John L.,
No exact match in my records.  However, I found a William Carpenter-58022 born 1791 of, Westminster, Windham, VT who may fit. This based on "Belofit" Carpenter's father born in VT.
While William is not in the Carpenter Memorial and may or may not be a child in this family of Abel Carpenter-42258 (born in 1754) and Sarah Fippin Phippen-42259 (b. abt 1754).  I printed out the family below the 1880 census data.
I searched the 1880 and found the following.  I hope it helps.

in Lorain (Lorain) OH.  He was also known as Burt.  A country lawyer in Lorain
OH, a trout fisherman who at age 25, with
his father, Charles F. Adams, and Mr. Holaday, designed the Adams Trout fly. It
was through trial and error, and a shared
love of fishing. They probably were all sitting around talking, about bugs, the
river, the pond, and fish and what they caught
that day, and this all came about.  Mr. Holday's pond at Mayfield Michigan is
where they all fished. Mr. Holladay was a
barber and lived there year round. Burt designed the Adams trout fly, C.F.
helped, and Mr. Holladay tied it. Burt had bad
eyesight and a hand tremor. Mr. Holliday should not get all the credit as is
given in all of the books. This was a bunch a good
ol boys, all fisherman. Burt became well known in his later years for his
fishing in them there parts. The state of Michigan
dedicated a memorial only to Charles F..  Burt was a founding father of Trout
Unlimited, a river conservation group. He was
recognized by the organization for his contribution and membership of 35 years,
then in the late 1970's. He was on TV  in N.
Mich when it was founded. Basically they wanted to preserve the rivers from
destruction. At the time river canoeing was just
beginning, and was very destructive to the habitat of the trout. So this group
was formed in N. Michigan.

1903 History of Strongsville, reprinted in 1976, pg 56, "Caleb Carpenter, the fourth son of Josiah
Carpenter, was born at Brattleboro, VT, and from 1818 was closely identified with the settlement and
growth of Strongsville.  In the Spring of 1820, he bought 75 acres of land, one-half mile east of the
Center, at $3.00 per acre.  In 1821, he walked back to his old home, and remained one year, cutting
cord wood.  Returning to Ohio, he bought, at Hudson, some sheep, most of which were killed, later, by
wolves.  By industry and good management, notwithstanding the scarcity of money and poor market, he
paid for his land, and, as opportunity offered, added more acres, until he doubled the size of his farm.
Mr Carpenter was always an advocate for good schools and improvements.  His sympathies were ever
with the unfortunate and oppressed.  During the time of the fugitive slave law his home was a station on
the Underground Railroad.  In November, 1823, Mr Carpenter married Miss Susan Haynes, daughter of
Ahijah Haynes, Sr.  She was born Jan 4, 1801, at Brattleboro, VT, and was one of Strongsville's early
teachers.  Mrs Carpenter was a faithful wife and mother, with her wheel and loom clothing the family,
and sometimes remaining alone for three days, caring for house and stock, while her husband was gone
to the Newburg grist mill with a load of grain.  On one occasion a bear visited the pig-pen, carrying off its
contents, which sent back a farewell squeal.  Mrs Carpenter was a member of the First Congregational
Church.  She died, where she had lived, April 10 1841, having been the mother of eleven children,
among them three pair of twins.  In 1843, Mr Carpenter married Miss Beulah Dewey, of Brecksville, who
was mother to three daughters.  Mrs Carpenter died in 1896 at the home of her daughter Mrs J W
Ogilvy.  Mr Carpenter's death occurred at the old home, Jan 20 1873.  Of the children, Josiah E married
Caroline Reynolds and emigrated to Windsor Wis, during the 50's; Mary J became the wife of Nathan
Dodge, in Put-in-Bay OH; Reuben Almeron is a citizen of Strongsville; Alvin H married Mary Porter and
is now living in Elgin IL; Huldah B married L B Adams of Olmsted Falls, and later became the wife of
George Avery of Herscher IL; Phila M married M S Hinman; Susan became Mrs Norwood Bowers, of

Wisconsin; Angelina P married J W Ogilvy, of Strongsville.  The adopted son is Samuel A Carpenter,
who lost an arm in the War of the Rebellion, and who is a respected citizen of Strongsville."

