DEATH: ean B. Howe, 92, of Walnut Creek, Calif., formerly of Mansfield and Ulysses, Pa., died Friday, May 8, 2015 in her home. Born May 11, 1922, in Ulysses, she was the daughter of Lawrence E. and Mabel V. Evans Buck.
A 1940 valedictorian graduate of Ulysses High School, she went on to Mansfield State College where she graduated in three years. On February 5, 1943, in Ulysses, she married Richard A. Howe, who predeceased her on October 5, 1981. Jean was a long-time member of both Ulysses First Baptist Church and Mansfield First Baptist Church. She also was an active member of several literary and charitable organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are: four daughters, Margery (Enoch) Bell of Moraga, Calif., Joanne (Robert) Horne of Tucson, Ariz., Carolyn (Michael) Barrett of Bremerton, Wash., and Laurie (Daniel) Corbett of Himrod, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Sylvia) Buck of Ulysses; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Lois Wilson, Gladys Angood, Louise Miller, Dorothy Erway, and Grace Kear; and two brothers, Roger L. Buck and Robert A. Buck.
Friends may call Friday, May 15, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, Pa.. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the Ulysses First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason K. Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. DEATH: Ulysses, Pa. – Richard A. Howe, 58, of 24 College Ave., Mansfield, formerly of Ulysses, bank executive and father of a Lindley, NY woman, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1981 at his home. He was born in Whitesville Jan. 7, 1923, the son of Louis and Harriett Bassett Howe. He married Jean Buck Feb. 5, 1943 in Ulysses. Howe was president of the First Citizen’s National Bank and served at the bank’s headquarters in Mansfield. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member and moderator of the Mansfield First Baptist Church, a member of Mansfield Kiwanis Club, Lewisville Masonic Lodge, Coudersport Consistory, past chairman of Group 4 of the Pennsylvania Bankers’ Association, Mansfield Men’s Club and active in many other civic activities. Surviving are his wife, Jean; four daughters, Mrs. Enoch (Margery) Bell of Springfield, Va., Mrs. Steven (Joanne) Teich of Audobon, N.J., Mrs. Michail (Carolyn) Barrett of Binghamton and Mrs. Daniel (Laurie) Corbett of Lindley, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Olin (Ruth) LaMonte of Canaseraga. Friends may call today 7-9 p.m. at the Koch Funeral Home in Ulysses and Wednesday 10 a.m. to noon in the Mansfield First Baptist church. Services will be there at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev.
