STEPHEN HOLDEN, 2d.
AT the December Term of said Court, A, A. D. 1816, Abuel Carpenter, of Westminster, in the county of Windham, commenced his action in a plea of the case, against Stephen Hollen, ad of Westminster, aforesaid, demanding ninety Dollars damages. The said Holden not having had personal notice of said action, the same was by order of Court, continued until this present Term. And now the said Holden not appearing-it is ordered by the Court, that the ;aid action be further continued until December Term next-and that the said Holden be notified of the pendency of the same, by publishing the substance thereof, and order of Court thereon, three weeks successively in the American Yeoman, printed at Brattleborough, in the county aforesaid, the last publication of which to be at least four weeks before the session of said Court, to be holden at New-Fane, in the county aforesaid, on the second Monday of December next-which will be deemed sixth-' dent notice to the said Holden to appear and defend in said action.

I am working on the Carpenter family migration to Stanstead, Lower Canada. I found the 1825 census that has the Amos Carpenter household with a male over 60, female over 45 (that is the most senior age category provided) and a child under 14 (no idea - could be servant or grandchild).
I did find a South Hadley, MA birth listing for John Lane's children and now have a definitive date for Elizabeth "Betsey" Lane (06 Oct 1762). I am furnishing this document now and will also send along other docs as I flesh this generation out for my DAR supplemental application. Uncle Cliff (Harry Carpenter) would be so proud.

Stanstead is a township municipality of about 1,000 people in the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec. It is not to be confused with the city of Stanstead (founded 1995), which is nearby although not directly adjacent (the municipality of Ogden lies in between).
