Funeral Services for Warren Carpenter, 73, of Brooklyn, were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, in the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn.
Rev. Raymond D. Moore, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn.
The Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Warren Eugene Carpenter, son of Forrest Dean Carpenter and Pearl Fredricka Roudabush Carpenter, was born March 15, 1914, in Malcom, Iowa, and died Thursday, July 16, 1987, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.
Mr. Carpenter received his education in Brooklyn graduating from high school in 1932. He served with the US Army during World War II. In 1940 he became the owner and operator of Carpenter Feed & Seed in Brooklyn retiring in 1973.
Mr. Carpenter was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Messer on March 6, 1938, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one son, Earl Eugene, and his wife, Arlene, of Barrington, Ill.; two daughters, Kathleen Kay, and her husband, George L. Schueppert of Barrington, Ill., and Carol Fae, and her husband, Dr. Randall Hanson, of Waukee, Iowa; two brothers, Dean of Coralville, Iowa, and Merrill, of Canon City, Colorado; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Warren.
Dean was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Malcom, the son of Forrest D. and Pearl Roudabush Carpenter. He graduated from Brooklyn, Iowa, High School in 1934. He moved to Coralville in 1940. Dean married Verna Cordes on Jan. 2, 1942, in Coralville. From 1942 to 1963, he managed Superior Oil & Gas Station in Coralville. In 1963, he and Verna opened Coral Fruit Market, which they owned until 1978. He continued to work there until retiring in 1988. Dean was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church and Coralville Morning Optimist Club.

She married Dean Carpenter on Jan. 2, 1942. She and her husband have resided in Coralville since then. They owned and operated Coral Fruit Market from 1963 to 1978. Dean died July 26, 1998.
She was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church.

Jessie Evelyn Waits Carpenter, 100, of Loveland, formerly of Canon City, Colorado, passed away October 15, 2015, 15 days shy of her 101st birthday.Evelyn was born to Robert Reason and Jessie Waits October 30, 1914, in Atchison County (Fairfax) Missouri. She was raised on a farm and rode a horse to school for 11 of the 12 years. Evelyn graduated from Irish Gove Consolidated High School (Fairfax) in 1932. After finishing high school, she took secretarial training in Lincoln, Nebraska and worked for the State Department of Vocational Education at the State Capitol before moving to Denver, Colorado. She was working for Caterpillar Tractor Company when she met Merrill Carpenter, who was from Iowa and in the Air Force stationed at Lowry Air Force Base.
Evelyn married Merrill Raymond Carpenter January 30, 1947, in Denver, Colorado. They had three children, Merrillyn Mae, Roger Wayne, and Rhonda Sue. Merrill served in the Air Force and they lived in various areas, including Colorado, Missouri, Germany, France, and California. After Merrill’s retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Aurora. Following her retirement from the University of Colorado School of Nursing and Merrill’s retirement from the U.S. Mint, they moved to Canon City, Colorado, where they had their fondest memories. They were active in the United Presbyterian Church, bowled on two Senior Bowling Leagues, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and at the Chamber of Commerce Tourist Cabins during summer months. They also enjoyed gardening and their animals. Sometime after Merrill’s death, Evelyn moved to Loveland, Colorado to be closer to her daughter. She spent the last six years of her life at Good Samaritan Society, Loveland Village, where she enjoyed the staff, her neighbors, the music, and the various activities.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, and two grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Lewis Waits and Melford Waits), her husband Merrill and her son Roger.
Graveside Services for Evelyn will be held Thursday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Janis Baltisberger 65 of Newton, Iowa, died at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.Janis Kay Suess was the daughter of George John and Juanita Madge Graham Suess. She was raised and educated in Davenport, Iowa and Toledo, Iowa respectively. She graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in Toledo with the class of 1965.
She was married to Jack Baltisberger on June 12, 1965, at St John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Benjamin, Rodney, Rebecca and Brian. They farmed near Malcom, Iowa and Janis was a housewife and homemaker. They divorced in 1985.
Janis knew no strangers and her laughter was contagious. She spent much of her life helping those in need. Her enjoyments included music and dancing, cooking and baking for others, shopping, and fellowship and socializing with her friends at the Senior Center in Newton.

McDERMOTT, Robert James
Born on September 12, 1925 to Lyle and Marguerite McDermott, Robert James McDermott passed away on January 29, 2012 at the age of 86 after a brief illness. He is survived by Doris (Carpenter), his wife of 61 years. He is also survived by two remaining brothers; his older brother Lyle Charles Jr. (Irene), and his younger brother Kenneth Eugene (Geraldine). A very proud father of four children. Charles and wife Michelle of Coeur d'Alene ID, James and wife Michelle of Sacramento CA, Paul and wife Susan of Phoenix AZ, and Cecelia McKnight and husband Ronald of Modesto CA. He was preceded by one grandson, Jon Michael Sanderson of San Diego, CA. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Shawn McDermott, Johnathon Mendonca, Nikki Gertsch, Joanna Gertsch, Mary-Lela Jones, Anthony Barajas Jr., Marisa Barajas, Emerald McDermott, Kelly Berry, Micah McDermott and Emma McKnight. He will also be greatly missed by 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Robert served in the U.S. Army-Air Corp. with the 97th bomber Group 342nd pantaloon from 1943 - 1946 in Italy during WWII as a left waist gunner in the B-17 flying fortress. He flew several missions against Hitler's Nazi Regime. Following military service he returned home to Boise, Idaho to work for Albertsons. He relocated to Sacramento, CA in 1952 to work for United Airlines in reservations and later transferred to Aero-Jet General Corporation as a Rocket Test Inspector. Before retiring in 1994, he had the honor of working on rocket engines and booster rockets that were used on the Apollo and Space Shuttle Missions.
A Honor Guard Memorial Service will be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, Post 1267 on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 3: pm which is located at 7576 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA. The family is going to Boise, ID in the late spring for his interment.
