Cleaning up some old unsorted files, I found two New England lines in the South, one placed, one not:
Ora Carpenter, born c1818 in VT -- ABC #5507 (p. 567), son of Chester (#3298) and Hannah (Kendall) Carpenter [ABC]. Ora Carpenter married on 23 Feb 1844 to Antonia H. Masters (born c1826 in FL). They resided in Orange Co. FL in 1850 and Volusia Co. FL in 1860 and 1870.

Resided in Charleston, VT Charles Carpenter represented the
town of Charleston in the legislature of Vermont in 1872 and the
county of Orleans in the senate in 1876, served as deacon of the
Congregational church seven years and has held nearly all of the
town offices. Charles's father, Chester Carpenter's 2d wife,
Betsey Hinman was the daughter-in-law of Hon. Timothy Hinman the
first settler of Derby; Phebe S. and Betsey N. were his

Age 95 years, 6 months and 27 days. Proper name was Angene Eleanor Carpenter. Eleanor, granddaughter of Jonathan Carpenter, inherited his diary from her father, George. Married to Hon. Nelson Boyden, teacher, lawyer and long-time town clerk, she died in 1937 at age 95. The Jonathan Carpenter journal passed to her only living offspring, Charles Irving Boyden.

Nelson Luther Boyden
Luther Boyden, Nelson's father, died Dec. 23, 1842, aged 43
years, and Hannah, his wife, died April 11, 1880, aged 84 years.
Nelson lived with his mother, and as soon as he was old enough
he cultivated a small piece of land that his mother possessed,
and worked out some. His education was obtained at district and
select schools; he also attended the Royalton academy and
Orange County Grammar school at Randolph. He taught twelve
terms of district schools, and also taught in Orange County
Grammar school and Royalton academy. He was superintendent of
schools in Barnard from 1858 to 1865, and in Randolph from 1855
for many years, and has always been closely identified with
educational interests. He held the office of trustee of
Randolph State Normal school since 1872, and was president of
the board since 1883, and when the fire occurred, Sept.15, I893,
that destroyed the Normal school building he was unanimously
made chairman of the committee to rebuild and to plan and
construct the building, and through his energy and zeal a fine
building was constructed ready for occupancy Feb 1, 1894. He
came to Randolph in 1861, but retained his home in Barnard until
1865. He read law 'with the Hon. Philander Perrin at Randolph,
and was admitted to Orange county bar, in June, [865, he
remained in this office until 1868, when he opened an office at
Randolph Center, Vt, and has always had a good and successful
practice. He identified himself with the Republican party, by
casting his first vote for Abraham Lincoln. He held the office
of town clerk of Randolph for 25 years, from 1868 to 1893, when
the office was removed to West Randolph. He was town auditor for
several years, and held other town offices. He served as state's
attorney for Orange county four years, as senator from Orange
county In the Vermont legislature two years 1882 and 1883. He
served on the committee of judiciary and chairman of committee
on education, and a member of the special committee on the
reform school. He served as town representative from Randolph in
the Vermont legislature in 1888 and 1889, and served as chairman
of committee on railroads and Grand Isle Bridge, also a member
of the judiciary committee and took a prominent part in debate
on all important measures. He owns a large farm and is
extensively engaged in raising fine thoroughbred Jersey cattle
and blooded horses.

HON. NELSON LUTHER BOYDEN, the only child of Luther and Hannah (Goff) Boyden. was born in Barnard. Windsor County, Vt., July 19, 1836. The father died in 1842, leaving his wife and young Nelson with no property. As the years rolled on, Nelson became convinced that, to make anything of life, he must have as much education as could be obtained. He attended the district schools of his native town, and in time entered Royalton Academy. Here he supported himself and paid his tuition by teaching, and remained until he was fitted for college, but he was denied the advantage of a college course through lack of means. All his education to that point was obtained by his unaided efforts.
In Februarv, 1861, he removed to Randolph, where he taught in the Orange County Grammar School, as he had before done in Royalton Academy. He continued his teaching in Randolph a part of the time for two years.
In the summer of 1861 he entered the office of Hon. Philander Perrin, as a student, and prosecuted his studies in connection with teaching until the June Term, 1865, of Orange County Court, when he was admitted to the Bar. His whole professional life has been spent in Randolph, where he has practiced the law since his admission
Mr. Boyden has been, from early life, deeply interested in educational matters. He was Superintendent of Schools in Barnard, and again in Randolph from 1858 to 1872. When the old Orange County Grammar School became a State Normal School, Mr. Boyden was a moving spirit in the change
He was made one of the Board of Trustees, which position he has since held continuously, and he has also been and is President of the Board. September 15, 1893, the Normal School building was burned, with the greater part of its contents. The school was at once opened in the old Town House, which had been granted the school by the town, but hardly had work begun when this building also burned, (September 26), with what remained of the school property. Mr. Boyden immediately went to work for the school. He obtained a settlement with the Insurance Companies, and secured the money from them. On the day of the burning of the Town Hall, the rebuilding of the present school building was begun under Mr. Boyden's superintendence, and completed so that the school was opened the first week of February. He gave his whole time to the work; nothing escaped his careful eye, and the result is a monument to his diligence. The school building, built by his efforts, is second to none in the State, and to Mr. Boyden the Normal School owes a debt it can never repay.
Mr. Boyden was Town Clerk of Randolph for twenty-five years. In 1882 he represented Orange County in the Senate, and in 1888-89, he represented Randolph in the General Assembly, and was Chairman of the Committee on Railroads, as well as a member of the Judiciary Committee. For some years he has lived on a farm, and has or had one of the finest herds of Jersey thoroughbreds in the State.
Mr. Boyden married Miss Eleanor Augene Carpenter. There were born to him five children, two of whom, Charles Irving and Florence Louise, survive.
