Charlotte Carpenter, 87, of Marietta, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Charlotte was born May 15, 1928 in Marietta to Clyde and Nellie {Carpenter} Forshey.

Charlotte will be deeply missed by her son George W. Carpenter Jr. and his wife Lina; son-in-law William King; grandchildren Michelle (Matt) Reed, Glenn (Michelle) Carpenter, Christopher (Jennifer) Carpenter, Jessica (Mike) Lucas, Bryan King, Evan King and Tiffany (Kevin) Thompson; 9 great grandchildren; sister Bessie Lang and many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Carpenter Sr.; daughters Debbie King and Tina McRea; granddaughter Amy McKenna; four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call Sunday, November 15th from 2 to 6 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-East Lawn Chapel, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Steve Thibault officiating. Entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Bio: Elmer Edward Carpenter, 74, of Marietta went home to be with his Lord Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his home.

He was born on June 6, 1940, in Marietta a son of Ralph Carpenter and Esther Addlesburger Carpenter.

He was a graduate of Marietta High School and a member of Marietta Church of God. He loved to tinker with cars. Elmer was a longtime employee at R. O. Wetz and Inland Wood Products.

Elmer is survived by his wife Esther Muehlen Carpenter, children: Marty (Denise) Carpenter, Shari (Jeff) Jones, Lorrie (Steve) Elliott, Sean Carpenter and his special friend Margie, Terry Carpenter, Craig (Wendy) Carpenter, Gary (Elaine) Carpenter, Rachel Parra, Mellisa (Mancil) Kelly, Crystal (Charles) McKinney, 23 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, sister Ruth (Bill) Hitchcock; brothers Bob (Vicki) Carpenter and Ralph (Wilma) Carpenter and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy Carpenter and grandson Caleb McKinney.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday (July 24) at 10:00 am at Marietta Church of God with Pastor John Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in Lynch Cemetery.

Dora L. Carpenter Worstell Reynolds, 74, of Lower Salem, passed away on Thursday (July 11, 2013). She was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Marietta to Harry M. and Glenda E. (Hill) Carpenter. She was married to John Worstell and then James Reynolds.

Dora worked for Family Services and was a foster parent. She was a member of the Warren Presbyterian Church. She had many good friends around the Lower Salem-Marr area.

She is survived by five children: Doreen Milan, Harry Worstell, Leola Hendrickson, Karen Hendrickson, John Worstell and foster daughter Cindy Lincicome Miller. She has eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dean Leo Carpenter, 62, of Belpre, passed away January 10, 2018, at Camden Clark Hospital. He was born April 2, 1955 to the late Harry M. and Glenda E. Hill Carpenter.

Dean attended Lawrence and Newport Elementary and graduated in 1973 from Frontier High School. After graduating he went to work in the hot metals department at Fenton Art Glass. He was later employed at the North American Coal #4 mine in Clarington as a miner operator. Dean also worked several years as a laminator operator for International Converter in Belpre.

His woodworking hobby progressed to the wholesale/retail business of Carpenter Woods, which had a retail store on Greene Street in Marietta. Dean liked to specialize in paddlewheel boat souvenirs, making boats for local businesses as well as bigger outlets such as the Delta Queen Steamboat Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Delmar and Dale as well as sisters Dorothy, Doris, Dora, and Donna. Surviving sisters are Dixie Stolarik and Diana (Shaan) Pugh, both of Reno.

Dean is survived by four children, Darcie (David) Rosen of Oakdale, Connecticut, Adam (Sarah) Carpenter of Medina, Ohio, and Clint and Troy Carpenter both of Marietta. Grandchildren are William Henry Carpenter of Medina and Noah Edward Rosen of Oakdale.

Dean's special friends were Joyce Skinner and her husband Don.

Following Dean's wishes, he will be cremated and no service will be observed at this time. Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre is assisting the family.

Carolyn Sue Hornsby, 70, of Marietta passed away at her home on June 23, 2019. She was born October 8, 1948, in Marietta a daughter of Dana and Blanche L. Parsons Carpenter.

Carolyn was a graduate of Marietta High School and was employed for 18 years as a cook for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and loved old country music, going on drives, people watching and especially her family. Carolyn was a very spunky person.

