13397. Dexter Sibley Carpenter

E-MAIL: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 From: "Evelyn"
(Partial)
I really want to connect on with our Dexter Carpenter b. 1837 (we think N.Y.-but no proof).  He must
have been connected to the MA group.  I have hit a brick wall, and just don't know where to look.  We
know he died in Toronto, Canada and had a Carpenter Cigar Business there.  (see below)
...  Thank you so very much.  Cheers!  Evelyn

DEATH OF "ARTIE" COMSTOCK – Artemus J. Comstock, know to nearly everybody in Portland as Artie Comstock, who died Monday, was the only son of the late C. B. Comstock, a pioneer of '52. He was born near Portland and brought up here. For several years he was bookkeeper for Corbett, Failing & Co., whose service he left to engage in the carriage business, which he conducted successfully. He consolidated his concern with the United Carriage Company, and became it superintendent. His death resulted from complications following four successive attacks of grip. He was married to Miss Horne, but leaves no children. Mr. Comstock was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Native Sons and Elks, and was very popular with all who knew him. Four sisters survive him – Mrs. A. D. Charlton, Mrs. T. B. Howes, Mrs. C. M. Young, of Eugene, and Mrs. J. M. Berry, of Louisville, Ky., all of whom are now in the city. The funeral will take place at 1 P.M. today from the residence of A. D. Charlton, 795 Irving street, corner Twenty-fourth, and services will be conducted by Rev. Edgar P. Hill. Interment in Riverview.
