BOOK:
Andersonville Raiders
Yankee versus Yankee in the Civil War’s Most Notorious Prison Camp
by GARY MORGAN
It was the most witnessed execution in US history.

On the evening of July 11, 1864, six men were marched into Andersonville Prison, surrounded by a cordon of guards, the prison commandant, and a Roman Catholic priest. The six men were handed over to a small execution squad, and while more than 26,000 Union prisoners looked on, the six were executed by hanging. The six, part of a larger group known as the Raiders, were killed, not by their Rebel enemies but by their fellow prisoners, for the crimes of robbing and assaulting their own comrades.

Who were these six men? Were they really guilty of the crimes they were accused of? Were they really, as some prisoners alleged, murderers? What role did their Confederate captors play in their trial and execution? What brought about their downfall? Relying on military records, diaries, memoirs written within five years of the prison closing, and the recently discovered trial transcript, author Gary Morgan has discovered a version of events that is markedly different from the version told in later day “memoirs” and repeated in the history books. Here, for the first time in a century and a half, is the real story of the Andersonville Raiders.

WIKIPEDIA:
The Andersonville Raiders were a band of rogue soldiers incarcerated at the Confederate Andersonville Prison during the American Civil War. Led by their chieftains – Charles Curtis, John Sarsfield, Patrick Delaney, Teri Sullivan (aka "WR Rickson", according to other sources), William Collins, and Alvin T. Munn – these soldiers terrorized their fellow prisoners, stealing their possessions and sometimes even committing murder.

An internal force of soldiers with a policing role, called the "Regulators", was eventually formed to counter the Raiders' theft and violence. In the early summer of 1864, leading members were finally brought to trial. On July 11, 1864, six of the Raiders' leaders were hanged, concluding the group's control of the Confederate prison.
...
The group was centrally organized around its six most important members, known as the "chieftains": Charles Curtis, John Sarsfield, Patrick Delaney, Teri Sullivan (or W.R. Rickson, according to other sources), William Collins, and A. Munn.[9] According to Futch, each of the leaders had henchmen who were organized into groups named after the leaders, such as "Collins's Raiders" and "Curtis's Raiders".[10]
...
While most of the convicted Raiders received non-lethal punishments, six members, who were considered the group's leaders, were given the most severe punishment: death by hanging.

The six leaders – Sarsfield, Collins, Curtis, Delaney, Munn, and Sullivan[24] – were executed on July 11, 1864, on a set of gallows that was built that day.[25] On the way to the gallows, Curtis escaped from his rope ties and fled, but was caught by the police and returned to the gallows. Each man was given time to say some last words before he was hanged. Munn expressed great remorse for his acts and hoped that God would show him mercy; Collins pleaded for mercy from the crowd and claimed that he was innocent; and Sarsfield gave a long speech in which he, too, expressed some regret. Delaney and Curtis, however, showed no contrition; Delaney went so far as to say that he would "rather be hanged than live here [in Andersonville]".[26] All six were buried separately from the rest of those who died at the camp. Their execution marked the end of the Raiders' reign over Andersonville.

COMMENT:
Her father enlisted on 1 March 1863 and never returned home dying on 13 May 1864.  She could have been born about October 1863 but not likely in October 1865 by her claimed biological father. She may have wanted to be a little younger?

Carpenter, 67, was critically hurt and is at the Deaconess hospital Wednesday night after a team reportedly ran away with him in the morning at his home on Salem route three, south of Roberts Station.  He was treated by the first aid crew.  Carpenter's head was slashed from near one eye to behind the ear, but the attending physician said he would probably not lose the eye.  Carpenter said he did not know just what hit him to cause the injury.  Thomas Jones, Salem route five, walked into the first aid station at 4 p.m. for treatment after he cut off the tip of a finger with a scythe." Death of Daniel Cornwell, an Old and Respected Resident. This Morning.
Reader of The Times will be pained to learn of the death of Daniel Cornwell, of the firm of J. A. Cornwell & Son, occurred at 7:30 o'clock this morning at the family residence, corner of 10th and Van Buren streets. Mr. Cornwell had been ailing most of the summer. Storms wrecked them and he came to Bay City to start life anew. He opened a grocery store at the corner of Third and Monroe streets which he successfully operated untit a few years ago when the store was removed to the present quarters on Washington avenue. Mr. Cornwell leaves a wife, two daughters and two sons.  The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the house.

Death: Mar. 26, 1863

Ziba was the son of Ashman Carpenter (abt 1805) and Susannah Allen (abt 1810) of New Jersey. He was married to Sarah Ann Bilby (1840-1928 NJ) on March 1 1856 in Mansfield Township, New Jersey. Sarah was the daughter of Abraham and Eliza Ann Bilby. Sarah remarried after Ziba's death to Charles Garey. Ziba and Sarah were the parents of~
~Lucy Carpenter Weber
Ziba served in the 15th Reg. Infantry Volunteers, Co. B during the Civil War. He died from typhoid fever. From November of 1862 until about May of 1863, White Oak Baptist Church became the center of an encampment of the Army of the Potomac. Around 20,000 soldiers of the VI Corps camped in the immediate area. At this time the church served as a military hospital. There is no record of Ziba's burial in a Civil War cemetery, so he must have been buried near the church when he died.
Note~Records show that 52 soldiers were known to be buried in the actual church cemetery. Some believe their remains were later moved to Fredericksburg National Cemetery.

NOTE: Willie Englemon is listed as a son.  This may indicate that this is Lebbeus's second marriage and that his wife had a son in a prior marriage. BUT that does not fit with Willie's parent births.  For all we know he was being watched at the Carpenter house that day.
