Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lequille, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada
Memorial #: 234708235
Bio:
Annapolis Spectator, Wednesday, June 7, 1972
On Friday morning the Town of Annapolis Royal was saddened by the news of the death of "Aunt Joe" as she was lovingly known by her host of friends, young and old. Born Miss Georgie Duncan Carpenter, daughter of the late James T and Elizabeth (Ritchie) Carpenter of Saint John, NB, she had lived the past 33 years in Annapolis Royal, first with her sister, Jennie, the late Mrs AW Banks and Mr Banks and lately with her niece, Mrs WD Wetmore and Mr Wetmore, in the old Banks House on Saint George Street. During WWII, she was an efficient clerk in the firm of AW Banks Hardware, in town, and her smile and ready wit made her beloved by all who knew her. She was a devoted member of the United Church, and a tireless knitter for the Canadian Red Cross, she had countless hundreds of pairs of socks to her credit. She leaves 1 sister, Miss Elva Carpenter of Boston, Mass. She was predeceased by brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral was from the United Church, Annapolis Royal, Sunday, Reverend MG Butler officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
