Reverend DeWitt Maynard Carpenter was the third of five children born to Blockville natives Reuben Jason Carpenter and Mary Caroline Smith.
DeWitt entered into holy matrimony with Viola Lucille Pilling, the lovely daughter of Henry (Berry, England) and Emma Stillson (Pennsylvania), on July 16, 1877 in Nathan's Run, Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania.
They were blessed with two children, Rollin Jason and Clyde DeWitt Carpenter.

I've been told that the Rev. De Witt Carpenter wrote a several-page
document about the history of the Carpenters that also included some
information about one of the Carpenter reunions held in Chautauqua
County New York in the late 1800s. Are you familiar with this document?

research is a work in progress and isn't complete enough to have much

Viola was a daughter of Henry & Emma Pilling.  One record says there were wed
at Matthews Run.  She had three sisters and a brother; Sarah, Martha, Ellen
Pearl, Etta & Edmond.  A niece note (re D. Carpenter) records that Viola had
one of the sweetest voices ever heard, but refused to study opera, even with
her exquisite purity and good range; she said she would use her voice only for
the Lord.  Her gravestone was in good condition in 1966.

Number 529-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Andrew recorded that he and his family resided on a farm on Brown's Hill
between Sugar Grove and Youngsville, PA and, after wife Katie died, moved to
Warren, PA., where he remarried.  One record gives his death as in 1938. Two
others give 15 April 1939.   Interred in section 34 of the Oakland Cemetery.

Number 547-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Orrin was a farmer at Turin and one of the pioneer cheese manufactures in the
north.  He managed the Carpenter Cheese Company at Turin more than twenty
years, was a school trustee, and a member of the Turin Lodge of A.F. & A.M.
#184.  Orrin was executor of his grandfather Timothy's will.
