Subject: Carpenter Cousins
Greetings Mr. Carpenter,
I suspect that we are cousins but I am uncertain of the link. Perhaps you can identify my lineage from your extensive research of the Carpenter genealogy. May great grandmother is Eloise Marie Carpenter 1870 – 1946. She married my great grandfather Harmon Louis Schermerhorn in 1892. Other information of which I am fairly certain is her uncle is Edwin Zachariah Carpenter, 1833 – 1917. His obituary states that he passed away in the home of his niece Eloise Schermerhorn. I have a document regarding the sale of property on Vley Road near Schenectady from Edwin Z Carpenter and Eloise Carpenter to Harmon and Eloise Schermerhorn. I don’t think that either Edwin nor Eloise Carpenter were ever married but my great grandmother was their favorite niece. My second great grandparents may have been William Cowper Carpenter and Philadelphia Edmonds.
I also have three copies a very old family portrait of Ambrose and Phebe Ann VanDerBeek. I am fairly certain that Phebe Ann is also a Carpenter cousin. I don’t have a date for the photograph and I am uncertain how and why they came into possession of my mother before she passed away.
I have done my DNA through Ancestry.com but I am not sure if this information can be used in the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA project. Let me know if I can contribute to this DNA project.
It would be great if you could take a moment to verify that I am on the right track in this genealogy research.
Thanks
Clint VanRoekel

Perhaps your Eloise-168582 is sister-in-law instead of sister. We don’t have a spouse for George W. Carpenter-105096 nor his date of death so you’re correct, she could be his widow. >> I don’t have any documentation regarding the birth of my great-grandmother Eloise Marie Schermerhorn, nee Carpenter. I am relying on my mother’s memory of her grandmother. Eloise Marie Carpenter was born 18 May 1870 in Glenville, New York. She married Harmon Louis Schermerhorn on 18 May 1892. She passed away 02 Dec 1946. I will check with my cousins to find some documentation. There may not be any because of the embarrassment of the birth of my grandfather, 6 ½ months after they were married. > > If you ever have any contact with the descendants of Ambrose & Phebe Ann VanDerBeek, I would like to share these family portraits with them. They had 9 children but the photo has 8. There are certainly some descendants to whom I can pass these photos. > > Thanks again for your information. > > Clint VanRoekel > Wake Forest, NC
