CONFLICT: Y-DNA mismatch
Descendants of calimed son John Carpenter Jr.-146674 (of an unknown marriage) who have Y-DNA tested are part of Group 18 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
NOTE: Based on the information gathered, the John Carpenter-146673 is consistent with the John Carpenter-8494
( b. 6 APR 1756 Rehobotoh, Bristol, MA - d. 1 FEB 1843 • Brattleboro, Windham, VT ) son of John Carpenter-8486 and Bethiah French. JC-8494 is a Carpenter line associated with Group 3 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
NOTE:
The early census records indicate a John Carpenter, Jr. b. abt 1776 in Brattleboro where and when John C.-8494 was present. I identify this John C.Jr.-146674 as the son of John C-146673.
NOTE:
See the problem? Two John C.s in one family or John C.-8494 had another marriage or relationship abt 1776 at age 20 before his first documented marriage of 11 Jan 1781. Or maybe ...? This is likely a sign of a NPE aka a non-paternal or non-paternity event.
NOTE:
NPEs can happen due to a formal or informal adoption of DNA into a genealogical line. Historically, a young widow with a young son would likely remarry. And the young son who bonds with his step-father often took his step-father's surname.
The farther back in time the NPE is, the harder it is to identify.
An NPE could explain how the "claimed" grandson John Carpenter II-20567 has descendants that are part of Group 18 and not part of Group 3 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
NOTE:
Cynthia Brown likely married and had a young son before her first husband died? Then she married Carpenter.
If so, we have an Non-Paternal Event or Non-Paterinty Event (NPE) where the young male child bonded with his step-father and assumed the surname Carpenter. Need more research on this.
Descendants of John Carpenter Jr.-146674 match genetically with Group 18 and not Group 3.GRAVE: image