Story from Cuyahoga Co OH History Book, date unknown, sometime after 1940, pg 94-95.  "Josiah

Caleb Carpenter, fourth son of Josiah Carpenter, was born in Brattleboro, VT, and from 1818 was
closely identified with the growth of Strongsville.  In 1820 he bought seventy-five acres of land one half
mile east of the Center for three dollars an acre.  In 1821 he walked back to VT, stayed one year and
came back, stopping in Hudson where he bought some sheep, most of which were killed later by wolves.
By hard work and good management he paid for the farm and later bought seventy-five acres more.  Mr
Carpenter was always an advocate of good schools and improvements.  His sympathies were always
with the oppressed and unfortunate.  During the Fugitive Slave Law his home was a station for the
Underground Railroad.  In November 1823 Caleb was married to Susan Haynes, who was born in
Brattleboro, VT, in 1801.  She was one of Strongsville's early teachers.  She was a good wife, and with
her wheel and loom she clothed her family of eleven children.  She was the mother of three sets of
twins.  Mrs Carpenter was a member of the first Congregational Church.  She died where she had lived

Susan "Haines" Haynes

Susan Haynes was born on 4 Jan 1801 in Brattleboro (Windham) VT.  She was born
on 4 Jan 1805. [25]  She died on 10 Apr 1841 in Strongsville (Cuyahoga) OH.
She was buried in Strongsville OH Cemetery. [80]  Grave A 2.5 1.

1801 - Susan Haynes was born 4 Jan 1801 in Brattleboro, Windham Co, VT.

1817-1818, Susan came to Cuyahoga Co OH with her parents about 1817-1818.  She was a teacher and belonged to the First Congregational Church.

1823 - Caleb Carpenter married Sylvan (Susan) Haynes, 16 Nov 1823, Cuyahoga Co OH.  They were married by Elijah Lyman, Justice of the Peace.  Recorded in Vol 2, pg 17, Cuyahoga Co OH.  (Note the spelling of Sylvan instead of Susan.)

1841 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.    One side of stone is Beulah Carpenter, age 82, d 12/16/1896, wife of Caleb Carpenter.  One side of stone is Ruba A, 6/10/1828 - 6/15/1828; Susan C, 8/16/1832 - 10/20/1837; Susan A, 3/20/1844 - 8/2/1844; and Ida E, 5/6/1858 - 9/10/1865.  (We visited this cemetery in June 2008 and took pictures, jz.)

14598. Ruba A. Carpenter

This child appears to have been a twin of Ruben Almeron Carpenter.  Evidentally she died shortly after birth.  The birth and death dates were taken from the cemetery record.

1828 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.

14601. Susan Celia Carpenter

Headstone says middle initial is C and not G.

Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, shows Susan C Carpenter, 8/16/1832-10/20/1827 (should be 1832?)  We verified the 1832 date when we visited this cemetery.

1832 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.

14602. Celia Carpenter See notes

This person may not have been. Huldah was once known as Celia - her middle name. Thus this record is duplicative.

14605. Ida E. Carpenter

In some records 2 Idas are listed.  Both with the same birth date but one 1838
and the other 1858 as birth years.  Both listed as dying on the same day!
Buried in Grave A 2.5 1.

Bulah Dewey

Buried in Grave: A 2.5 1 or C 64.  In 1880 US Census with daughter Angelia.

Story from Cuyahoga Co OH History Book, date unknown, sometime after 1940, pg 94-95.  "Josiah
Carpenter........ In 1843 Caleb married Beulah Dewey of Brecksville.  To this union were born three
daughters: Huldah, Phila and Angeline.  Hulda married L B Adams and later Mr Avery.  Phila married
Charles Hinman.  Angeline married James Ogilvy..... (These 3 daughters dates of birth do not fit after
the marriage of Caleb Carpenter and Beulah Dewey.  Huldah and Phila are children of Caleb and Susan
according to the girls dates of birth.  Andelina does belong to the Caleb and Beulah marriage, JZ.)

1896 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873".  Caleb is buried
in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1.  Also on this lot and grave, probably on one stone, are Beulah Carpenter,
age 82, d 12/16/1896, wife of Caleb Carpenter, bur 12/18/1896; Ida E, 5/6/1858 - 9/10/1865; Ruba A, 6/
10/1828 - 6/15/1828; Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter; Susan O (C?), 8/
16/1832 - 10/20/1827 (1832?); Susan A, 3/20/1844 - 8/2/1844.

