Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV; German: [ˌmeːklənbʊʁkˈfoːɐ̯pɔmɐn] or [ˌmɛk-] (listen);[6][7] Low German: Mäkelborg-Vörpommern), also known by its anglicized name Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania, is a state in the north-east of Germany. Of the country's sixteen states, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ranks 14th in population; it covers an area of 23,213 km2 (8,963 sq mi),[8] making it the sixth largest German state in area; and it is 16th in population density. Schwerin is the state capital and Rostock is the largest city. Other major cities include Neubrandenburg, Stralsund, Greifswald, Wismar, and Güstrow. It was named after the 2 regions of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern (which means the 'nearer part of Pomerania,' with the rest now lying in Poland).[citation needed]The state was established in 1945 after World War II through the merger of the historic regions of Mecklenburg and the Prussian Western Pomerania by the Soviet military administration in Allied-occupied Germany. It became part of the German Democratic Republic in 1949, but was dissolved in 1952 during administrative reforms and its territory divided into the districts of Rostock, Schwerin, and Neubrandenburg. A state called in German Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was re-established in 1990 following German reunification and became one of the new states of the Federal Republic of Germany.

William Wesley Swartz
Birth: 27 Aug 1853 Uniontown, Jackson County, Indiana, USA
Death: 13 Feb 1931 (aged 77) Athens, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA
Burial: Burr Oak Cemetery, Athens, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA
Memorial #: 44446764
Bio:
Obituary:
"William Wesley Swartz, a resident of this community most of the time since he was 9 years old, passed away at his home in the village, (Athens) last Friday, February 13, 1931 following an illness of only three days. He fell on the ice in his yard last Wednesday and was helped into the house. It was thought that his hip was broken which proved not to be the case, but in the afternoon he was stricken with an apoplectic stroke which terminated in his death at 10 o'clock Friday night.William Wesley Swartz, second son of George and Susan Swartz, was born in Uniontown (now called Waterloo), Indiana on 27 August 1853 and departed this life on 13 February 1931 at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 17 days.
When but a small boy, he came to Lockport, MI which is now part of Three Rivers. In the fall of 1862, his parents purchased the Royal Taylor farm which is now the home of Frank Swartz (now owned by Rex Crotser). In this vicinity he spent his boyhood days attending school at the Culp School; later in a log schoolhouse on the Darius Taylor farm and also at Factoryville.
On August 9, 1877, he was united in marriage to Amelia Alice Phillips of Nottawa Prairie. To this union were born six children: Iva, 1880; Bernard, 1882; Pearlie, 1884 who died as a two year old; Ethel, 1889; Georgie, 1891; and Myrtle, 1898.
In the year of 1878 during the gold rush in the Black Hills, they drove a covered wagon to Salina, Kansas taking up homestead there and living in a dugout or sod house for three years. In the spring of 1883, they returned to Michigan, leaving her brother, Frank Phillips and family who had gone with them, still living in Kansas and never returned to live there. They established their home west of Athens and in 1902, Will built the new house attached to a part of the old house which is now the kitchen. In this house they lived patiently and happily converting the rockstrewn forest, unbroken, into a well tilled and pleasant country home. On July 29, 1924, Mrs. Swartz passed on to the home beyond the veil of tears. About a year later, Mr. Swartz sold his old homestead and purchased a home in Athens where he lived until he died."