Carolyn is survived by her children: Della May Lewis, Christine Ward, and Ronald Hornsby all of Marietta; grandchildren: Shawn Carpenter, Nathan Cline and Courtney Lamp; 3 great grandchildren: Chadwick Lamp, Jr. Chloe Lamp and Chase Lamp. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Hearn and brother, Bob Hasley, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather and brother Ronald D. Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (June 26) at 12:00 noon at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with interment following in East Lawn Memorial Park. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8.

Ronald Dean Hornsby, 51, of Marietta passed away at 10:20 am on Monday, February 15, 2021, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.  He was born on May 29, 1969, in Marietta a son of the late Carolyn Hornsby.

Ron was employed as a truck driver and was known as a great bass player and loved all kinds of music.

On May 28, 2011, he married Alisa Fritsche, who was a high school sweetheart reunited on facebook and married 6 months later.  Alisa survives with stepson, Jedidiah (Tara) Lanningan, stepdaughter, Alexandria Lannigan and 2 sisters, Della Lewis and Christine Ward all of Marietta.  His mother preceded him in death.

Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was born May 8, 1926 in Fairplain, West Virginia a son of the late Johnny Hoyt & Beulah Cobb Carpenter. He was an ironworker for Welding Inc. in Charleston, West Virginia for many years and formerly worked as a coal miner. He was a member of the Gandeeville United Methodist Church and VFW Post 5783 in Spencer, West Virginia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a veteran of World War Two and Korea and received a Purple Heart for his service. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Garnet Ellis Carpenter; a son and daughter-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Betty Carpenter of Gandeeville; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Jennifer and Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Zack, Kenny, Payton, Arianna and Zander; five sisters, Irene Harris of Cicerone, West Virginia, Maxine Lilly of Hardeeville, South Carolina, Erline Tolley of Elizabeth, West Virginia, and Octavia “Toots” Cox and Mary Lou Hargus, both of Harmony; and one brother, Gerald Carpenter, also of Harmony. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jetty, George and Ferris; and a sister, Pauline. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Revs. John Lowe and Jerry Malona officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jetty E. Carpenter Jetty E. Carpenter, 76, of Spencer, died Nov. 24, 2007, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Harmony, a son of the late Johnny Hoyt and Beulah Cobb Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Ferris Carpenter. He was a tool and die maker, a businessman and a farmer. He was also an ordained Baptist minister and had pastored at several local Roane County churches. He was an active member of the Harmony Baptist Association for many years with his church membership being at Henry's Fork Baptist Church in Tariff. He had more recently been attending the Boggs Fork Community Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Naomi Jewell Nichols Carpenter; one daughter, Stephanie Carpenter of Spencer and her fiancé Steven Bolte of Spencer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Janifer Carpenter of Spencer, Ron and Caroline Carpenter of Knoxville, Tenn., and Josh and Kim Carpenter, also of Spencer; five grandsons, Adam, Solomon and Jacob Carpenter, Kyle and Alec Crihfield and an honorary grandson, Lewis Bolte; and two granddaughters, Ally Rey and Naomi Jo Carpenter. Also surviving are two brothers, Johnny H. Carpenter Jr. of Gandeeville and Gerald Carpenter of Harmony; six sisters, Irene Harris of Cicerone, Pauline Bee of Parkersburg, Maxine Lilly of Hardeeville, S.C., Erline Tolley of Canton, Ohio, and Octavia "Toots" Cox and Mary Lou Hargus, both of Harmony. Linda L. Stutler Carpenter, 74, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 24, 2017, with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George G. and Bernice A. Stutler; husband, Jack L. Carpenter; daughters, Jackie and Jaqulin Carpenter, Bobbi J. Carpenter Evans; brothers, George O. Stutler, Virgil Eugene "Gene" Stutler; and sister, Marlene Stutler Carpenter.

Linda was a member of the Garrison Avenue Freewill Baptist Church and retired from Kanawha County Schools, Elk Center Daycare.


Left to cherish her memory, children, Anita Carpenter of Charleston, Jackie Pettry (Micky) of Cabin Creek; grandchildren, Joshua Evans (Jessica Woods), Lynse Evans Price (Brian), Neka Osborn (Jeremy Lane), Tierani Wood (Brandon), Zackary Wilkinson (Makayla), Cody Carpenter (Alexandria Blankenship), Amy Anthony (John), Erin Daniels (Mark); 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Stashie Gleason of South Charleston, Joyce Prouse (Glen) of Charleston, Diane Myers (Frank) of Tavares, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