1896 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, "Beulah Carpenter, d 1896, buried 12/18/1896, in Sec B,
Lot 59.  Whose lot is this?  She is showing buried on 2 different lots.  1896 - Strongsville Cem,
Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/
20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.    One side of stone is
Beulah Carpenter, age 82, d 12/16/1896, wife of Caleb Carpenter.  One side of stone is Ruba A, 6/10/
1828 - 6/15/1828; Susan C, 8/16/1832 - 10/20/1837; Susan A, 3/20/1844 - 8/2/1844; and Ida E, 5/6/
1858 - 9/10/1865.  (We visited this cemetery in June 2008 and took pictures, jz.)

14607. Susan A. Carpenter

This child is questionable for this marriage, but she is listed in the cemetery plot with Caleb Carpenter and wife 1)Susan Haynes and wife 2)Beulah Dewey.

1841 or 1844, Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, Susan A Carpenter, 3/20/1844-8/2/1844.  (I previously had 1841 for year of birth and death.  Which is correct?)  1841 could be correct because that would make her born 1 month before the death of her mother (if it is Susan Haynes).  I have changed the information I had originally 20 May 1841-2 Aug 1841, to the cemetery information of 20 Mar 1844-2 Aug 1844.  This will make her a child of Caleb Carpenter and Beulah (Dewey) Carpenter, instead of Caleb and Susan (Haynes) Carpenter.    I am still in question as to which mother she belonged to.

1844 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801 - 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.

14610. Ida E. Carpenter

1858-1865, Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, "Ida E Carpenter, 5/6/1858-9/10/
1865".  She is buried in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave 1.  Her parents, Caleb and Beulah
Carpenter, are buried on the same lot along with others.

1865 - Strongsville Cem, Cuyahoga Co OH, all on one stone in Sec A, Lot 2.5, Grave
1: one side "Caleb Carpenter, 4/30/1798 - 1/20/1873", and Susan Carpenter, 1/4/1801
- 4/10/1841, wife of Caleb Carpenter.    One side of stone is Beulah Carpenter, age 82,
d 12/16/1896, wife of Caleb Carpenter.  One side of stone is Ruba A, 6/10/1828 - 6/15/
1828; Susan C, 8/16/1832 - 10/20/1837; Susan A, 3/20/1844 - 8/2/1844; and Ida E, 5/
6/1858 - 9/10/1865.  (We visited this cemetery in June 2008 and took pictures, jz.)

THIRD GENERATION

[141] She was listed in Carp-Mem under #4048. [142]
She was married to Moses Bennett.  Moses Bennett was born about 1802.

Esther (Carpenter) Bennett resided in Minnesota and Wisconsin in 1848.  She belonged to the 1st Congregrational Church.  Her occupation was general store and ashery.

Story from Cuyahoga Co OH History Book, date unknown, sometime after 1940, pg 94-95.  "Josiah Carpenter............The children of Josiah and Lois.......Esther married Moses Bennett of Minnesota.......

1820 - Esther Carpenter and Moses O Bennet (only one t), both of Strongsville, were married on 16 Nov 1820, Cuyahoga Co OH, by Abijah Haynes, Justice Peace.  Recorded in Vol 1, pg 150.

1830 Cuyahoga Co OH, Strongsville, Moses O BENNETT, males 2 under 5, 2 5-10, 1 30-40; females 2 under 5, 1 20-30.  (Moses and Esther had 6 children between their 1820 marriage and 1830 census??)

1822-1838, Children born in OH.

1839-1843, - Children born in WI, Charles born Dec 1839; Lewis born 1842; Levi born 1843.

1840 census should show this family in WI according to the place of birth listed for children, or possibly still in OH, but I cannot find them in either record.

1850 Kenosha Co WI, Town of Pike, 17 Aug 1850, #93-94, M O BENNETT, 53, male, farmer, RE value $8000, VT; Esther, 46, female, VT; Prosper, 28, male, Inn keeper, OH; Leonard, 26, male, house carpenter, OH; Paris, 22, male, clerk, OH; Delia, 22, female, school, OH; Caroline, 19, female, school, OH; Josiah, 16, male, farmer, school, OH; Nathan, 14, male, school, OH; Lydia, 13, female, school, OH; Edward, 12, male, school, OH; Charles, 10, male, school, WI; Lewis, 8, male, school, WI; Levi, 7, male, school, WI.  (Children missing are George b abt 1825; Calista b abt 1829; and Permelia.)

