Subject: Misread SurnameGood Morning,
I’m very grateful for the amount of work you’ve done with this Carpenter page. I’ve noticed a slight error with one of the surnames. Evidentally I’m directly related to the Rehoboth Carpenters through my mom’s mom, Florence Carpenter. Her grandfather was Daniel Carpenter. Your resource indicates he married Elizabeth Grant. In fact her name was Elizabeth Grout (1818-1897). The Church of Latter Day Saints made the same error and baptized her for the dead as related to one of their founders.
Years ago, on a visit to my aunt (mom’s sister), my sister reviewed this surname with her who said that “Grant” didn’t sound right and produced an embroidery item which was signed “Elizabeth Grout”.
I also have included a marriage record which verifies her surname below.

Darlington- Funeral services for Mrs. Elmer Goodmiller, 72, Stockton, Ill., who died Saturday at the home of her sister, Cora Carpenter, Darlington, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Carpenter residence.
The Rev. E.J. Jeffrey pastor of the Darlington Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery.
The former Bessie Carpenter, Mrs. Goodmiller was born in Darlington, and was married to Elmer Goodmiller in 1904.
Surviving besides her sister, Miss Carpenter, are her husband; and a brother, Charles Carpenter, Darlington.
