POSTMASTER HEATH.

It is now Postmaster Hume Bart Heath as Mr. Heath received his commission as Postmaster at Plymouth with the signature of President Wilson Tuesday.  He will begin office duties February first.  Mr. Heath has been Foreman in The Record Office for the past twenty-seven years since the establishment of the paper by the late H.E. Parker.  Mr. Heath is a native of Vermont, going from there to Lisbon where he learned his trade as a printer with H.E. Parker.  He has served his party and the town in various capacities and at present is a School Board member.  He is painstaking and faithful and will take his new position with the best wishes of the townspeople.  In assuming his Postmastership at Plymouth Mr. Heath will step into one of the best offices of its class in this country.  The office has been brought to this state through the untiring zeal of the retiring Postmaster.  One of the first improvements of Mr. Wright is that of having the Boston mail car come on the Paper Train reaching here at 7:30 a.m. rather than noon.  This gives papers and mail to the village and R.F.D. service has been added to and extended.  The city carrier service has been established in the village, the Postal Savings Bank has been put in operation and lately the parcel post has been established.  >The Plymouth Record, January 31, 1914, p4.

H.B. HEATH TO BE POSTMASTER.
It was announced Wednesday that Congressman Raymond B. Stevens of the Second New Hampshire District has recommended to the Postmaster General the appointment of Hume Bart Heath as Postmaster at Plymouth to succeed Charles C. Wright, the present incumbent who has held the position since January 6, 1906.  The selection of Mr. Heath ends a contest within the Democratic Party in which Davis B. Keniston also sought the Postmastership.
Hume Bart Heath was born at Peacham, Vt. August 16, 1860 and with his parents moved to Lisbon in 1868 where he was educate in the public schools, graduating from Lisbon in 1877.  26 years ago he removed to Plymouth and has been a resident since, occupying during that period the position of foreman of The Plymouth Record.

Mr. Heath was Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, for 6 years was the Treasurer of the Plymouth Fire District and for the past 4 years had been a member of the Board of Education, being Chairman of the Board.  He has been his party's candidate for the Legislature and State Senate.  He is a member of the Plymouth Lodge I.O.O.F, of Pemigewasset Chapter and Omega Council.  In 1880 he married Lucy K. Oakes of Easton.  They reside on Highland Street.  In all positions held by Mr. Heath he has been a conscientious worker, faithful and accommodating and true to his trust.  >The Plymouth Record, November 15, 1930, p4.

Long Time Plymouth Town Official
and Printer Succumbs
H. Bart Heath Has Only Illness of Day
Burial in Lisbon.

A resident of Plymouth for the past 55 years, and one of the town's most respected citizens, H. Bart Heath, died at the Plymouth Hospital Friday following an illness of only a little more than a day, although he had been in poor health for some months.

He was born in Groton, Vermont, on August 16, 1860, the son of Montgomery and Victoria (Carpenter) Heath.  As a young lad he moved to Lisbon with his parents and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1877.  He started as an apprentice in a Lisbon print shop owned by Harry E. Parker, soon became a proprietor in his own right in 1886 was called to Plymouth by Thomas J. Walker to assume the position of foreman at the Record Office.  He continued in this capacity for twenty-seven years.

As a staunch Democrat he was rewarded with a Postmastership during the two terms of Woodrow Wilson's administration.  After his second term he was elected to the Plymouth Board of Selectmen where he served on the town faithfully for twelve years.  He also served on the town School Board, treasurer of the Fire District, a Fire Commissioner, and a supervisor of the checklist.

He was married to Miss Lucy K. Oakes of Easton on December 11, 1880, a loving and faithful wife, who died some years ago.  He was a member of Olive Branch Lodge of Masons, Chapter and Council.

Survivors include a niece, Miss Marion Heath, of Concord and two nephews, Max Heath, of Claremont and Ralph Heath of Apthorp [a location on Union Street just East of Littleton proper].

Funeral services were held at the late home on Wentworth street Monday morning with Rev. John C. Prince, minister of the Congregational Church officiating.  Bearers included Kenneth Bell, W.A. Kimball, Walter flint and William P. Freeman.  Burial was in the family lot at Grove Hill Cemetery, Lisbon.  >The Ashland Citizen, April 9, 1942.