1852-1853, Blue Earth Co MN was settled in 1852 and became a county in 1853 from unorganized territory.  It appears this family moved there about that time, or after 1855 per the record below.

1855 Wisconsin State Census, Kenosha Co WI, Somers Twp, M O BENNETT.  (No other information)

1857 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, 9 Oct 1857, #1-1, M O BENNETT, 58, male, farmer, VT; Esther, female, 51, female, VT; George, male, 31, farmer, OH; Nathan, male, 21, carpenter, OH; Edward, male, 19, farmer, OH; Chas, male, 17, farmer, WI; Louis, male, 16, WI; Levi, male, 15, WI; Clestia, female, 28, OH; Caroline, female, 24, OH.  (Seven children are missing, either gone from home, married, or died: Prosper, Leonard, Pharis/Ferris, Fedelia, Permelia, Lydia, Josiah.)

1860 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, Mankato PO, 7 June 1860, #308-290, M O BENNETT, 64, male, farmer, RE value $1000, PP value $3000, VT; Esther, 57, female, VT; Charles 20, male, WI; Kalista, 31, female, OH; Louisa (Lewis?), 18, male, WI; Levi, 17, male, WI; Isaac TURNER, 22, male, farm laborer, WI.  (Close by is George Bennett and Nathan Bennett & wife, and Caroline Bennett.)

1865 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato, #440, Esther BENNETT, Calista, Edward, Charles, Levi, (3 males and 2 females, 3 in service of US).

1870 - I do not find Esther Bennett or Moses O Bennett on the 1870 census record.  The record for Blue Earth Co MN is too light to read.  The only Bennett that might fit is Nathan and the index is all I can read.

1875 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, #107, Esther BENNETT, 72, female, white, VT US US; Casista, 45, female, OH VT VT.  (Also 2 houses away are son Nathan and family and son George.)

1877 - Esther (Carpenter) Bennett died 14 May 1877.

1877 - Findagrave.com lists: "Ester Bennett, Birth date unknown, Death May 14 1877.  Age 74y 8m 22d.  Burial Tivoli Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co MN.  Created by Cemeterywlkr.  Record added Jan 27, 2006.  Find A Grave

Subject: Moses Bennett and Esther Carpenter

Hello John,

I stumbled across the Carpenter Cousins website.   Moses and Esther were my great-great-great grandparents.

The site includes some information about the Bennett brothers that departed for the Gold Rush in 1850.   Some are buried in Sacramento's Old City Cemetery.   We restored the plot and placed a plaque about their journey.  My mother and a cousin ventured back to Mankato in the 1980s and visited our distant relatives.

Prosper's family mostly stayed in the Sacramento area.   Lots of Bennett cousins!

FYI -

Lori Harder

14611. Prosper Bennett

1850 census at home, Kenosha Co WI, Town of Pike, 17 Aug 1850, Prosper, 28, male, Inn keeper, OH.

1850 Yuba Co CA, Deer Creek Mine, 23 Oct 1850, #78-78, Jno GILLCOAT, 44, male, miner, GA; Josiah BENNET, 16, male, miner, OH; P BENNETT, 28, male, miner, OH; Leonard BENNETT, 27, male, miner, OH.  (One other miner here also, no relationship.)  Note this is the second census for 1850 that lists these 3 Bennett brothers.

1857 not at home on Minnesota Territorial & State Census.

1858 - Prosper Bennett married Estill (last name unknown) about 1858, probably in CA.

1860 - Prosper Bennett lived at Vernon California in 1860.

1860 Sutter Co CA, Vernon Twp, 26 July 1860, #862-782, P BENNETT, 37, male, farmer, OH; Estill, 32, female, domestic, NY; Alice, 1, female, CA; F A SMITH, 40, male, farmer, ??; A CARPENTER, 30, male, farmhand, OH; T CONOR, 40, male, farmhand, IRE.  Also next door #861-781, E W BENNETT, 31, male, farmer, OH; Katharine, 34, female, domestic, NY; Eugene, 5, male, blind, CA.  (Who is this E W Bennett?)  Same Eugene Bennett on 1870 Alameda Co CA, Oakland, 1 Aug 1870, attending school at deaf, dumb & blind Asylum, line 25, Eugene Bennett, 15, male, white, blind, CA.

