Gladyes Margarett Carpenter. 74, of Prickett's Creek Road, died Thursday (April 4, 1996) in her home after a long illness.She was born June 26, 1921, in Catawba, Marion County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rosetta Summers Kisner.
Her husband, Wayne Carpenter, preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1990.She was a homemaker and was Methodist by faith.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Jean Carpenter, Gary and Janis Carpenter, Vernon and Belinda Carpenter, Charles and Freda Carpenter, and Walter and Linda Carpenter, all of Fairmont; four daughters and sons-in-law, Florence and John Sanders of Shinnston, and Sylvia and Clyde VanGilder, Gladyes and John Stanley, and Rose and Mike Heston, all of Fairmont; two sisters, Mrs. Willie (Rose) Slider of Smithtown and Mrs. Norman (Pauline) Desmuke of Fairmont; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Two brothers, George Kisner and John Kisner, are deceased. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Shaffer and Ruby Kisner.
Friends may call at the Frey Home for Funerals today from 4-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Services will follow in the funeral home Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Whoolery officiating. Burial will be at the Bunner Ridge Cemetery.
She was also survIved by ~ 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchlldren and one great-grear-grand-child. She was also preceded in death by a daughter. Clara Rager. [Names omitted]
Funeral services were Saturday (April 6, 1996) and burial was at the Bunner Ridge Cemetery The Frey Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.

Bio: Robert Allen Boyce, 73, of Fairmont passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 a Fairmont Regional Medical Center following a long illness.He was born in Fairmont on November 18, 1942 a son of the late Earl Boyce and Goldie Carpenter Travis Boyce.
Robert worked at various jobs through his life including: Rogers and Imes Roofing, Mt. Zion Nursey, Kettering Bakery and Estel's Furnace Service. He was a Christian by Faith, was Baptized and had attended the Samaria Church. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.He is survived by five sons, Adam Boyce, Bobby Boyce, Doug Boyce, Ricky Boyce and Billy Boyce all of Fairmont; two daughters, Brenda Hunter and Nora White, both of Fairmont; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Alma Gower of Scottown, Ohio and Anna Estel of Fairmont and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife and the mother of his children, Sue Merrill; all his brothers, Willard Boyce, George Travis, Norman Boyce, Ervin Boyce, Amos Boyce and five of his sisters, Ruby Satterfield, Lauraine Liller, Audry Mae Boyce, Pearl Boyce and Edith Adams.
Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Thursday from 9 am to 11 am. The funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Shepherd officiating. Interment will be private at the Meadowdale Cemetery.

Ronald Jacklen Merrill, 73, of Farmington, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at his residence. He was born May 10, 1946 in Fairmont, a son of the late William and Emma Carpenter Merrill.Ronald was a mechanic for General Delivery in Fairmont, retiring with 30 years of service. After retiring, he then worked at Mt. State Metals. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps, and a member of the West Farmington United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee. He loved to sing, enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and the ocean. Most of all he enjoyed and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie Haught Merrill; a daughter: Melissa Merrill, Farmington; a sister: Diane (Gary) Hovatter, AL; 3 brothers: Larry (Tammy) Merrill, Fairmont, Dale Merrill and Rex (Nancy) Merrill, all of Farmington; a sister-in-law: Sheila Merrill, Metz; former sister-in-law: Sharon Merrill, Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Sue Boyce and Annabell White; and 3 brothers: Roger, Ricky, and Steve Merrill.

