Number 1524 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 216.
Family on page 370 (# 504). Residence: Probably Harford, PA. A Farmer.DEATH: Same Death date as father? This is either a strange occurrence or one is in error. At this time, the father's death date seems more accurate and research needs to determine the death date of the son - this person. Done - grave found see the following email.

John,
Just a quick follow up to the Cyril date of death (1854). We spent some time in the early to mid 1980s searching for lost and/or abandoned cemeteries in the Greenfield Township PA area looking for evidence of Carpenters and associated families. During one of these forays we discovered a small Carpenter family cemetery that was lost to overgrowth and in danger of sinking into swamp land that had been created by damming a bordering pond. We photographed and documented as many of the headstones as we could. One of the headstones belonged to Cyril (my Great x 4 Grandfather); others belonged to his wife and other family members. I have visited the cemetery occasionally over the years including as recently as last summer (I think I still have the bramble bush scars). The names and dates are still readable on the headstones. The inscription on the headstone reads “In memory of CYRIL CARPENTER, WHO DIED Oct. 19, 1854. AE. 88y'rs 1 mo. & 5 days. Now we feel that each is blessed inheriting their eternal rest.” I think the 1854 date of death for this Cyril is accurate.

He apparently bought land in 1808. Was this when he purchased the Greenfield lot?

The Sickler's Pond Cemetery can be difficult to find. The easiest way to get there is as follows: 1) exit at the Tompkinsville Exit on Route 81, 2) when you exit the Tompkinsville Exit (exit 202 onto Route 107) you immediately go West, 3) Very shortly (maybe a half mile or less) you will turn right so that you are heading North going parallel to Route 81, 4) after going north about 1.5 miles you will hit an intersection. At this intersection will be the Worth Baptist Church, 5) at this intersection you go east, which will take you over Route 81, 6) shortly after you cross over Route 81 (maybe a quarter mile at most), you will see an old cemetery on the left of the road, 7) Shortly past this cemetery the road will take a dogleg type turn to the left. In the middle of this turn you will be able to turn right onto two compacted dirt and gravel roads. This doglegged paved road which intersects with two dirt roads sometimes appears as a normal four-way intersection on some maps. You will also note that just prior to this "intersection", on the right side of the road is another Carpenter cemetery. 8) At this intersection, you will turn right, and then will immediately be faced with the two dirt roads, 9) you take the dirt road on the left. 10) after about a half mile you will go across a very small bridge. If you stop on this bridge you will see Sickler's pond on your left, and a smaller pond on your right, which is the downstream side. 11) As soon as you cross the bridge, the Carpenter cemetery will be on your right, along the side of the pond, about 200 feet from the bridge. The easiest way to get to the cemetery is to continue going until you reach the first developed property. On this property there is a house trailer. If you tresspass along the side of this property , you will be able to see a field stone wall in the right rear of the property. If you go over the fieldstone wall and head toward the pond, you will almost certainly hit the cemetery. If you choose to not trespass, be prepared for an almost impassable and hellacious trip either through very thick overgrowth, or along an extremely marshy swamp.

“Account Book of John Carpenter, One of Nine Harford Partners, Recovered in Second-Hand Book Store in Wilkes-Barre.
Harford, Pa.-Although the discovery of account books of early settlers in Pennsylvania is not unusual, the recent finding of such a book kept by one of the Nine Partners who founded this town in 1790, has greatly stimulated interest in the Harford Sesqui-Centennial celebration to be held her July 3 and 4………….
……The finder sold it to a Binghamton, N. Y., attorney who, realizing its value, placed it in the hands of G. R. Carpenter, of New York, a descendant of one of the Harford pioneers……
The little book measures four by six inches and was apparently purchase by John Carpenter March 24, 1821 for the purpose of keeping his accounts as administrator of the estate of his brother, Ezra, who settle in Harford in 1795 and died in the nearby town of Herrick [sic Clifford], Feb. 27, 1821…..John found that a few pages sufficed for the estate records, and so he devoted the remainder of the book to entries of his dealings with neighbors.”GRAVE: image