1860-1870, Prosper Bennett possibly died between 1860 & 1870.

1870 - I do not find any trace of Prosper or Estill Bennett on the US census index for 1870.  There is a possibility in 1870 Sacramento Co CA, Lee Twp, Sac City PO, #33-30, Celestia BENNETT, 42, female, white, keeping house, NY; Charles, 11, male, white, at home, school, CA; Alice, 9, female, white, school, CA; John, 6, male, white, CA; Henry, 3, male, white, CA.  (They are in the household of John C GRUBBS or TUBBS, 40, male, white, miner, NY.  There is also a male laborer and a male saloon keeper in this household.  The child, Alice age 9, and Celestia's place of birth as NY makes this a possible fit even though Alice's age is off by a couple of years.)  There is also in 1870 Sacramento Co CA, Lee Twp, #30-27. Frank Bennett, male, white, 44, farmer, NY; Thos, male, white, 14, at home, NY.

1880 - I do not find any trace of Prosper or Estill Bennett on the US census index for 1880.  I do find a Cestilia, wife of Franklin Bennett with the same family as the 1870 census above.  See below.  After looking at the 1870 & 1880 census records I do not feel this is my family but I am leaving the census in this file for the time being.

1880 (possibility)  Sacramento Co CA, Lee Twp, 16 June 1880, pg 296-C, #156-162, Franklin BENNETT, white, male, 54, married, farmer, NY NY NY; Cestilia, white, female, 53, wife, married, keeping house, NY NY NY; Thomas, white, male, 24, son, single, farm laborer, CA NY NY; Charles, white, male, 21, son, single, farm laborer, CA NY NY; Allice, white, female, 19, dau, at home, school, CA NY NY; John, white, male, 16, son, school, CA NY NY; Grant (Henry on

14612. Leonard Bennett

I have taken Leonard Bennett's date of birth and place of birth from the 1880 census record.

1850 census at home, Kenosha Co WI, Leonard, 26, male, house carpenter, OH.

1850 Yuba Co CA, Deer Creek Mine, 23 Oct 1850, #78-78, Jno GILLCOAT, 44, male, miner, GA; Josiah BENNET, 16, male, miner, OH; P (Prosper?) BENNETT, 28, male, miner, OH; Leonard BENNETT, 27, male, miner, OH.  (One other miner here also, no relationship.)  Note this is the second census for 1850 that lists these 3 Bennett brothers.

1857 - Leonard was not at home on Minnesota Territorial & State Census.  He was probably in California at this time.

1860 Placer Co CA, Wisconsin Hill, 5 Jul 1860, #1966-1941, Chapin BENNET, 30, male, miner, NY; Josiah, 24, male, miner, NY; Leonard, 38, male, miner, NY; George DOTE, 44, male, miner, ENG.  (This appears to be the Leonard and Josiah, sons of Esther Carpenter and Moses O Bennett, but they should be born in OH.)

1870 - I do not find a Leonard Bennett that would fit this person on the 1870 US census index.  He should be in California, but I do not find him.

1880 Mendocino Co CA, Round Valley, 24-25 June 1880, pg 227-D, #135-140, Josiah BENNETT, white, male, 46, single, stock raiser, OH VT NY; Leonard BENNETT, white, male, 56, brother, single, stock raiser, OH VT NY.

1900 - I do not find a Leonard Bennett that would fit this person on the 1900 US census index.

1901 - (possibility) - Findagrave.com lists: "Leonard Bennett, Birth Jul 1828, Death Feb 2 1901.  Inscription: Age 77y 7m.  Burial Ukiah Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co CA.  Created by A Seeker.  Record added Aug 13, 2008.  Find A Grave Memorial# 28996049."

14619. Nathan Bennett

I believe the census records I have listed are the correct Nathan although he listed his parents born in NY.

1850 census at home, Kenosha Co WI, Town of Pike, Nathan, 14, male, school, OH.

1857 at home, Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Nathan, male, 21, carpenter, OH.

1860 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, Mankato PO, 7 June 1860, #307-289, Nathan BENNETT, 25, male, farmer, RE value $500, PP value $75, married in yr, OH; Julia A, 18, female, married in yr, OH; Caroline BENNETT, 27, female, OH.  (Caroline Bennett is sister of Nathan.  Close by is father & mother, M O Bennett & family and brother George Bennett.)

