Lovett, Randy Lloyd, Gene Thompson, Jason Carpenter, Justin Carpenter and  the Men of the Church of the Redeemer. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ida Jean Carpenter, 70, of Hamburg died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at her home. A native and life-long resident of Hamburg, she worked at Jades Super Foods in Hamburg for over 20 years and was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Owen Carpenter, in 1983; her parents, Adrian and Virdell Higginbotham McDonald; three sisters, Dorothy, Joyce and Linda; and a brother, Jimmy.
Survivors are two sons, Bruce Carpenter of Crossett and Thomas A. Carpenter of Hamburg; a daughter, Susan Blankinship of Hamburg; four brothers, Phillip, Billy and Gary McDonald of Hamburg and Garvin McDonald of Crossett; and four grandchildren, Owen, Brett and Erin Carpenter and Leigh Anne Blankenship.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 7, in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Meredith officiating.
Pallbearers were Joe Foote, Owen Carpenter, Brett Carpenter, Wade McDonald, Billy Keith McDonald, Mike Scallion, Bill Givens and Durwood Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the church.
Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Dot Higginbotham, 518 South Main, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Mary Frances Carpenter, 93, of North Little Rock, died Monday, July 1, 2019, at Springhill Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock.  Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Hamburg and a resident of North Little Rock for the past six years.  She and her husband, Billy, were former residents of Hamburg for many years and late in their life, they followed their children and grandchildren to reside in Monticello and then Greenbrier.  Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Services.  She was a member of the Bono Baptist Church in Greenbrier and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Billy R. Carpenter in 2010; two sons-in-law, Howard Sanderlin and Mike Scallion; her parents, Homer & Bertha Hobson Hall, a brother, Herman Hall and four sisters, Vivian Walker, Inez Watkins, Lois Mercer, and Reba Minugh.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Sanderlin of North Little Rock and Shirley Scallion of Greenbrier. Mrs. Carpenter was affectionately known as “Mamaw” to her grandchildren, Jason Sanderlin and wife, Lisa, Julie Sanderlin and Kara Brooks and her seven great-grandchildren, Joel Webb, Bogie Webb, Will Sanderlin, Addison Sanderlin, Laney Deal, Peyton Greiner and Brody Greiner.  Everyone was welcome at her home or table, no invitation required, and no exceptions.  She was beloved by all who knew her, and for decades her home was the destination of a very large extended family on every Thanksgiving. She was the very embodiment of Genesis 2:18 “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” She never failed to care for her husband and family and routinely got up well before dawn to make certain no one left home without a hot breakfast.
Graveside services are 4 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2019, in Pinewood Memorial Park with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren, Joel Webb, Bogie Webb, Will Sanderlin, Addison Sanderlin, Laney Deal, Peyton Greiner, and Brody Greiner.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamburg, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  
Visitation is 2-3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

He was born August 26, 1932 in Monticello, Arkansas to Thomas and Jenette Shockley Carpenter.

Eugene had lived in this area since 1970 and was a member of First Baptist Church Port Neches. He was a retired electrician and member of IBEW Local #341.  He was a United States veteran serving in the Navy from 1953 – 1955.

Burial: Oak Bluff Memorial Park.

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carpenter.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Schroeder; three sons, Derwood Carpenter, David Carpenter, and Chris Carpenter; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorial services were conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1986, from Chester Baptist Church for Ralph H. (Buddy) Carpenter, 56, a Drew native and Ackerman resident.
Carpenter died Sunday, Jan. 5, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Barbara Jean Carpenter of Ackerman, four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Mason and Miss Anita Carpenter, both of Ackerman, Mrs. Shelley Peusch of Jackson and Mrs. Peggy Upchurch of North Little Rock, Ark., one son, Randy Carpenter of Ackerman, three brothers, Harold Lee Carpenter of Carrollton, Grady Carpenter of Greenwood and J.B. Carpenter of Chattanooga, and nine grandchildren.
A member of Chester Baptist Church, Carpenter was a retired minister and a retired South Central Bell employee.
Services were preached by the Rev. Stan Ballard and the Rev. Doug Herring. Burial was in Chester Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Orr, C. H. Henderson, Hayward Perry, Charles Peeples, Leroy Woods and Tommy Fulce.
Adams-Nowell Funeral Home of Ackerman handled arrangements.
