E-MAIL: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 From: "Eileen"
This is a little longer then I would normally send but I wrote this out for my
neice and nephew and thought someone might find a connection.
Your Grandparents:
HAROLD EDWIN GILLETTE b. 27 July 1914 Nichols, New York d. 12 Jan 1975 Concord,
California Buried plot 271 # 8 or 10 Memory Gardens, Concord, CA
Grandpa had 6 other brothers and sisters. Norman Edward "Fat" married Ella Lila
Bixby (Ella is still alive back in Greene, we write
back and forth all the time), Byron Leroy "Barney" married Esther Bell,
Reginald Nicholas "Nick" married Irene, Charles Kenneth
married Catherine Virginia Saracino, Florence A. (prob Anna) married Harold T.
Troy, Luella M (Prob May) "Lollie" married Raymond
W. Ingraham.  Catherine is still alive.  Norman, Charles and Reggie are buried
at Sylvan Lawn in Greene as are Luella and I believe
Raymond. I have over 100 more names for the Ingraham side.
MARGOT HELENE SCHNEIDER  b. 21 Aug 1926 Pienne by Hanover, Germany
came to the United States with your Mom in 1948.  The plane that they were
suppose to be on crashed and all were killed.
Your Mom's passport was messed up so they missed the illfated flight. Died 5
Mar 2000 Marshall Hospital Placerville, CA at
1:42 P.M. All her children and Megan were present.
Margot has one 1/2 sister Biota, and 5 full siblings, Sigismund "Pete, Wolf
Deiter, Hans (still alive, lives in Concord and works
at Tosco last we knew) Freidhelm "Friedel", and Helga.  I believe Wolf Deiter,
Biota and Helga are still living.  Hans married
Grandpa Harold's sister Lollie and Raymond's daughter, Barbara Jean Ingraham,
they later were divorced.

his death Ralph was living at the Sherwood Hotel on Genesee Street in Greene so
I'm not sure why he was in Scranton.  He was
a sign painter and a builder.  He and his brother Oscar Raymond Gillette bought
the movie theater in Greene in 1916. They moved
from Nichols to Greene in 1917.  Later Ralph bought out Oscar and was sole
owner with his wife.  He owned it until his wife's death
in 1933. Even after he sold it he continued to operate it for many years.

stand at the movie theater.
(Margot's Parents)
WILHELM SCHNEIDER b. 9 Nov 1903 Nobody knows when he died as he never returned
from WWII.  He was a high ranking officer

in the early to mid 40's.
ANNELIESE "OMI" MEHLER b. 13 May 1901 Pienne by Hanover Germany d. Dec 1972
Antioch,CA  your Mom knows where in
the bay area she is buried, I'll have to ask her

10750. Ebenezer Carpenter

E-MAIL: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 From: JRobison2@aol.com
George Bradford Carpenter grew up in the rural -industrial village of
Potter Hill in Westerly, Rhode Island.  The Carpenter family was prominent
very early in Rhode Island history. Although a number of genealogies trace
the family history , none of them mention the forebears of George B,
Carpenter. As he states, his grandfather was Ebenezer Carpenter. Apparently  Ebenezer  was one of the sons of Benjamin and Abigail Carpenter. Benjamin
Carpenter resided in Hopkinton in 1820,and the census of that year indicates
that he had two sons between the ages of ten and sixteen.
Ebenezer Carpenter  first appeared in the census of 1830. In that year
Ebenezer (twenty to thirty years old) lived in the town of Richmond with his
wife , Ruth A. (Sheldon) Carpenter, and their three daughters (all under the
age of five years).  The census indicates they had no male children at this
time.  The 1840 census makes no mention at all of Ebenezer  and his family.
They may have been boarding in another household, as it was common that one
family would board with another.
From al indications, it would seem that George B. Carpenter was the
illegitimate son of one of Ebenezer's daughters (Probably Frances).  Although
Carpenter never admitted or even suggested this fact, his narrative tends to
confirm it.  he made no mention of his father; rather he discussed only his
mother and grandfather.  Additionally, his mother became pregnant at a very
young age. Although being fourteen and pregnant does not necessarily preclude
the possibility of  marriage, it does indicate that the circumstances were
probably atypical.  This evidence , together with some additional information
supports the  idea that Carpenter had no legitimate father. "
...... After his mother's death, there seems to have been no relative willing
or able to take Carpenter in.  No father came forward to care for him.  His
aunts probably lacked the means to support him, as they were all young women,
no more than twenty years old.  Francis Carpenter, undoubtedly  another
relative , did not take the boy either, though he himself lived in the Potter
hill area.   Consequently  George Carpenter found himself living in the home
of the Thomas W. Potter family.... "
Additionally:
The Westerly Sun -- ca. May 1914.
"...George Bradford Carpenter was born in Westerly, November 8, 1842, and was
taken into the Potter family at Potter Hill, his father having been killed in
the winter of 1847 while engaged in taking down the frame of the Potter Hill
mill which had been burned..."

Frances Carpenter

Frances Carpenter was the daughter of Ebenezer Carpenter.  This may be a case
of incest or Marriage records suggest that someone named Ebenezer Carpenter
married Frances, probably for convenience and to "give the child a
rightful name."
