Lawrence Evered Howe was raised in Keech, Potter County, Pennsylvania, a hamlet that has now disappeared. After a miraculous cure from an itinerant doctor, he determined to become a Chiropractor. He attended Universal Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. There he met a fellow Potter County resident, his future wife, Mable Jane Howe. Lawrence served in the army during World War I. After marriage, Lawrence and Mable went into practice, first in Potter County, later moving to New Cumberland, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, during the Great Depression. In 1958, Lawrence joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a result of diabetes, he eventually lost his sight and lost his left leg. He spent his last years in his house at 431 Bridge Street, New Cumberland.
The following is the wedding annuncement that appeared in the Potter County newspaper: Howe-Howe: Miss Mable Howe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Howe of North Bingham, Pennsylvania, and Lawrence E. Howe of Gold, Pennsylvania, were united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage in Olean, N.Y., by the Rev. Percival Lynch, Thursday, September 11, 1919. Miss Howe is a most pleasing and intellectual young lady, and a very successful chiropractor. Her many friends will be pleased to know that she will continue the practice of her profession here, where she has been located for the past two years. She will be assisted by her husband who is also a chiroprator, and a graduate of State College. Mr. Howe has recently returned from France where he has been serving Uncle Sam, and is a very highly respected young man.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

NOTE:
Miss Mable Howe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Howe of North Bingham, Pennsylvania, and Lawrence E. Howe of Gold, Pennsylvania.FSFTID # KWJH-KRF
Mable Jane Howe, like her husband, was cured of migraine by an itinerant doctor and decided to become a Chiropractor. While attending Universal Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, she met her future husband. Although they both came from Potter County, and grew up but a few miles from each other, and even had the same last name (though they were not related), they did not meet each other until similar circumstances brought them to Iowa. After her marriage to Lawrence, the two set up practice. They first practiced in Potter County, but during the Great Depression they relocated their practice to New Cumberland, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. In addition to helping with the practice, Mable also cared for her home and children. In 1958 she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was afflicted with Parkinson's disease during the last 15 years of her life. She lived at 431 Bridge Street under the care of her family and professional nurses, but in 1964 was moved to Kraley's Nursing Home in Shiremanstown where she remained until 1968 after which she was moved to Siedel Hospital in Mechanicsburg where she remained until her death.
Obituary: Dr. Mable Jane Howe, 78, of New Cumberland, died on Wednesday morning, Aug. 25, at Seidle Memorial Hispital in Mechanicsburg. She was a member of the Mormon Church of the Latter Day Saints, and a practicing chiropractor in New Cumberland. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert Greenawalt, of Mechanicsburg; Mrs. Sally Chamberlain, of San Antonio, Tex.; a son, Dr. Joseph W. Howe of Tallmadge, Ohio; a brother, Lavern B. Howe of Tennessee; a sister, Nina H. Clark, of Clearwater, Fla. Private funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home at 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, with Joseph Molaski officiating. Interment was in Rolling Green Cemetery.
