Perry was the son of Ira and Sarah (Buck) Carpenter.  He married Minnie Reid of Chatham, Ontario, on 22 June 1903 in Huron County, MI.  The couple lived in Huron Township where they had a small farm, and they had five children, Edmund, Mabel, Ella, Clara Matilda, and Earl.
