VISITATION will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Howard Eugene Mount, son of Orlan and Virginia (Morrison) Mount, was born on September 11, 1949, and died on March 28, 2015, at the age of 65. He was the husband of Carol for 46 years; the father of Lynn, Laura, and Tim; and the grandfather of Savannah and Henry.

Howard was a farmer – a steady, confident presence on his farm in Appleton City for over 40 years. After graduating from Appleton City High School in 1967, Howard enrolled in the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa and became a licensed aircraft mechanic. He married Carol, his high school sweetheart, in 1969, and they moved to Springfield, Illinois, where he worked as a Capital Aviation aircraft mechanic. In 1973, Howard returned to farm the land of his parents, and then some, raising beef cattle and growing row crops. One of his favorite views was an aerial view of his land, a patchwork of his life’s work.

Howard was a member of First Baptist Church in Appleton City, a former member of Harmony Baptist Church in rural Appleton City, an Appleton City school board member for 6 years, a member of the Farm Service Agency County Committee for 4 years, and President of the Harmony Cemetery Association for over 30 years.

Howard was actively involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, attending their plays, concerts, operas and their basketball, volleyball, and football games. He took many trips with his wife, by car and sometimes by motorcycle, to state and national parks and other scenic locations, and he restored antique tractors and drove them in parades.

Howard and Carol had three children: Lynn Mount and wife Malia (Appleton City, MO), Laura Compton and husband Josh (Windsor, VT), and Tim Mount (Appleton City, MO). He had two grandchildren: Savannah Mount (Appleton City, MO) and Henry Compton (Windsor VT). He is survived by two sisters: Marge Beard and husband Kenny (Kansas City, MO) and Sandra Callahan and husband George (Montrose, MO), and three brothers-in-law: James Garrison and wife Joan (Lowry City, MO), Eddie Garrison and wife Connie (Topeka, KS), and Roger Garrison and wife Kay (Rockville, MO), and several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his father and mother.
