John,
The Susquehanna Co. PA Carpenters are all, so far, descended from the
New England family you are researching, so I may be able to add to that
branch of your CD database as we go along here.
Do you have a Harry C. Carpenter, born ca. 1876, wife Lillian and
daughter Beulah M., in Susquehanna Co. PA around the 1905-1915
timeframe, who later removed to Endicott, Broome Co., NY? Mary Hafler
has helped me in the search for Donald Marshall Carpenter's parents, and
I am trying to return the favor. If you can help her with data from
your database, I would be most grateful. Her e-mail address is
if you wish to reply to her also.
Thank you! Terry

My search found my husband's mother and grandparents to confirm what little
information we know. Harry C. Carpenter, wife Lillian and daughter Beulah M.
who later removed to Endicott, Broome, NY and are buried there. I did not
find your Douglas Marshall Carpenter named in the listing and he would have
been about 16 at that time.
If you have any other first names and do not find the website, let me know as
I did take notes. My son and I hope to visit that area sometime to check on
records. I think Montrose is the county seat. Hopbottom really is just a
hamlet these days. Thanks for offer of sharing but am not ready unless you
have a Harry C., probably born around 1876 and running hotel 1905-1915 time
period. Good luck in your search, Mary in Saratoga.

NOTE:
Some descendants updated by marquecarpenter@yahoo.com - Marque Carpenter - As of 2012, he is now deceased.
His Y-DNA tested to be part of Group 18 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project. It appears that Group 18 may have had a NPE - non-paternal event where a step-son became a Carpenter.
NEED:
We need another biological male Carpenter descendant of Barber Carpenter to Y-DNA test that is not part of the Group 18 NPE lineages.
DONE:
In May 2024 the results of a nother Barber C-98392 was done and that test matched the Group 3 genetic profile.NAME:
Barber was probably named after one of the Barber family members in Delhi. While it is possible that his mother may have had her maiden name as Barber, this is not proven.
One Ancestry.com family tree give Bethia as mother (b. 1756 MA) - but no proof.BIRTH: 1877 - but which month?
Submitted birth is: 31 Mar 1777 in Delhi, Delaware, NY - but no documentation.
Find A Grave has birth as: 30 Sep 1777 MA - but fails to say where this came from.
Per the Grave marker, no birth date! HOWEVER, it cites age at death as:
Aged 77 years, 2 months and 17 days. This works out to be born about 2 Nov 1777.
AT THIS TIME - I lean towards the birth with documentation - the grave marker age at death.CHILDREN:
Two families given, but only one spouse. Second family is suspicious and should be viewed as such.TAX: 1799

No children for them listed on Census.CHILDREN:
Use CAUTION on children given for this marriage. All dates are estimates with no real data to compare to.
This "family" came from an old Ancestral File record, but we have lost the details of such.
There may have been children from a previous marriage or they could be fictious. We just do not know.
One person suggested that there may be a few similar names with grandchildren.
That person also suggested that "Ellen" may be "Eleanor" just mis-heard.

Also, you will notice that there is 2 spellings for my line of
Carpenters. This is NOT a mistake. Apparently, one line spells
it "Carpender". David Daniel Carpenter's descendants spells
it with the "D", however, his tombstone reflects the "T".

BIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW
9th Section - pages 402 - 450 ----- NOTE: A child named Emily married William Carpenter.R. H. PALMER is a gentleman well known in the business, social, and political circles of Deposit, which is the place of his residence. His acquaintance and reputation extend far beyond his home; for since 1888 he has held the responsible position of State Dairy Expert -- an office requiring more than ordinary knowledge andÔcream, butter, lard, oleo oils, stearine, oleomargarine and butterine, and vinegar. There are but few men capable of performing the duties assigned to this position, and among these few Mr. Palmer stands in the front rank. In his work he travels over eleven counties in South-eastern New York. He is greatly interested in the work; and the people of his part of the State of New York are well protected from "bogus food," foreign mixtures, chemical preparations, and deceitful and alluring imitations.
R.H. Palmer was born in Deposit, September 24, 1840. His father is Fletcher Palmer, the "Squire," a lawyer of ability, who has already spent eighty-three years on this earth. His mother, whose name before marriage was Nancy Peters, was a native of Philadelphia. She died at the age of forty-four years, leaving six children, all of whom are living, namely: R.H., the inspector; Arthur T., who is the Assistant Superintendent of the Union Pacific Railroad, and lives at Kansas City, Mo.; James K. Polk, a passenger conductor on the Erie line, with headquarters at Susquehanna; Smith, the station agent of the Erie Railroad at Hawley, Pa.; John P., a locomotive engineer, with residence at Deposit; Emily, the wife of William Carpenter, a locomotive engineer of the Erie Railroad, living at Binghamton. The father was married a second time, from which union was one daughter, Jessie, who is attending the union school of Deposit.

List of Qualified Jurors - 1798-1800
Delaware County New YorkCopy provided by the Delaware County Clerk's Office, Delhi, NY
Electronic Text prepared by Gary Wyckoff Myers
After Delaware County was erected in 1797, from parts of the Counties of Ulster and Otsego, a separate Court System had to be established for it. Jurors, qualified to serve in those courts, were selected from Lists prepared by the Supervisor and Assessors of each respective Town in the County. These Lists were forwarded to the County Clerk and Jury panels were selected from them.Juror Lists were made up of white male U.S. citizens, who were 21 years old but not 60, and who owned (or in Delaware County could also be on land held under lease) of a set value above any mortgage, or other lien thereon. The Juror had to be a resident of the Town for which he was selected a Juror. Jurors became "Incompetent due to incompetency, death, criminality or moving from the Town.
The List that follows, is for the period before and for the period of 1798 through 1800, which was the first Federal Census after the erection of Delaware County. Many Lists from which this was compiled are missing and some Towns included area which later became separate Towns. At the end of this first list is a listing of the Town Officials.
