Number 311 in the book, the Carpenter Family in America by Daniel H.
Carpenter, 1901. No family listed.
He was of Coyeman's, Columbia county.
This descendant line is from Cheri Nolan who submitted it as a querry in July
1999. "The following information is from the Bible of Julia Smith Davis and in
the possession of Paul Davis, Erie, PA. The information was there, but not the
relationships. I sent for death certificates and through them and was able to
determine who the parents of Julia's mother, Charity Carpenter was. From
there, I took the e first wife and her children, then who was the second wife
and her children. I determined Elizabeth's first husband was from the Bible
records." Per Cheri Nolan.

relative of Elizabeth. Her son Alfred was a pattern maker then later a
plumber.

!MARRIAGE: Marriage licence is dated 17 July 1780 and they were married 25 Oct.
1781. Why so long between dates is unknown.
Per records at St. George's Church in Hempstead.

In 1785 they sold their place at Musketa Cove and moved to the "Middle Patent"
at North Castle, Westchester county, NY. He purchased a large farm there of
161 acres. Shortly after Morri's wife died he remarried. He sold his farm and
moved to his new wife's farm where he continued until his death.

On Nov. 25, 1826, Jacob Smith, son in law to Morris (husband of Elizabeth) was
appointed administrator of his estate. Westchester Wills, Vol. D, p. 209.
Morri's farm was sold for $4,000 and proceeds were divided among his seven
children.

3563. Deborah Carpenter

Jesse Coles was a soldier in the Revolution and was taken prisoner while
carrying a message to General Washington. He was confined many months
in the prision ship at the Wallabout. Jesse was also one of the first
Methodist classleaders at Musketa Cove.
Deborah and her husband removed to Greensburgh, Westchester county and they had
a large family. Jesse bought his farm, about 1 1/2 miles east of Tarrytown,
from Aaron Burr on 2 July 1791. Joseph Coles was Jesse's executor in the will.

Family Legend says that just before Deborah died she made her husband promise
to marry Freelove, whose husband had died twenty years prior.

MARRIAGE: Mariage certificate dated 20 March 1781, and they were married a few
days later.

'The cemetery used by the Carpenter family whose ancestors were the original purchasers of the Mosketo Cove Patent. The cemetery was laid out in 1855 and the first headstone is dated 1861. For a short time the cemetery was under the control of the Carpenter Memorial Church of Glen Cove, but returned to the control of the Carpenter family. It is still in use...' - subquote from Guide to Historic Tour, Diamond Jubilee of Sea Cliff (1958). Hale notes: 'from the transcript below (burials), the dates given in this statement must be erroneous. Copied by Hale Nov 1, 1961.'

DEATH:Burial Grounds attached to the Searingtown Methodist Episcopal Church
is a memorial stone erected to Freelove and John Searing. By a curious
mistake, no mention is made that "Freelove Coles" was the wife first of Rev.
John Searing, by whose side she sleeps, then Jesse Coles of Tarrytown.
The grave stones are close to the easterly side on the church. They read:
Rev. John Searing died Oct. 29, 1815 aged 46 years AND
Freelove Coles died Oct. 17, 1843 aged 69 years.

Green. This is an error in the Carpenter book. His name was James Green...
in one land grant he is referred to as Thomas Lewis James Green, but James is
what he referred to himself in his will. I have a copy of a picture of James
(his son-in-law was noted watercolorist Anthony Flower). They lived near the
Carpenters on Washdamoak Lake in New Brunswick and the Carpenter and Green
families later intermarried again... but not my line.

The incorrect info that has been sent to me and that I have seen posted on
the Internet showed Elizabeth Carpenter married (1) Havelock Mosher and (2)
James Green, and had three children with Mosher - Berton, Kenneth and Sara,
which makes me very ancient indeed.

As far as my New Brunswick ancestors go, I have copies of the microfilmed
original documents that I ordered from the Provincial Archives of New
Brunswick; i.e. an 1811 petition for land where James Green stated his age
and the PANB record (Loyalist documents) stating that Elizabeth Green
(Elizabeth Carpenter) was still alive in 1845. Luckily for descendants of
Elizabeth (Carpenter) Green and James Green, one of their daughters, Mary,
married Anthony Flower who painted many pictures of family and friends in
the early to later part of the 1800s. I found a baptismal record on a GenWeb
site for their youngest daughter Catherine Green that described her as "Black
adult born 4 Oct 1802". I was smitten with the idea that I could be a
"sista"HIPS Firewall enforcing packet but decided I'd better check it out. I contacted the transcriber who
sent me a jpeg of the document. I replied that it looked to me like it was
the father's occupation of Blacksmith and he agreed.

I realize the huge importance of documentation. Two of my female ancestors
married to Moshers were Mayflower descendants and though the GSMD is very
strict about documentation, as they should be, I currently have membership
in the Society as a descendant of four heads of families. Finding
documentation to prove my Margaret Ann Pineo's descent from Miles Standish
and Henry Samson has proven to be much more difficult! But that's one of the
most challenging and enjoyable parts of genealogy.

That yours is the Widow of James Green who served as Sergent Major in the
Kings American Regmt under Col. Fannen during the Revolutionary War that she
with her Husband came to this Country with the Loyalist that she is now
Living with her Son in Law upon his Affectionate Bounty that she is Eighty
Years of Age and trusts that the Liberality of the Legeslature will extend
to her the Bounty that they have generosly extended to persons in her
situation she begs leave Respectfuly to refer the truth of her Pettion to
the Addedaved annexed And your petitioner in duty bound will ever pray

d. Apple River, N.S., May 9, of inflammation of the lungs, Margaret GREEN
w/o late Charles GREEN, age 69 years. Sister Green was converted about two
years ago and was baptized by Rev. W.H. Jenkins. She leaves six children.

their sister. Father most likely Willett.

DEATH:
Died at North Harpersfield, Delaware county, NY at the home of her
daughter, Anna. Buried on the old Homestead there.
