Subject: #3086 Elizabeth Carpenter
I am not sure whether you are interested in any more information on Elizabeth. You note she married Charles Moses. Her grandson John C Lewis mentions her in letters he sent to a publication that focused on the Lewis surname. The publication was called, "The Lewis Letter" aka Lewisiana. He wrote four letters that were published. I transcribed them as follows (The reference to Elizabeth is in bold font):
-----------------
The Lewisiana or The Lewis Letter was published from 1893 to 1907 with some gaps in publication. It was edited by Carll Lewis in Elliot, Conn. It covers genealogical information for a wide range of families with the surname Lewis.

JOHN LEWIS, Holland to Mass.
CHAPTER I.
By John C. Lewis, Belmont Center, NY.
Friend Lewis: —
I am almost 70 years old, shall be the
20th of March. As I have but very little
written record the most I can tell you of
my early ancestors will be what I remem-
ber hearing my father tell when I was a
small boy. Up to the time I was 21 he
would set and talk whole evenings of his
father's family and of his old grandfather.
He would begin way down in the old Bay
state where his grandfather landed when
he came over from Holland and where he
himself was born and talk from there up
to Vermont, then over to York State to
the farm where I am now writing. My
great grandfather's name was John. He
and a brother David, with their families,
came over from the old country together
(I don't know when) and landed somewhere
on the shores of Mass. They remained
together only a few years when David (as
he said) pulled up stakes and moved with
his family into the western part of New
York. John never heard anything more
of David or any of his family.

3803. John Carpenter

NOTE:
Delaware County was created from Franklin County in 1808.

COMMENT:
Based on the 1810 US Census, it appears that his 1809 marriage is his second one.
In 1804 he is abt 20 and in 1800 he would have been abt age 16.
Bieng married at age 16 is NOT uncommon then, but usually it is with family support.
SO, if he was the John Carpenter listed in the 1800 US Census - reconstructed from the 1801 petition, then he likely was married and had a claim to land. And we should find a parent or older siblings there also.
In the mean time the child Salome should be considered suspect.
IN the 1810 Ohio Tax assesment (See 2 images at: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:76M5-WMZM), we find in Delaware and Franklin Counties;
Benjamin Carpenter  2 entries  Delaware County  Page 11

Why don't you post them here, online? If there is indifference to this material, that is sad.
Where did you come by such records?
I am trying to locate some records later than the index project:
Nelson English Rice born after 1894, English twp, Jersey Co, IL
Harvey Rice, his younger brother.
Gracy English, born 1875 in either McDonough or Jersey Co IL,
Juanita English, born after 1880, who supposedly married Phillip Wolf and next J W Murphy.
Eleanor Barber (1865-IL) and John Seth Carpenter (1860-IL)  <--------------------------------------------------
William Robert Barber or Joseph Levin Barber.
If you see these names, please let me know. Thank you.

Thank you.

GRAVE:  images
Lucy Carpenter Swinnerton
Birth: 21 Sep 1781 Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut, USA
Death: 11 May 1870 (aged 88) Elk Grove, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA
Burial: McNett East Cemetery, Elk Grove, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA
Memorial #: 103971669
Bio:
The subject of the above notice was born in Connecticut, in the year 1777, and moved with her father, Capt. Nathan Carpenter, to Delaware, Ohio, in the year 1801.  She was married in 1803, to James G. Swinnerton, and was 35 years old when the war of 1812 took place.
In 1818, she with her husband emigrated to Illinois and settled in Madison county at Milton, opposite St. Louis.  They were among the early pioneers of the state-the first to begin the work of transforming the then unbroken wilderness into the "garden of the west".  About the year 1820, they removed to Morgan County, near Jacksonville, where they lived until 1846, when they emigrated to Wisconsin.
Here they lived in Grant and LaFayette counties until 1864, when the husband died on the last day of the year at the advanced age of 80 years, having lived out the time allotted to man.
He was a soldier in the war of 1812 and was thoroughly loyal to his country to the day of his death.  The last time he ever went away from home was to cast his ballot for our murdered president.  He died firm in the faith of a speedy close of the war, and the final and complete restoration of the Union, and his only regret was that he could not live to see it.  Last Saturday, the 14th inst. , his wife was laid by his side.
They were the parents of six children, on two of whom live in this vicinity-Mrs. Elisha Richards of Elk Grove and Mrs. Truman P. Richards, of this city.  When the funeral services were terminated, the coffin was opened, a large concourse of relations, three generations-drew around for a last farewell look at "Grandmother"
Her face was calm and serene as the beautiful May day, on which she was buried, having died without disease or struggle.  After having lived in the world near a century, her life went out like a candle that had burned to the socket.
She was borne to her last resting place, a quiet nook in one of nature's most beautiful spots, in a shady grove, by the strong arms of grandsons and her place shall know her no more on earth forever.
Her body is consigned to the earth from whence it came, and her soul has returned to God who gave it.
Died, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Elisha Richards of Elk Grove, LaFayette Co., Wis, Thursday, May 11th at 11 o'clock P.M., Mrs. Lucy Swinnerton, in the 93rd year of her age.

CASE, GROVE, was born in Connecticut January 20, 1800. He was brought to Licking county, Ohio, in 1807, by his parents, Major Grove and Cinderilla Case, who settled in Granville, where they deceased. He died in 1836 or 7, aged fifty-six years. His wife survived him until January, 1867, aged eighty-seven years. Major Case built the well-known house in Granville, in which he kept hotel from 1810 until 1814 or 15. He served as major in the War of 1812; was at Fort Meigs when besieged. ship. He was the father of four children-three sons, born in Connecticut, viz: Grove, Norton and Jarvis; one daughter, Lucinda, born in Granville. All of the children are living, except Norton, who deceased in March, 1879. Mr. Case was reared a farmer, and has followed farming and stock-raising, as his vocation. He married Laura Carpenter, of Delaware county, Ohio, May 15, 1821; born October l0, 1797 ; daughter of Nathan Carpenter, a soldier of the War of 1776. They settled on North street, Granville township, Licking county, Ohio, on the farm now occupied by his grandson-in-law. He erected the residence, now in use, in which they lived for fifty-six years. In October, 1877, they moved on the farm where they are now living, which he had purchased in 1876. Their residence is a fine brick structure. They reared a family of three children: Lucius A. married Polly Rose, in 1844, daughter of Levi Rose, and he deceased July 3, 1866; Laura J. died at the age of seventeen years; Lucy C. married James Sennett, and died two years after her marriage.