1865 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, #444, Nathan BENNETT, Julia, Nelson E, (2 males, 1 female).

1870 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, 26 June 1870, Nathan BENNETT, 25 (should be 35), male, white, farmer, RE value $1500, PP value $543, male eligible to vote, OH; Julia A, 29, female, white, keeping house, OH; Nelson E, 6, male, white, MN; Charlotte, 2, female, white, MN.

1875 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, #105, Nathan BENNETT, 39, male, OH VT VT; Julia A, 32, female, OH NY NY; Nelson E, 10, male, MN OH OH; Charlotte E, 7, female, MN OH OH; Ann C, age 1, female, MN OH OH; George (BENNETT), 50, male, OH VT VT.

There are 2 children buried in Tivoli Cem, where Nathan and Julia A Bennett are buried.  Can either of these children be the child that had died, per 1900 & 1910 census record for Julia.  Gracie L Bennett (1876-1877) and Moses O Bennett (2 Aug 1863-Oct 1864).  Either of these dates would fit their family.  Daughter Ann Caroline Bennett named one of her daughters Grace L, see 1920 census below.  One of these children could be a child of Lewis Bennett, brother of Nathan.

1880 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, 2 June 1880, pg 300-C, #22-22, Nathan BENNET (sp), white, male, 45, married, farmer, OH VT VT; Julia A, white, female, 39, wife, married, keeping house, OH NY NY; Nelson, white, male, 15, son, at home, school, MN OH NY; Charlot E, white, female, 12, dau, school, MN OH NY; Caroline, white, female, 7, dau, school, MN OH NY.  (Note the spelling of Bennet.)

1885 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, #48, Nathan Bennett, 49, male, OH; Julia, 44, female, OH; Nelson, 20, male, MN; Charlotte, 17, female, MN; Anna, 12, MN; Alves (Oliver?), 2, male, MN.

1895

1900 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, 14 June 1900, #127-128, Nathan BENNETT, head, white, male, May 1833, age 65, married 60 yrs (?), farmer, own free farm, OH NY NY; Jula A, wife, white, female, June 1841, age 59, married 60 yrs (?), 5 children born and 4 living, OH NY NY; Nelson E, son, white, male, Sept 1864, age 35, single, farm laborer, MN OH OH; Lottie E, dau, white, female, Dec 1867, age 32, single, teaching school, MN OH OH; Oliver F, son, white, male, Feb 1883, age 17, single, farm laborer, MN OH OH.  (The number of years married is clearly written but probably should be between 35 & 40 yrs.  Nathan listed his parents born in NY but that should be VT.)

1905 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato, 12 June 1905, Nathan BENNETT, male, white, 70, farmer, OH OH OH; Julia N(?), female, white, 63, OH NY NY; Nels E, male, white, 40, laborer, MN OH OH; Lottie E, female, white, 27, school teacher, MN OH OH; Fannie B, female, white, 35, school teacher, MI MI MI.  (Who is this Fannie?)

1910 Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato Twp, 18 or 28 April 1910, #97-97, N BENNETT, head, male, white, 74, married first time 49 yrs, farmer, own free farm, OH NY VT; Julia A, wife, female, white, 69, married first time 49 yrs, 5 children born and 4 living, OH NY NY; Nelson E, son, male, white, 45, single, laborer on farm, MN OH OH; Charlott E, dau, female, white, 43, single, teacher public school, MN OH OH; Carrie A (Ann Caroline?) BUCKHOLTZ, dau, female, white, 38, widow, 2 children born and living, teacher public school, MN OH OH; Grace L, niece, female, white, 14, school, MN GER MN; Pearl, niece, female, white, 11, school, MN GER MN.

1912 - Findagrave.com lists: "Nathan Bennett, Birth 1835, Death 1912.  Burial Tivoli Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Blue Earth Co MN.  Created by Cemeterywlkr.  Record added Jan 27, 2006.  Find A Grave Memorial# 13148360."

14620. Josiah Bennett

I have taken the date of birth and place of birth for Josiah from the 1900 CA census possibility.

Note - We have 2 census records for Josiah Bennett, one in Wisconsin and one in California.

1850 census at home, Kenosha Co WI, Josiah, 16, male, farmer, school, OH.

