The Athens Times, Thursday, May 15, 1924.  Base Ball Cripples Two of Bauer Family.  Leo Bauer and Geo. Forward arrived here a few days ago from Chicago to spend a week at the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Bauer, but Leo is destined to remain considerably longer, for on Sunday, while playing catch, he jumped for the ball and in falling broke both bones of his right leg below the knee. The sign must have been wrong for members of the Bauer family, for Leo's cousin, Lester E. Bauer, a medical student at the U. of M., is carrying his right hand in splints, as the result of having his fingers broken while playing catch at the Alpha Kappa Kappa fraternity house.  The first ball he attempted to catch evidently had the "stuff" behind it, for this was the one that winged him.
