In 1900 he lived in Swanzey, New Hampshire with his wife and 3 children.  He was a box maker.  In 1909 he was a teamster in West Swanzey.  In 1910 he and his family lived in Guilford, Vermont where he worked out as a farm laborer.  In 1920 he and his family lived in Brattleboro, Vermont where he worked in a toy factory.  In 1930, widowed, he was a laborer working on the highway in Brattleboro.  In 1940 he lived with his son Chester and wife.

In 1950 he lived in Brattleboro with his divorced daughter Cora Bedard, her family and his daughter Ida Akley, separated from her husband.

She married Fred William Akley on 9 Mar 1941 in Brattleboro, Vermont.  Their marriage record calls him a Private in the US Army.  They were separated before 1950 and later divorced, whereupon she resumed the use of her maiden surname.

In 1950 the census counted her as Ida B. Akley, separated.  She lived in Brattleboro in the home of her divorced sister Cora Bedard, her family and their elderly father.  She worked in a wooden heel factory.

She died in Brattleboro Memorial Hospital of a pulmonary hemorrhage at the age of 60.

Fred W. Akley, 49, of Grafton, a native of Brattleboro, Vt. died yesterday at Samaritan Hospital following a long illness.

He was the son of the late Everett and Minnie Butterflied Akley of Brattleboro. He had re sided in the Grafton area the last 12 years.

He served in the Army before World War I. He is survived by his wife the former Bertha Babcock, two sisters Mrs. Henry Davidson of Brattleboro, and Mrs. Frank Schuraacker of Connecticut, three brothers, Everett, Oscar and Mike Akley all of Brattleboro.

The funeral will be Sunday a: 2 p.m. from Grafton Methodist Church. Rev. Richard W. Meller up, pastor of Grafton Methodist! Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mapletown Cemetery, Hoosick, NY..

She had a stroke and was in a nursing home prior to her death.

Vernal married Carol Lamphier and had three children - names unknown.
Both of them died in an automobile accident.

Vernal ran away at age 15 to fight with Pancho Villa in Mexico and returned
home with a car (first to be owned by the family) and a story.
He had been shot through his cheek and the bullet exited behind his ear.  He
was then left for dead until someone heard breathing in the Morgue and saw "the
steam of breath" rising in the cold room.
