Dorothy M. Sowatzke, age 95 passed away on December 30, 2023 in Oshkosh, WI, formerly of Wis. Rapids and Babcock, WI. Dorothy was born on August 31, 1928 to DeLos and Josephine Griswold in Daly, WI. She was the oldest of 3 children. She married Rolland (Ron) Sowatzke on September 4, 1954 and they shared 50+ years of marriage before Ron passed away in 2005.

Dorothy held a number of positions over the years. She worked at Port Edwards Mill in the office, Port Edwards High School as a secretary, as well as she and Ron had a root beer stand in Wisconsin Rapids.

In later years, Ron owned Ron's Studio (Photography) in Wisconsin Rapids and Dorothy was instrumental in the business, either in the office or taking wedding photos. After the business closed they moved to Babcock where they built their retirement home.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Lynn (Michael) Coe of Omro, WI, granddaughter Nicole Nishida of Oshkosh, WI, her sister Darlene Coldwell of Wausau, WI, and nephews Jay (Donna) Coldwell of Wausau, WI, Jim (Sheri) Coldwell of Fall Creek, WI, Jon Coldwell of Manitowish Waters, WI, and a niece Kathy (Peter) McCain of Santa Monica, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ron Sowatzke, parents Josie and DeLos Griswold, and sister, Sharon Lindboe.

Cremation has been held. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Babcock Town Hall in Babcock, WI. and will take place on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by a luncheon.

Bio: Rolland "Ron" Sowatzke, 75, of Babcock, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Babcock Community Church. The Rev. Fred Krauss will officiate.

Ron was born March 7, 1930, in Milwaukee. He married Dorothy Griswold on Sept. 4, 1954, in Nekoosa.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Ron was a photographer who owned and operated Ron's Studio in Wisconsin Rapids for 20 years. He was formerly employed as a custodian for the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools and owned and operated Rich-O Drive In on 17th Avenue South and Gaynor Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids.

Ron was a member of the Babcock American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Babcock; one daughter, Lynn Nishida of Oshkosh; one granddaughter, Nicole Nishida of Longmont, Colo.; his mother, Esther Taylor of Seattle; his mother-in-law, Josie Griswold of Babcock; and one sister-in-law, Darlene (Edward) Coldwell of Wausau. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home of Nekoosa is assisting the family.
