town of Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.

1338. Benjamin Carpenter

Number 745 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 134.
Family on page 251 (# 272).  Children probably from second marriage.

The CM has his birth in 1737 and marriage number two to Sarah Powers on June 8,
1738.  This is probably should read 1758.  His child, Susannah was listed as
born as Feb. 29, 1739, and this should probably read 1759.  Susannah married
Abel Benjamin March 22, 1759.  This is incorrect also and the marriage
should be thrown out.  See number 746 on page 134 for Susannah who married
Abel Benjamin.  A Benjamin is hand written in as a second child with something
about Cayuga and a date that looks like 1759.

He resided in Harwick.  Benjamin Carpenter enlisted as private in Capt.
William White's Company, Col. Brown's Regiment dated July 18, 1780 and served
10 days in Berkshire County Regiment, serving at New York.  Benjamin
Carpenter's name appears on a receipt dated Aug. 4, 1780 for $1800 bounty (yes,
I know but that is the way it is written in the CM) signed to Capt. William
Douglas for three months service for town of Hardwick.

Sarah Powers

DEATH: Death year uncertain.  Died after the 1830 Census and before the 1835 State Census.

MARRIAGE:  IGI has a 8 Jun 1738 date for Sarah Powers marrying Nathan Carpenter in Hardwick.
This is wrong. She married Benjamin Carpenter, the son of Nathan on 8 Jun 1758 in Harwick.  No proof that she later married the brother named Nathan (son of Nathan).

3454. Susannah Carpenter

Number 1827 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 251.

Listed as born on Feb. 29, 1739, and this should probably read 1759.
However 29 Feb is not a valid date for 1739 nor 1759.
Per the CM, Susannah married Abel Benjamin March 22, 1759.
This is incorrect also and the marriage should be thorwn out.
See number 746 on page 134 for Susannah who married Abel Benjamin.

1339. Susannah Carpenter

Phillip Washburn

NAME: Phillip or Philip.
Jim St. John of Bremerton, WA in a letter dated 10 Oct. 1998 cites the book
"The Washburne Family in America" Second Edition 1997.  This book gives a good
chronicle of the Washburne family from William Washburn (1686-1756).

No family listed.
MARRIAGE: Check conflict in marriage date verses birth date!

Hi John,
Attached is a gedcom file of my Carpenter ancestors that I would be very
pleased to have it included in your Carpenter project. I would also like very
much to get a copy of your completed work.
My sources for this material are personal family records and pictures, my
Grandmother was Rena Carpenter, "The History of Surry, NH", which has many
more Carpenters than I listed here along with their personal histories and
photographs of many of them. Also, "The American Genealogist" - The Family of
William Carpenter of Rehobeth, Massachusetts, "The History of Keene" by S.G.

If it is not to late and if your CD will include pictures, I recently
received a scanner and CD writer for Christmas and I can scan and send
Carpenter pictures to you.
Thank you very much, Merrill A. Dana (mdana1948@aol.com)

Number 758 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 135.
His family is on page 253 (# 274).  A farmer.  He removed from Rehoboth to
