Descendants of William Carpenters of the Bevis (1638) Carpenter Cousins Encyclopedia of Carpenters - 2023 Update

Notes

36301. Flora Adair Carpenter

AFN DXV8-PQ (Flora Carpenter) and RNC1-H1 (Flora) are the same person but
for this John Andrew Carpenter. The Flora Carpenter listed for John Andrew
Carpenter son of "Buck" Carpenter is in error.
The correct Flora Adair Carpenter is listed as a spouse for John Andrew
Carpenter, son of Creed Carpenter, grandson of "Buck". Flora is a daughter of
Albert Carpenter, and granddaughter of "Buck."

More About FLORA ADAIR CARPENTER:  (Per Carolyn W. Spence of Trinity, NC)
Fact 1: Nanalee Wrenn has marriage license.

There is a William Carpenter D. 23-July-1917, age 2years 4months, who
may have been one of their children also.

John Andrew Carpenter

NOTE: John Andrew and Flora were 1st. cousins. His father, Creed Carpenter,
and her father, Albert Carpenter, were brothers. This was not uncommon in
that period of time.

36309. Mary Ellen Willey

Notes for MARY ELLEN WILLEY:
As told to Carolyn B. Elliott by her mother Della Willey Burcham:
Mary's mother Martha J. did not teach Mary how to cook, or houseclean or any
ladies work.  Mary then had 5 brothers to defend herself from and grew up sort
of as a tomboy.  She was very independant.
She owned a rifle and knew how to use it.  This rifle is probably in the
posession of Larry Dean Willey of Ridgeway VA.

36310. Andrew John "Andy" Willey

Known as ANDY WILLEY:
This Andy is Thomas & Martha Willey's son.   I was told by Ethel Burcham Willey
that Andy had only one leg, probably lost in an accident. On a trip to the
Independence Courthouse, we found his marriage license and he married his first
cousin Ettie Hudson, who was the daughter of Wiley & Adeline Willey Hudson.
I have a picture of Andy Willey and his wife Etta, as told to me, to be Walter
Bailey Willey's favorite Uncle.
We have heard of someone recently who recalled hearing of a "Peg Leg" Willey,
who worked for  a Mr. Reece Hale, in Grayson County, and this "Peg Leg" was
excellent in carpentry, which was his profession.
(Walter Bailey Willey was known to be a excellent carpenter too, although he
was not a professional, so therefore I assume someone taught him.  Probably his
favorite Uncle Andy. )
Andy died in 1920 at 34 years old and is buried at the Rock Creek Primitive
Baptist Church, just East of Independence, VA.  Also buried there is Bessy
Willey who was Andy & Etta's daughter, who died as a baby.  I don't know if
there were other children.
More About ANDREW J. WILLEY:
Fact 1: buried at Rock Creek Prim. Baptist Church

FSFTID:  L6Q7-FXB

CENSUS: 1870 US Census - NOT LISTED with father and step-mother
Is FS Thomas Lee? IE Are they one and the same?
MAYBE - the 1870 US Census image does not show T.S. - it clearly shows a F. L.
Yes, there is a crossbar on the F. where as the T should not have a crossbar.  Later census records does not show a T.S. but a Thomas Lee.  Then there is a question of sex. In 1870 the sex is female. But Thomas Lee, is clearly a male.
Question:  Was Thomas Lee adopted or a nephew?  At age 9 he should be with his family.