He was born in Fairmont on December 7, 1947 to the late William "Bill" and Emma Virginia (Carpenter) Merrill. Rodger, a proud Marine who served his country during the Vietnam War, was a National Hot Rod Association enthusiast. Rodger is survived by his sister, Diann Hovatter and her husband Gary, of Ozark, Alabama; his brothers, Ronnie Merrill and his wife Nettie, of Farmington, Larry Merrill and his wife Tammy, of Fairmont, Ivan "Dale" Merrill of Farmington, Rex Merrill and his wife Nancy, of Farmington. He is also survived by Sheila Merrill, his sister-in-law and wife of his late brother, Steve Merrill; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rodger was also preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Merrill and Ricky Merrill; and sisters, Annabelle (Merrill) White and Sue (Merrill) Boyce. Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home 209 Merchant Street from 11am to 1pm Friday. The funeral service will 1:00pm Friday, March 3, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor David Markley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Steven Douglas Merrill, Sr., 59, of Glover’s Gap, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born September 17, 1957 in Fairmont, a son of the late William and Emma (Carpenter) Merrill.
Steve was a driver for the Fairmont Marion County Transit Authority, and was previously a driver for Marion County Head Start for 31 years. He enjoyed spending times with his family, hunting and working outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Lemley Merrill, whom he has been with for 39 years; his daughter, Stephanie Merrill; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Justina Merrill, all of Glover’s Gap; his grandchildren, his love for which was indescribable: Ethan, Jacob and Alivia Merrill and Aaliyah Merrill; his siblings: Diann and Gary Hovatter, AL, Larry Merrill, Sr., Fairmont, Rex and Nancy Merrill, Ron and Nettie Merrill, all of Farmington, Rodger Merrill, OH, and Dale Merrill, Farmington; several nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces; as well as his “adopted” family: the Pethtels of Glover’s Gap.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son: William Carl Merrill; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Chester and Mary (Fluharty) Lemley; 2 sisters: Sue Boyce and Annabell White; and a brother: Ricky Merrill.
Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Mannington, on Saturday from 1-4 & 7-9 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will be in the Cunningham Memorial Gardens at Burton. The family would like to thank Fairmont Regional and Monongalia General Hospitals for their efforts and the FMCTA for their aide.

She was a homemaker and mother. She graduated from East Fairmont High School.
Marjorie is survived by her children, her son, Greg Yerace of Fairmont and her daughter, Linda Bond also of Fairmont; her grandchildren, Bryan Bond, Gregory Yerace and Gabrielle Yerace; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin V. Carpenter; two sisters, Marion Hazel Carpenter in infancy and Mary Linger; a son-in-law, Alan Bond; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bio: Herman David "Buck" Carpenter, 83, of Bunner Ridge Community, Fairmont, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Center in Morgantown following an extended illness. He was born in Marion County on March 18, 1931, a son of the late Clyde Anson and Bessie May (Lake) Carpenter. Buck proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by three sisters, Wilda Lucille Brady of Fairmont, Doris A. Carpenter and her husband Walter of Fairmont and Audra V. Heston of Clayton, NC, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Robe Carpenter and Doris Robe Carpenter as well as several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, June Robe and Vivian Coombs, four brothers, Rev. Glen Carpenter, Willis Carpenter, Leslie Carpenter and Wayman Carpenter and three brothers-in-law, Phillip Coombs, Arnold Brady and James Heston. Interment will be at Pride Cemetery in Marion County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Carpenter and Ford funeral home obitMay 2014

Clara Virginia Chapple, 87, of Rivesville, passed away Sunday (Aug. 30, 2009) at Fairmont General Hospital surrounded by her family.She was born in Monongah on Dec. 28, 1921, one of nine children born to the late James "Monk" Carpenter and Dora Mae Shupp Carpenter.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl William Chapple, in 1954. Mrs. Chapple retired as manager of the Fashion Bug at the Middletown Mall. Prior to that she was manager of Ormonds Shop in Downtown Fairmont. She had also worked at Lipson's Jewelers.She graduated from the West Virginia Business College. She was a member of Highlawn United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Fairmont Chapter No. 34. Clara was an avid sports fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Steelers and West Virginia University sports.Clara had a full life and was a devoted homemaker, loving mother and loving grandmother. She was especially proud of her large family. She enjoyed her work and meeting and serving the public.She is survived by her sons, Carl W. Chapple Jr. and his wife Roberta Paulette of Barrackville and Pastor Richard D. Chapple and his wife Josielea of Pine Grove; a brother, Victor Carpenter and his wife Elizabeth of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Gantle of Point Marion, Pa., Shirley Clelland and her husband Herb of Fairview, and Sally Westfall and her husband Cecil of Minerva, Ohio; her very special grandchildren and their spouses, Carlena Jo Chapple-Brooks and her husband Bill of Mont Clair, Va., Jennifer Lynn Huey and her husband Mike of Mannington, Melanee Morgan and her husband Paul of Fairmont, Richard D. Chapple Jr. and his wife Joanne of Pine Grove and Jayne Chapple-Kirk and her husband Randy of Morgantown; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary McNunis, Matilda Ash and Doris Gorby; and a brother, Earnest Lee Carpenter.Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Chapter No. 34 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a ritualistic service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Richard D. Chapple officiating. Interment services will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.Clara's family would like to extend their appreciation to the Special Care Unit at Fairmont General Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
