9772. Christopher C. Carpenter
NOTE:
Regarding Group 1 members of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project
Schenectady County, New York was created in 1809 from Albany County. Albany County was the orginal County created in 1683.
COMMENT:
Rensselaer County is adjacent to Albany County in 1800. The second county south is Dutchess County.
Saratoga County until 1809 is just north of Albany County. Now it is just north of Schenectady County.
All of these counties border the Hudson River which runs north to south.
The exception is Montgomery County created in 1772 from Albany County but was named Tyron County until 1784.
Hint: The Abraham Carpenter-185437 line winds up in Schenectady County.
NOTE:
Just north of Albany, NY the Mohawk River flows into the Hudson.
The Mohawk River flows eastward through Montgomery County then by Schenectady, Schenectady County, NY.
North of the Mohawk River is Saratoga County. The Mohawk River goes through Montgomery County threw Schenectady County before it enters the Hudson River.
Schenectady, NY to Albany, NY is about 20 miles.NOTE:
This Family Line submitted by John E. Proctor (brn 1933) of Stilwell KS. 4/96As stated by Art Carpenter in Jan of 1995, "I have a reference to Christopher being buried in the NE corner of the cemetary, but there are several cemetaries in the area, so we will need to write to them all to see if there is a record.
There is a museum in Marcellus that I tried to visit but it was closed when we were there, it is next to the city libary." A contact there is Jonathan C. Carpenter 154 Lancaster St. Albany, NY 12210-1904Christopher may have had a middle name, Daniel, no verification of this is available, just word of mouth. Others claim it as a letter C for Columbus. No proof given. See GRAVE.
Additional information from Art Carpenter, 05/17/95, he had received a letter from someone in Gouverneur NY as follows: "I found the stone of Christopher Carpenter with the help of Jane Gates, a local historian. She found the stone 2 years ago for someone else. Christopher Carpenter was killed at _______ by falling off his wagon and his ________ passing over him. Nov. 1, 1847, age 51 years and 1 mo." A obituary card was also sent: Christopher Carpenter, G. Stone Riverside Ceme., Sec. H. He was killed at Summerville by falling from his wagon and the wheel passsed over him. Died Nov. 4th, 1847, age 51 years 1 month.
Fay (Carpenter) & Jerry Ford submitted this summary in April of 2005:

Henrietta married William Greenman and they had four children. Unknown if he died, they divorced, he or she left, but she remarried. She married Christopher Carpenter, and they had 10 children.
A daughter of Henrietta and Christopher, Mary C., married a Greenman, and they had a son who they named William, (Will). He never married and lived in Washington state after he grew up. Mary was married three times so it is a little difficult to trace. (Info. from Art Carpenter 1/95)CENSUS: 1860 US Census - no image

