Hezekiah Cole
Birth: 1795 Woodstock, Windham County, Connecticut, USA
Death: 24 Dec 1847 (aged 51–52) Oak Grove, Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA
Burial: Hyland Prairie Cemetery, Oak Grove, Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA
Memorial #: 32499451
Bio:
Mr. Hezekiah Cole, an old and highly respected farmer of Fairfield (Oak Grove), Dodge County, came to his death on Friday last, under the following painful circumstances: Mr. C. and his son, aged some 14 years, were drawing hay, with an ox team. They had loaded the sled, and Mr. C. having stooped down to fasten a chain attached to the forward end of the binder, accidentally hit one of the oxen, when he suddenly started, bringing one of the runners directly across Mr. C’s neck. The boy immediately stopped the oxen, and endeavored to back them up, but not succeeding, started them forward, the position of the runner remaining unchanged. When released by the runner, Mr. C. was quite dead, his neck having been broken and badly bruised. Mr. C. was formerly from West Charleston, VT. He was an uncle of the Messrs, Cole of this village. A wife and a large family of children mourn his shocking death.
