Per Book: "Lewis S. Carpenter was found dead in his bed at Adamsdale. April 28, 1896.
Mr. Carpenter was the son of John and Nancy (Bishop) Carpenter, and was born
and had always lived in the house in which he died.  He was a farmer and in the
pursuit of this calling manuufactured a large quanity of cidar, which was
considered the best.  Indeed "Carpenter's cidar" was well known all the country
round."

NOTE: Civil War Veteran.  "Joseph B. Carpenter of Providence county enlisted Sept. 19, 1861 in company I, enrolled in Pawtucket, R. I., and was mustered into service Aug. 29, 1862: was admitted to Army Square Hospital, D. C., April 12, 1862, returned to duty Oct. 15, 1864 and was mustered out.  He served in the 4th Regiment."
It is interesting to note that his wife died in Feb 1861 and he joined up in Sept 1861.  I wonder about a child?  Did the wife die in child birth?
