10984. Elizabeth S. Coon

SUBJECT: Correction.
Date: 99-05-06 15:23:17 EDT.
From: hoodnhat@telusplanet.net (Lorne & Faye Hood).
To: JRCRIN001@aol.com (@cox.net)
Dear John:
Just a note here today to let you know that it has been discovered
there is an error in the Stephen Coon/ Phoebe Carpenter information.
It should read.....Elizabeth S. Coon born 27 March 1823  married
on 22 December 1842 to Ezekiel D. Kenney......I had a H for the K.
Once I got the spelling corrected I have found the following info.
Eziekiel Kenney died 11 April 1851 at age of 33 years 2 months 1
day.....by my calculations that would give him a birthdate of 10
February 1818.    He is buried in Quaker Street Cemetery, Norwich.
I had received another bundle of info from a lady down in CA and
she had it with a K and footnote to say he died young.
Will have to start searching now to see if possibly Elizabeth
remarried as have looked at the Ontario death indexes and was not able
to find her unless she moved to Reach Twp. at some point....found one
Elizabeth E. Kenney who died in Reach Twp 22 Jan. 1903. Next time I'm at
the History Center in Lethbridge I'll make a point of looking this up.
As Ever, Faye Hood.

NOTE:  per image - suggested inscription
In Memory of
Amasa Coon
who died
28 Jul 1877
Aged 77 years
8 months
& 18 Days
AND suggested bio.
Amasa marker's has "In Memory of"  and his marker indicates he died at age 77 years, 8 months & 18 days which works out to be born about 10 Oct 1799. BUT his brother George was born 13 Mar 1799 with a confirmed birth date and having another child 7 months later is not likely. Census records show a 1 to 2 year spread between them.
It is likely he was listed a year older than he was at death.

COMMENT:
I am not finding evidence of James - only Abel as a name.

NOTE:  A Descendant through this son has Y-DNA match with Group 12 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project. AND not of Group 3. Likely due to NPE or bad geenalogy?

FATHER:
George challenged and Benjamin seemingly disproved by Y-DNA test.

NOTE:
To go to Harrison County, WV from Fauquier County is by land. North into Loudoun County then west on the Old Northwestern Turnpike over the Shenandoah Mountains until you get to Harrison County then part of VA.
To go to Lawrence County, OH from Harrison County you head west on the Old Northwestern Turnpike until you get to the Ohio River. Then use the river to float to Lawrence County. Note, there was also a trail that went inland (west of the river into Ohio) then south.
There are several ways to go from Lawrence County, OH to Fountain County, IN. A) Down the Ohio river to Wabash River. Up the Wabash to Fountain County. B) By land northwest across the State of Ohio and near the center of the state follow the Old Chicago Road to Lafayette, OH then SW to Fountain County.
Virginia offically lost West Virginia in 1863 when WV became a state. So all counties were in VA prior.
Harrison County was created in 1784 from Monongalia County which was created in 1776 from District of Augusta. Augusta County was created in 1738 from Orange County that was created in 1734 from Spotsylavania which was created in 1720 from the counties of Essex (1692), King and Queen (1691) and King William (1700). Each of the three later also break down, but as given provides enough of an example.
