Michigan, residing in Battle Creek, occupation: truck driver, father: Robert Carpenter, mother: Virginia Lilly, and Sharon Lee Probst, age 16, b. Michigan, residing in Battle Creek, father: Frederick Probst, mother: Mary Matteson, officiant: John L. Francis, MG, witnesses:  Danny Sleeper and Betty Sleeper, both of Kalamazoo.  Neither had been married previously.

In May 1994 Gail was of Perry, KS according to his mother's obituary.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Battle Creek, MI, Thursday, May 29, 1997, p4A.  Darlene L. Ling.  Athens.  Darlene L. (Martin) Ling, 57, of Athens, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Battle Creek Health System.  She was born Sept. 30, 1939 in Battle Creek to Olen R. and Berneita (Maurer) Martin. She was a 1957 graduate of Athens High School and had lived in Athens most of her life.  She was employed by Delta Airlines in Chicago from 1957 to 1960. Since 1963 she had been employed by Athens Public Schools, serving the past 32 years as secretary to the high school principal.  She married Robert D. Ling on Oct. 18, 1973, in Athens.  He died in 1991.  She is survived by a son, Ronald A. Parlin of Athens; daughters, Carol L. Parlin of Chicago, Anita M. Riegle and Susan L. Luplow of Battle Creek; stepdaughters, Deborah K. Ling of Fla., and Dawn M. Schaff of Oregon, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Daryl Martin.

Darlene Loraine Martin's husband, Michael A. Parlin is a descendant of Thomas Jefferson Carpenter, while Darlene Loraine Martin is a descendant of Abner Loomis Carpenter.  Abner Loomis was the younger brother of Thomas Jefferson, both were sons of Calvin Loomis Carpenter and Eleanor D. Pierce.  Therefore Darlene and Michael were previously related.

Eldon Mitchell, age 21, born in East Leroy, Calhoun, MI, residing in East Leroy, son of Roe Mitchell and Opal Chichester, occupation: farmer; and Laura Seifke, age 18, born in Locust Point, OH, residing in Athens, daughter of Amil Seifke and Julia Blosie, married 28 Jul 1940 at Battle Creek by C. A. Rook, Pastor. Witnesses:  Leon Mitchell of East Leroy and Helen Seifke of Marshall.

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, June 16, 1990, p. 5C. Eldon R. Mitchell, 71, of 6823 2 1/2 Mile Road, died Wednesday, June 13, 1990, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, where he had been a patient since June 10. He has been ill since March.  Born in Leroy Twp., he had lived all his life in the home where he was born.  He was employed by United Steel and Wire , retiring in 1980.  He was a member and past president of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Square Dance Association and United Steel and Wire 25-Year Club, and a former member of Diamond Squares and Squaranders Square Dance Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Laura Siefke; sons, Eldon R., Jr., Maynard W. and Ronald L. Mitchell, all of East Leroy, and DavidE. Mitchell of Greenland, NH; a daughter, Laura J. Hopkins of Battle Creek; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Opal Mitchell of Athens; sisters, Marcelle Wank and Fern Bishop, both of Battle Creek, Mary Crowell of Athens; and brothers, Leon Mitchell of Battle Creek, Gordon Mitchell of Fulton and Franklin Mitchell of E. Leroy, MI.  Services Saturday at Shaw-Estes Funeral Home.


Warren Neal Wank

OBITUARY.  Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Sunday, January 24, 1999, p. 2B. Warren N. Wank, Battle Creek.  Warren Neal Wank, 83, of Battle Creek died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at home.  He was born May 19, 1915 in Fostoria, Ohio, to William A. and Alta L. (Kline) Wank. The family moved to Homer, then to Athens when he was a teenager, then to Battle Creek in 1952.  He was a 1935 graduate of Athens High School.  He was employed as a machinist by the Clark Equipment  for 34 1/2 years before he retired in 1974.  He married Florence M. Mitchell on Oct. 24, 1939, in Wauseon, Ohio.  She survives.  Also surviving are a daughter, Thedra K. Cook of Peachtree City, GA; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Mahanche of Athens and Erma Akers of Battle Creek; brothers, Raymond Wank of West Palm Beach, Fla., James, Willard and Melvin Wank, all of Battle Creek, Richard Wank of Augusta and Arthur Wank of Athens.  He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Charles Wank; a sister, Mary Mitchell, and a son, Larry W. Wank on January 16, 1982 (Larry's obituary was in the January 1983 Battle Creek newspaper).  Services: Monday at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Burial: Leroy Congregational Cem..
