Death of Mrs. Childs.
Pioneer Woman of Arkansas City
Passed Away Saturday Evening
Mrs. Mary Fanny Childs, wife of B. F. Childs, of 104 North B. Street passed away at the family home Saturday evening at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Childs was one of the best known women in Arkansas City as she and her husband had resided here for the past 30 years. He was one of the pioneer druggists of Arkansas City and the family came here about 30 years ago from New Jersey.
Mrs. Childs was born in Boonton, New Jersey, which is a suburb of Newark.
She had been ailing and had been confined to her home for several years past, and therefore her death at this time was not unexpected 44 the husband and friends of the family.
Mrs. Childs was a cousin of Gem Winfield Scott and Gem Quimby of Civil War fame and also a cousin of Theodore Vail who is at the head of the American Telegraph and Telephone Company.
Friends of the family will sympathize with Mr. Childs in the loss of his beloved wife.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence conducted by Rev. Frederick Busch of the Trinity Episcopal Church. The body of Mrs. Childs will be sent to Newark, New Jersey for interment.
The service this afternoon was an Episcopal service and music was furnished by Miss Florence Hartley and Miss Cecil Day. A profusion of beautiful flowers were seen at the funeral.
It was planned late today to take the body to Marquette, Mich., as soon as the weather permits.

John,
Cleaning up some old unsorted files, I found two New England lines in the South, one placed, one not:
1) (IDENTIFIED )
2) (AS FOLLOWS) ...
Charles Carpenter, born c1816-1820 in MA, resided in Coweta Co. GA in 1850 and in Muscogee Co. GA in 1860 [NAMP]. He married on 27 Apr 1841 in Fayette Co. GA to Sophia Harrell, born c1824 in GA [23, 590]. Children:
1. Harriet A. Carpenter, born c1842.
2. Mary Carpenter, born c1843, not eumerated with the
family in 1860.
3. Amanda Carpenter, born c1846.
4. Elizabeth Carpenter, born c1848.
5. Ebenezer M. Carpenter, born c1849.
6. Edward Carpenter, born c1850.
7. Florence Carpenter, born c1851.
8. Louisa Carpenter, born c1853.
9. Josephine Carpenter, born c1857.
Charles is most likely of the Rehoboth line, but there are too many possibilities to connect him at present. His
naming a son Ebenezer seems significant.
I thought you might want to add these to your CE CD reference file for future researchers to have.
With regards, Terry.
