Bio:
Mrs. Sarah C. Carpenter, Champaign, died.Sarah Cleveland was born in Schenectady county, N.Y., May 11, 1809. When quite young she removed to Cincinnati, thence to Delaware County, Ohio, where she, at the age of 21 was married to D. C. Carpenter, who survives her at the ripe age of 81. They removed in 1864, to Bloomington, Ill., where they resided for nine years, then came to Champaign, where they have resided ever since. husband, and the following children: T. C. Carpenter, of Sedalia, Mo., W. S. Carpenter of Champaign, C. D. Carpenter of Fort Scott, Kan., and Mrs. M. C. Pierson, of Champaign. She was a most devoted woman to her husband, home and children. She spent her whole life in the exercise of those domestic virtues that command the respect and love of all. She was graciously permitted to live to see her family all settled, prosperous and happy. She goes to her reward with the consciousness of having been deserved, below as wife and mother, and highly respected by all who knew her.Newspaper and date unknown

I post this here about once a year for the new researchers.
I'm searching for John Carpenter born about 1802 in New York
Died about 1870-72 in Iowa? I found John last in the Jasper County, Iowa 1870 census. (Independence TWP.)
I have never been able to find John's Parents or his Wife.
John had two children that I know of. Dennis Carpenter born 1832 in Fayette County, IN. and his sister Jane Carpenter born 1837 in Fayette County, IN.
The family moved to Scott County, Iowa around 1840-45?
Dennis married Lucinda Porter.
Jane was a School Teacher last found in Scott County census records.
Dennis and Lucinda moved to Cedar County, Iowa then to Guthrie County Iowa then off to Box Butte, Nebraska.MARRIAGE: abt 1824 - need

Iowa was a territory in 1838 and became a state in 1846. But 1837 to 1840 it was part of the Wisconsin territory. Then in 1840 to about 1843 it was part of the Michigan territory. It then formed its own territorial government in 1843 in preperation for statehood.
Scott County was created in 1837 from Wisconsin Territory. And later became part of Iowa.CENSUS: 1840 US Census