Subject: family Bible help

Oct 20 4:04 AM GMT
Greetings,I am not related to you but I've come across something that might be of interest to you.As a hobby and as a favor to other genealogists, I match the genealogy in old family bibles for sale on Ebay with family trees on Ancestry.com. Today I made such a match with your tree. This particular Bible appears to have belonged to Stephen Carpenter, husband of Philanda Heath and Catherine Boright (not positive about spelling of Catherine's surname, but that's what it looks like in the Bible.)The Bible includes the following information:Stephen Carpenter married Philinda Heath on June 7, 1795Asa Carpenter born Sept. 24, 1796; drown on May __, 1823 (exact date difficult to read)Aseneth Carpenter born Dec. 8, 1798.Edwin Carpenter born Jan. 29, 1801Stephen Philinda Carpenter born July 9, 1803Stephen Carpenter Jr. born Aug. 19, 1805; died Dec. 3, 1875, age 71 years, 3 months, 14 daysBradford Carpenter born Sept. 22, 1807Orson Carpenter born March 31, 1811Harriet Carpenter born Sept. 15, 1814Jane Carpenter born June 11, 1817Cloe Carpenter born June 25, 1820Albert Carpenter born Nov. 18, 1822DEATHS"Stephen Carpenter Twin" died Aug. 18, 1804Philinda Carpenter, wife of Stephen Carpenter, died May 22, 1824Stephen Carpenter Senior and Catherine Boright married Feb. 13, 1825Stephen Carpenter Sr. born March 19, 1770; died Dec. 28, 1855, age 86 years, 9 monthsPhilinda Carpenter born April 9, 1779, wife of StephenCatherine Carpenter, wife of Stephen, born 1772[New Page]Lucretia E. However, Jane Bickford, I believe, was the wife of Stephen Carpenter Jr. So I deduce that this genealogy is from her family. It might very well be, too, that the Bible -- either originally or eventually -- belonged to Stephen Jr. and Jane. I transcribed this the best I could but I cannot vouch 100 percent for my accuracy. I would suggest you view the pages your yourself by going to this Ebay link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1846-old-Leather-HOLY-BIBLE-BICKFORD-CARPENTER-family-VT-NH-Canada-/370668737087?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D2858138282548692574%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D110939808457%26The Bible was published in 1846 and the deadline for bidding -- if you're interested -- is Oct. 23 at 10:07 Pacific time (1:07 p.m. Eastern time). Current bidding is at $23.49 though that might change by the time you read this. Based in their bidding history, those bidding on it appear to be collectors/dealers.FYI: I do NOT own this Bible, do not know the seller and in no way will I profit from its sale. I do this as a favor to other genealogists in an attempt to help preserve the genealogy bibles like this provide and, if it works out, to reunite the Bible with its proper family. If you don't want to bid on it, you can always download the pages for your records.I hope this is of some help to you.Blessings,Andy SmithTampa, FL

Richford, Page 287
Jonathan Carpenter was one of the early settlers of this town (Richford). He was born in Rutland, 1784. His father moved to Berkshire when he was quite young, where he lived for a while. He was soon obligated to rely wholly upon his own excertions and, therefore, apprenticed himself to a tanner and shoemaker, where by dilligent application to bussiness and study, he formed habits which shaped his after life.
He came to this town as early as 1800 and in 1810, he married Patience Rogers, daughter of Rev. Wm. Rogers, and settled on a small farm bordering the Canada line, he built a rude log house in which he lived, and a small shop for shoe-making -- this was also made of logs. ...
In 1826, he commenced business at the (Great) Falls, on the north side of the river, on the site where O. J. Smith's boot and shoe-store now stands. ...
He was an enterprising and influential citizen, possessed of a sound judgement, and scrupulously honest. He held nearly all town offices, justice of the peace for 25 or 30 years in succession, town clerk a number of years. He was the first mover in the cause of temperance in this town, and was during his life a firm supporter of the cause. He was a believer in the christian religion, and died in the faith, sept. 1859.BOOK:

Rev. Stephen Cobb was the son of Daniel and Betsey (Tinkham) Cobb. He was the husband of Temperance (Holmes) Cobb. They were married in 1818. Temperance died August 22, 1876. Rev. Cobb was a Local Preacher in the Oneida Conference and Central New York Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.Heffernan, Kathryn C.
Nine Mile Country, c1978, Pgs. 182-186
In 1817 meetings held on Limeledge by Alexander Foreman, a forceful young preacher, added about sixty converts to the young society. Then, in 1823, at the home of REVEREND STEPHEN COBB, the society was organized into a church with Reverend Cobb, Joseph Wilson and William Newton chosen as trustees. The group called themselves the First Zion Society of Marcellus. Although they were Methodists and served by Methodist preachers, the word Methodist does not appear in the trustees' records until 1839. During their first twenty-one years, the society was served by forty-two different circuit preachers.

Confusion: Did she remarry a Alden Hewitt? If yes, they were married about 1830 or 1840? And per the 1850 US Census in Columbia, Jackson, MI they list a child as 18 years old or born about 1832. Then another abt 1834 then a gap with the next one at abt 1839. See census below. Could she be the second wife? See also GRAVE: below.1850 United States Federal Census
