Survivors: 2 dau Mrs. Elmer Smith of Northville and Miss Frances Fern Carpenter of this place. She was the daughter of John D. Jacobus and Jenette Alderman. Known children with Samuel A. Carpenter. Death: Apr. 30, 1905 Grand Traverse County Michigan, USA Jonathan Jameson was born on 10 February 1845 in Michigan, son of Robert Jameson and Mary Woodruff. On 27 September 1850, Jonathan lived with his parents and siblings William, Henry, Hannah, and George lived in Ash township, Monroe County, Michigan. On 30 July 1860, Jonathan lived with his parents and siblings William, Henry, Hanah, George, Caroline, and Helen in Ash township. Jonathan was living in Brownstown, Wayne County, Michigan enlisted as a Private in Company K of the 24th Michigan Infantry on 14 August 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 February 1865. He was mustered out on 30 June 1865 at Detroit, Michigan. Jonathan was married to Mary Grace Carpenter. Mary was born on 9 November 1847/1848 in New York, daughter of B. Carpenter and Luna Spicer. On 16 June 1870, the couple and their sons James and William lived at Torch Lake, Antrim County, Michigan. John worked as a farmer while Mary kept house. They owned $1,300 in real estate and $100 in personal property. On 11 June 1880, the couple and four children- James, William, Marietta, and Mary lived in Sumpter township, Wayne County. The two oldest children were attending school. Jonathan worked as a farmer while Mary was keeping house. Jonathan applied for a Civil War invalid's pension on 8 February 1883. In 1890, Jonathan lived in Traverse City. He reported that he had heart trouble. In 1900, Jonathan was counted twice on the census, once on 8 June 1900 in Garfield township on a farm. On 11 June 1900, the couple lived at 223 W. 9th Street in Traverse City in Garfield township with their children Bert and Mary. Jonathan was working as an agent for a dairy machines. Jonathan died on 30 April 1905 in Garfield township from exhaustion from an infection of the gall bladder lasting for several months. Mary applied for a Civil War widow's pension on 18 May 1905. On 26 April 1910, Mary lived with her daughter Mary (Jameson)Downer and her family at 324 W. 10th Street in Traverse City. Mary died on 8 April 1914 from cancer of the pancreas at 324 W. 10th Street in Traverse City. Jonathan and Mary are buried in Oakwood Cemetery. Jonathan and Mary (Carpenter) Jameson were the parents of four children: i. JAMES BERT JAMESON was born in December 1867 in Michigan. ii. WILLIAM H. JAMESON was born in 1870 in Michigan. iii. MARETTA JAMESON was born circa 1872 in Michigan. iv. MARY E. JAMESON was born in July 1875 in Michigan. John, thanks for your offer to take a look at my genealogy. I could really use someone else's help on my paternal grandfather side. I have hit a wall primarily because I have little info on my dad's dad Robert E. Carpenter. I have no birth date and am not 100% sure of the middle initial. I have not been able to find a marriage certificate nor a birth certificate of my dad that should contain some basic info.

Mother: Bessie Clementine Tew born 1/11/1881 in Alton Township, Waseca, MN, died 2/1/1948 in Minneapolis, MN
They were married in 1911 as per 1930 Census-probably in St. Paul, Ramsey Cty, MN. If not St Paul, then possibly Janesville, Waseca County, MN.
Situation-2 family stories:
Dad told us that by 1916 Robert was not in his life as he had gone to war (WWI) and had been killed. I have not been able to find any evidence of this.
My mother told me that she thought that Robert simply abandoned the family-e.g. his son and wife.
Additional Possible Clues:
Dad always maintained that the "Carpenter line" was French- when the family came from Europe they changed the name from Carpentier to Carpenter.
I have an Easter Card dated 4/10/1915 (no postmark) that was given to my dad when he was 1.5 years old. The card is from his great grand mother who was 89 years old the day she wrote the card. This means she was born in 1826 or 1827. She signed it Grandma "Prilhend" or "Prilkend". I am guessing that this is a first name.
Through process of elimination, I have narrowed the possibilities to either Robert's paternal or maternal grand mother's given the 1826 or 1827 birth years.