1860 - Josiah Bennett send a letter from Wisconsin Hill, California, 1860.

1860 Placer Co CA, Wisconsin Hill, 5 Jul 1860, #1966-1941, Chapin BENNET, 30, male, miner, NY; Josiah (BENNET), 24, male, miner, NY; Leonard (BENNET), 38, male, miner, NY; George DOTE, 44, male, miner, ENG.  (This appears to be the Leonard and Josiah, sons of Esther Carpenter and Moses O Bennett, but they should be born in OH.  Note only one T.)

1870 - I do not find a Josiah Bennett etc to fit this person in the US census index.  He and brother Leonard should be in CA.

1880 Mendocino Co CA, Round Valley, 24-25 June 1880, pg 227-D, #135-140, Josiah BENNETT, white, male, 46, single, stock raiser, OH VT NY; Leonard BENNETT, white, male, 56, brother, single, stock raiser, OH VT NY.

1882 - (possibility) - Josiah married about 1882 to Elzina, per 1900 census record.  Josiah and Elzina are both buried in Mendocino Co CA.

1900 (same probability) Mendocino Co CA, Ukiah Twp and city, 14 June 1900, #155-159, Josiah BENNETT, head, white, male, Jan 1834, 66, married 18 yrs, farmer, rents farm, OH VT VT; Elzina, wife, white, female, Dec 1861, age 38, married 18 yrs, 5 children born and 4 living, CA VA MO; Edward H, son, white, male, May 1884, age 16, single, school, CA OH CA; Eva L, dau, white, female, Oct 1886, age 13, school, CA OH CA; Mary I, dau, white, female, Aug 1888, age 11, school, CA OH CA; Donald L, son, white, male, Sept 1894, age 5, CA OH CA.

1910 - I do not find a Josiah Bennett/Bennet or Elzina Bennett/Bennet on the 1910 US census index.

1913 - (probability) - Findagrave.com lists: "Josia Bennett, Birth 1836, Death May 27 1913.  Burial Ukiah Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co CA.  Created by A Seeker.  Record added Aug 13, 2008. Find A Grave Memorial# 28996047."

1927 - (probable wife) - Findagrave.com lists: "Alazema Bennett, Birth 1861, Death Apr 26 1927.  Burial Ukiah Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co CA.  Created by A Seeker.  Record added Aug 13, 2008.  Find A Grave Memorial# 28996038."

14622. Edward Bennett

1850 census at home, Kenosha Co WI, Town of Pike, Edward, 12, male, school, OH.

1857 at home, Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Edward, male, 19, farmer, OH.

1860 - Edward is not listed at home, where is he?  Not married?

1861-1865, The 1865 census lists Edward as being in the civil war.  Minnesota Civil War Rooster lists: Edward Bennett, 2nd Regiment Minnesota Infantry, Union, Company B, Soldier's Rank In Pvt, Soldier's Rank Out Pvt,. Film Number M546 roll 1.  (Is this the right Edward Bennett?)

1865 Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Blue Earth Co MN, Mankato, #440, Esther BENNETT, Calista, Edward, Charles, Levi, (3 males and 2 females, 3 in service of US).

I feel the information from here down is probably this Edward Bennett but do not have a definite link to the family of Esther Carpenter Bennett and Moses O Bennett.  The 1880 census listing sister Clista is probably the link needed for this tie.  He also named a son Edward Moses or Moses Edward.

1870 (possibility) Waseca Co MN, Waseca village and PO, 6 June 1870, #40-42, Edward BENNETT, 30, male, white, butcher, RE value $3000, PP value $500, OH; Eliza J, 26, female, white, keeping house, NH; George, 2, male, white, MN; James, age 2/12, born May, male, white, MN; Louis LUCH, 26, male, white, works in butcher shop, Prussia.  (George, age 2, is listed as a male on this census but as a female on 1880 census.)  This son James listed here is on findagrave.com as "James Bennett, 1870-1872", buried Woodville Cem, Waseca, Waseca Co, MN.

1875 (possibility) Minnesota Territorial & State Census, Waseca Co MN, Wilton, #92, Edward BENNETT, 36, male, white, OH VT VT; Eliza J, 32, female, white, NH NH NH; Georgiana, 7, female, white, MN OH NH; Jannie(?), age 1, female, white, MN OH NH.
