Bio:
Air Reservist and co-pilot of the C-46 transport plane which exploded in flames shortly after taking off from Myrtle Beach, S.C., killing all aboard. Captain Carpenter was a member of the CAA Control Tower at Palm Beach International Airport, where he was a traffic controller. A native of Coudersport, Pa., he served with the AAF in World War II at Morrison Field and Boca Raton, later going overseas as pilot of B25. He was shot down over France and served 22 months in a German prison camp. He was survived by his wife, young son, parents, and two brothers.

Mable E. Buck, 92, of Ulysses died Monday (July 2, 1989) in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born July 4, 1896, in Mills, the daughter of Arthur and Rosa Reed Evans. On April 2, 1917, in Ulysses, she married Lawrence Buck, who died in 1976. Mrs. Buck was a lifetime resident of Potter County. She was a 1916 graduate of Ulysses High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ulysses, where she had been organist for 27 years. She also taught piano in Ulysses for many years. She was a 70-year member of the Ulysses Grange, and a member of the HUG Senior Citizens. Mrs. Buck is survivved by six daughters, Mrs. Richard (Lois) Wilson and Jean Howe, both of Mansfield, Mrs. Lloyd (Grace) Kear and Mrs. Dexter (Gladys) Angood, both of Ulysses, Mrs. Louise Miller of Campbell, NY, and Mrs. Dorothy Erway of Coudersport; three sons, Roger L. Buck of Mansfield, Raymond E. Buck of Ulysses and Robert A. Buck of Gold; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Troup, pastor, officiating. Burial and committal services were held in Ulysses Cemetery.

He is a director of the Grange National Bank and a school director of Ulysses. He is a member of the Baptist Church, the Grange, Lewisville Lodge Number 556 F.&A.M., the County School Board and the Board of the Northern Tier Children’s Home. He married, April 2, 1917, Mabel Evans, daughter of Arthur and Rosa (Reed) Evans of Ulysses. She attended Boston Conservatory of Music. She is a member of the Baptist Church, the Grange and the Federated Women’s Club. They have nine children: (1) Lois (Buck) Wilson of Mansfield who graduated from Ulysses High School and attended Pennsylvania State College. She has one daughter, Sally Ann. (2) Grace (Buck) Kear of Harrison Valley who graduated from Ulysses High School and attended Mansfield State Teachers College. She has one daughter, Kay Frances. (3) Louise (Buck) Miller of Campbell, New York, who is a graduate of Ulysses High School and of Robert Packer Hospital of Sayre. She has two children, John and Jane. (4) Jean (Buck) Howe of Ulysses, a graduate of Ulysses High School and Mansfield State Teachers College. She has one daughter, Margery Jean. (5) Gladys (Buck) Angood of Bingham Center, a graduate of Ulysses High School. She has two children, Donna Joyce and Ronald Arlie. (6) Roger Lawrence of Ulysses who graduated from Ulysses High School in 1946. (7) Dorothy Anne, a student in Ulysses High School. (8) Raymond Eugene, a student in Ulysses High School. (9) Robert Armond, a student in the fifth grade in Ulysses School. Mrs. Buck’s hobby is music. Mr. Buck’s hobby is collecting stamps and coins.
