MARRIAGE: 1940
Loraine Korback and William Carpenter Wed Last Wednesday
The Weekly Home News, Spring Green, Wisconsin
Thursday, October 17, 1940
One of the largest weddings to take place in this community for some time occurred Saturday, October 12th, at 9:30
a.m. at St. John’s church when Loraine Korback was united in marriage to Wm. G. Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Carpenter of Spring Green. Miss Korback, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Korback, also of Spring Green,
was given in marriage by her father.
Solemn Nuptial Mass was read by the Rev. Jos. Flad, Celebrant; assisted by Rev. Fr. McDonnell, as Deacon of
Mineral Point, and Rev. Fr. Sheridan of Darlington as Sub-Deacon.
The bride was attired in a white satin princess style gown with train and lace fingertip veil. Alice Korback, sister of
the bride, as bridesmaid, wore an old rose taffeta with blue lace headdress. Her other two sisters, Angeline and
Kathleen, maids of honor, wore blue net gowns trimmed with lace, with lace dubonnet face veils.
Little Carol Olson, niece of the groom, was flower girl dressed in white satin carrying a basket of flowers.
The groom had his brother, Theodore Carpenter of Freeport, Illinois, as best man. The ushers were Lawrence
Korback and Merton Prouty.
After the ceremony about seventy-five near relatives partook of a bountiful wedding breakfast served in the church
dining room. The room and tables were appropriately decorated with red, white and blue in observance of Columbus
Day. In the afternoon, a reception was held at the home of the bride for relatives and friends. The honored couple
received many useful and beautiful gifts.
Mrs. Carpenter graduated from the local high school in 1934 and from Platteville State Teachers College in 1938.
For the past three years she has been a successful teacher in the Lone Rock high school.
Mr. Carpenter also graduated from the local high school in 1934 and from Whitewater State Teachers College in
1938 and attended North Western University.
Those from away who attended the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Korback, Greenwood, Wisconsin; Theresa
Korback, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Cowing, sons Clarence and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Voss of North
Freedom; Mrs. Martha Ward, Reedsburg; Mrs. Orion Aiken and Harold Aiken of Platteville and a number of friends
from Lone Rock.
Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter will make their home in La Crosse where Mr. Carpenter is Commercial teacher…OBIT:
